Pretty much like a Thief (+1, but less about decapping), but you have fair chances in most 1v1s.

Thieves are more mobile and decap or quickly gank enemies. While Revenants also have a lot of ganking power like Thief, they lack mobility for decapping and out rotating. They are similar but also different.

What seems better in PvP? I’m torn between them both. They both seem really great. Some classes I get utterly ruined by on my Thief (DH/Engi) I can just chew through on my Rev, whereas classes I can ruin with my Thief (Necro/Mes) I just get trampled over on my Rev.

I like that Revs have a lot of teamfight potential and sustain, whereas with Thief, it seems like you’re just not supposed to be in any kind of fight for more than a few seconds, which gets boring.

I have been playing mostly Thief for ranked, though I’ve primarily played Revenant for PvP and WvW since HoT release.

IMO, Thief cannot really stay in a fight without stealth. I often have to either stealth or flee (temporarily) to recover health and return to a fight, which makes Thief bad for holding points or 1v1s against classes that can outsustain the thief (e.g. Scrapper, good Necros). That said, Thief has unparalleled mobility, even compared to Rev.

Revenant has much better sustain and seems to be able to do as much damage as Thief. Revenant’s attacks are a little more straight-forward (e.g. easier for opponents to avoid), but Rev is also much better at AoE damage against multiple targets.

Overall I think Rev is probably more useful in ranked, but right now I’m having more fun on Thief.

You do most of the same things on Revenant that you would do on a Thief, you’re just better at fighting and slower to break off and decap. You still want to rotate around and +1 fights for the most part, while better point defenders hold down the fort for you to rotate around. When both teams have strong team compositions, that’s what you’re going to try to do.

The caveat to this is if the other team has a Thief. As long as there isn’t a huge skill gap you can just follow the Thief around all match, making it useless and killing it over and over. Basically, if you both try and do the same thing, splitting off to decap, they’ll create a bigger advantage because they can cover open ground faster. However, if you follow the Thief around you’ll be able to match their movement with Phase Traversal, neutralizing any advantages they try to create with movement and maintaining an advantageous match-up for you wherever you go.

In short – if there’s a Thief, ruin its day; otherwise, play like a Thief.

I use mine as a +1 between Home and Mid… I always enter the initial mid fight behind allies then target the weaker classes like Thief, Mes, Ranger or Warrior… (mine is marauder S/A build though)

It’s a really fun class, play it the way you enjoy it as it does have a lot of viable options regardless of the situation, especially boon stacking.

I mostly play for the new Free-For-All arena in PvP lobby.

If you run Mallyx you will not play it much like a thief at all, Mallyx+Dwarf turns you into more of a brawler by my experience.
