Actually what I’m proposing is a slight change to the way Unrelenting Assault works. Instead of having it bounce around between multiple random targets, let it focus on one target, speed up the animation for the skill, and split the damage from the skill in half between first 4 hits and the last strike. The last strike will deliver a big final aoe blow in a radius of about 600 to the target.

This will do 2 things.
-The amount of damage of the skill will remain the same but the fact that you can get the damage off faster will mean a DPS increase. No longer will casting Unrelenting Assault on a boss be a DPS loss but rather a quick burst before you continue auto attacking.

-The fact that the last hit will be the biggest AND an AOE will give Revenant some much needed damage in group fights while still allowing you to properly focus your target. It shouldn’t be gamebreaking since there will be counterplay to it as each strike will be delivered faster, meaning your target can avoid more damage if they time their dodge right and even dodge in a direction away from their team to keep them from taking the final hit. However, if you managed to bait out the target’s dodges or they don’t react in time, you could get off a nice burst on them therefore rewarding you for their mistake or your smart plays.

Now I’m not sure how much more viable this could make Revenant in Raids but I think it is definitely an improvement and not an overly complicated change to make. From the time you first press 3 to the time the skill is completely done, it takes about 2 1/4 seconds to completely deliver the damage. That is REALLY long. Even Vault on Daredevil which is a spammable Evade+High Damage AOE skill only takes about 1 1/4 second from the first key input to deliver its damage. Considering Unrelenting Assault is on a 12 second cooldown now, I think increasing the speed in which we can deliver its damage seems pretty reasonable.

What do you guys think?

TL;DR

Reduce the amount of time it takes for Unrelenting Assault to deliver its damage so we can increase our DPS and let it only focus on one target but with half the damage delivered in the first 4 hits and the other half on the last strike.

Actually sounds really good. But I doubt anet manages to fix UA in that way, that it sticks to your target rather than just attacking random imaginary people/walls/stones/plush animals.

I don’t think it would be too hard of a fix to have it focus on one target. The real challenge for them I think would be fixing the bug where if an enemy is near a ledge or wall, Unrelenting Assault just doesn’t work at all.

I have hope that someday Revenant will be in an acceptable state though. I really hope they read this thread too as I really believe a change like this would vastly improve Sword on Revenant.

When casting sword3, the character itself should get stuck on the enemy player but being invisible. Then theres a hologram of your character doing the attack. The invisible playerhugging is the evade-attack, and gets interrupted against shocking aura and crossing WvW-portals etc. like it is now BUT is restricted to your target! This way you would prevent the issue of attacking walls, random stuff and will not be canceled anymore if the player is close to an obstacle.
