So we’ve had a chance to play with the elite spec and to play around with different legend and trait combos. At this point, other than tweaks I assume that the class is mostly complete? There’s been some threads made with similar topics in the past, but I’d like to get a fresh perspective now we have some new things to discuss.
I’ve enjoyed my time playing the revenant, and I intend to make one and play it for a while when hot launches.
But the whole time in the back of my head while playing, I’ve been thinking to myself:
What does this class bring to my group comp? How will playing this class make things easier or smoother when I’m running (existing, known, comparable) content with buddies?
I’ve been trying to think of situations where I would want a revenant instead of someone else, and so far I haven’t come up with anything concrete. The only thing I can think of right now that sets them apart is Glint’s ability to stack long duration boons (especially protection) out of combat, something other classes can’t do as well by themselves right now.
What does the revenant have in it’s toolbox that makes it worth bringing over the current “apex choices” as it were, for example:
-Instead of an ele for DPS
-Instead of a guard for AoE proj reflects/absorbtion/stability
-Instead of classes that can stack damage or other boons easily, without energy management woes
-Instead of a thief (or engie) for lowish cooldown aoe blinds
The way I see it, if I’m playing a revenant, I can:
-Drop a Jalis stability field with long windup (that only grants 1 stack of stability, and will be ineffective against many mobs, particularly CC spamming champs or groups of hard CC mobs in pve, and which now has a cooldown long enough that it will leave a stability gap without someone else to provide it)
-OR drop a projectile reflect shield with Ventari, with a bunch of other skills that seem mostly useless
-OR stack up boons with Glint.
1. I can’t do any of these things at the same time
2. I can only pick two of these things to do on their own at any one time
3. While I’m doing these things my energy is generally being depleted quickly enough that it’s not worth trying to use any skills other than the autoattack, because when I run out of energy I can’t do the thing my group needs me to do anymore, and…
4.The autoattack damage doesn’t feel strong enough on any of the weapon sets to justify this arrangement
In summary, right now I feel that the revenant has some cool tools, but the tools are too spread out and too inaccessible in comparison to existing bread and butter classes. It doesn’t help that many of the trait lines still feel rather lack luster and non-synergetic, but I am happy to leave that to another discussion.
What do you all think of the revenant as it stands right now? I really want to hear your honest and direct opinions on the matter as it’s been on my mind for a while.
