Herald of Ventari

Some people say Revenant is countered by Thief.
Some people say Thief is countered by Revenant.
Some people say it is 50/50 at equal skill level.
Some people say Revenant needs buff.
Some people say Thief needs buff.
Which class counters which class?
Which class needs buff?
What do you think and for what reasons?
Can’t say about thieves needing buff specially right now but on Revs needing buffs I’m quite certain that none are being requested for shiro/glint.
Rev requests are focused on making bad legends, traits and weapons usable and reworks on specific weapons/skills to make them less binary.
On Rev vs Thief it depends on the circumstances and builds.

Depends on many factors. Build, environment, skill. In general i would consider;
2 mediocre players – rev hardcounter thief here for both power and condi build. Rev is easier to play than thief at low level
2 average players – thief hardcounter condi rev, power softcounter thief
2 high players -forget about condi rev, that potato cannot do a kitten, power is getting softcountered
If thief know what hes doing he has upper hand in general. Reasons for it is overpowered steal ability that not only slows you for 4 seconds and crit for 4k! but also can be used 2x in a row. Thats 50% slow uptime which cripple rev hard.
Second reason is thief being too slippery with dash dodge to us since they added 5cd to PT, they cover large distance and clear chill, they can effectively poke and run avoiding our key skills which is sword 2,3, surge, i wont even mention jade winds here.
Our situational healing abilities. This is where thief has upper hand and can exploit our weakness hard like nobody else -main reason why i consider them softcounter. They can easily vanish and kite you as you pop ED preventing you from gaining any healing as you simply wont proc many if any of them. They have easy time to bait out Glint heal due to their poke n run playstyle rendering it useless unless he will do a mistake a serious mistake.
In general dagger/pistol is the most dangerous one to us, s/d is in middle ground (wouldnt consider dangerous) and staff is cakewalk.
If ED (something im pushing hard) was more frontloaded, PT got it cd removed and their f1 op ability nerfed (is it dmg or utility skill? decide guys, it cannot be strong at both) then rev would kitten on thief

if the rev is not using shiro/glint thief will win 100% of the time.
you need glint reveal to uncloak the thief and shiro phase shift to stay on their tail.
and you need hammer to keep the pressure on them as they like to create a distance from you to heal and recover from cool downs
a pro thief vs a pro rev, thief is most likley going to win as they can control the fight with stealth. e.g they will always make the 1st strike not you.
I’d say that in a 1v1, and even more against a thief, staff is not only better than hammer as it is crucial to win.
Speaking 1v1 only.
Good thief counters revenant just the same as they do necros, and this is because of his ability to only attack you with the right things at the right times. For example, dazing repeatedly when you swap to mallyx, immob you as soon as you in glint (no clears at all in this hero).. The second highest reasoning is the fact that as a Rev most of your attacks are super slow, something a Thief can take major advantage of with all their evades and faster attack. For example during hammer 3/5 a thief can not only easily dodge that in time but also hit you with several attacks during your animation.
In a group setting Rev wins out because of the sustain offered by body blocking and team heals while a thief will just get aoe’d to death.

Any decent thief is going to range your staff swap, and/or jump in and out if they aren’t using any ranged. Against lesser skilled thief, staff is amazing especially #5 which can potentially 1 shot them.
I can deal with shiro sword/sheild but it’s when they enter hammer, 3-4k aa sometimes so I cant even range them back with shortbow (stealthless s/d thief) I guess that’s just my issue for playing a harder weapon set. If I can open up with a good burst then I can normally win.

Every single attack on the hammer is slow and very telegraphed, you could dodge twice during the auto animation lol..
My advice to you after being wrecked by good thieves, and taking out others with my auto attacks (lol) is this- Take it slow and methodical, when on my thief I play against rev same as necro- slow, methodical, watch every animation, only engage at the right times with the right tools. You actually have the right set for the job (s/d), don’t try to range fight rev with hammer anyways, the game against hammer is avoid avoid avoid- burst with interupt during #5 since its extremely slow.
Thief v Rev relies solely on only one aspect in that fight.
How good the revenant player is.
That’s it. If you are good on rev you will kill thieves by the scores with impunity b/c revenants have the necessary tools to do so. So IMHO revs counter thieves due to the matchup not mattering how good the thief is but only how good the rev is.
Now my PoV is using meta builds in PvP.
thief can kill rev with certain chance, but again, instead of fighting the old thiefvsthief style fight, rev can just completely ignore thief whos chasing him and go for the team fights, where thief will get melt by all the aoes
