I’ve seen a lot of threads and even complaints in game about unrelenting assault being OP, really it’s summed up in players not being used to revenant animations, builds and playstyle yet. Not knowing how to telltale animations often times it’s a problem of skill, remember when hambow was FotM because it was OP? all it required was counterplay and that was learning how to doge pin-down, backbreaker and earthshaker and the same could be said for any warrior build using those skills. Only some weeks after release will we know if the skill truly is overpowered or not.

Now for those having trouble countering UA here are some tips:

1) the animation has the revenant jump and backflip counterclockwise when activating the skill
2) the animation has a different sound from all the other sword skills, similar to the sound Lieutenant Kholer/Guild Lords in SH make when using the spinning attack.
3) a single well timed blind can cancel the skill and put it in CD
4) you can daze, stun, knockdown, knockback or fear the revenant when the skill is activating
5) the skill hits 7 times, if you double dodge you avoid 5 out of the 7 hits
6) gear shield in engi avoids all the damage if activated in the right time, same with elixir s
7) stealthing after the first hit cancels the skill and puts it in CD
8) blinding after the first hit cancels the skill and puts it in CD
9) often times the revenant will use phase traversal beforehand or combo it with other skills leaving him a bit short on energy, using conditions or heavy damage when you see a ton of boons or might increase in the revenant means a burst is incoming you have to prepare for UA
10) if anything else fails you can counterpressure after the 6th hit, if you time your burst just after the 7th hit the revenant will probably have to disengage, use crystal hybernation or even die
11) rampage works great around after the 3rd-4th hit, you can tank the damage and also you can down the revenant if you knock it down after the skill ends.

All of those are options people have used effectively against me and stuff I’ve kept in mind when fighting other revenants, it’s a matter of skill and knowing what your opponent might do, hope this helps out those having trouble against UA

This is very true. Every class has a way to deal with this skill. And honestly the revenant has more scarier things up his sleeve then UA

The most scary weapon revenant has is staff, and really I will never stop saying it, it’s a truly masterpiece in regards of skill balance, it has everything on it, counterpressure, soft CC, healing, blast finisher and a block. If you get quickness autoattack it’s all you need to get slightly lower than Sword DPS. Sword is just strong because of the autoattack, UA is really used to annoy, most of my kills come from autoattacks really, if UA gets nerfed you still can dish out a ton of damage out of both mace and staff, you just compensate with burn and might spam at the cost of soft cc and an evade, what would really hurt Sword would be losing the evade, even if UA lost damage.

The biggest problem with UA is that there’s another skilled which is also UA on the same class! Unyielding anguish and Unrelenting assault!

But no seriously it’s not hard to beat a sword Revenant. They have very bad condition removal without ventari and are essentially designed to “endure them” with mallyx.

If you are fighting one and they are shiro/glint it shouldn’t be too difficult condi them to death.

Direct ways to stop sword 3

  • Guardian lines and circles
  • Ele staff Lines
  • Go stealth it ends immediately
  • Blind them
  • Interrupt the cast, Instead of taking the time to write up it’s OP posts go role a Revenant beta toon of each race and see what their wind up animation for sword 3 is save yourself the learning curve early on.
  • Necro fear wall
  • Several block skills
  • Stand next to a wall or other terrain which will end the skill
  • Ranger Pet taunt goes through evades have your pet taunt it.
  • Do not slow them the animation lasts twice as long.
  • Binding blade them ahead of time pull them out of it during the animation.
  • Stay 500 range or further away from the Revenant if they have axe look for the throw to avoid it. If they have Shiro it will be a phase into sword 3.
  • If you’re used to running away in WvW, expect to be chased down by a Rev using Phase sword 3 combos. Augment your build to actually be able to win a fight instead of running away.
  • Portal will not save you from it as mesmer but it will let you drag the Revenant out of the fight.
I may be harsh but i care deeply about the game.
