I play a lot of Thief where this question feels more obvious:
Evading/interrupting/blinding critical moves, landing backstabs, being clever with stolen skills, stealth juking, managing initiative, and of course contributing in a TF without getting gibbed (where I struggle.)

What makes a great Revenant?
Do you find the tactical skill-ceiling high enough or is it mostly strategy (build/pre-fight commit)?

I thought Rev would feel similar to Thief, but I found it heavily rotation based & less reactive.

Edit: I’m not asking what makes Revenant great or why you enjoy it. What separates a good Revenant from a great one?

Not doing solo roaming is the best thing I would recomend. Because we are tougher and have more sustain than thiefs Anet decided it would be best to limit our mobility to axe 4,staff 5 and some very expensive sh@ite called phase travel.

Revenant also has a projectile block that can be spamed like crazy so the mesmers can focus on portal shenanigans (wvw). Condi is Revenant’s weakest point due to the absence of a ranged condi weapon.

Revenant feels like he was made the jack of all trades…a tanky jack of all trades….they just didn’t nail the class for me,I just play it because I like rev staff animations more than thief staff animations.

Revent has more mobility option than you think.

- about fact + Riposting Shadows is good at running away while clearing soft cc
- Impossible Odds speed you up as well
- if you run Mel you also have Unyielding Anguish, a range 600 leap
- also activate Pain Absorption so you are not soft cced.

Revenant is definitely better at chasing people down than running away. But then most classes are not good at running away except stealth classes. Even s+gs warrior can be soft cced and chased down by mobs.

Most of the same some stuff you said about thief applies to rev. Trow in energy management. But really its same for all classes the great player lands his moves and avoids the enemy moves like all classes.

i think what makes a good rev is the ability to land ALL his skills and being in fact always on the offensive even when some crucial skills are on cd. The synergy between offensive skills and micromanagment of boons with facet.
Difference with thief? Thief is a class able to kite and able to decide when to attack, revenant as i said has to attack always. Even their herald healing has to be used in a offensive way XD. Thief can spam the same attack more, cuz no cds managment, so this makes thief more “free” and not forced in a rotation. Aniway, revenant is much more dependent on boons, wich means his face skills have to be micromanaged a lot.

Timing of your glint skills. Everybody can spam shiro and do something-ish. But glint skills are the important part for me. Both timing and activating/using the skill, which I don’t do really well.
