I know there was a thread asking specifically what race you were going to be playing, but mines not really related to that, more so, i have a question, or rather, I’m looking for some impressions to help sway my opinion.

I’m currently on the fence between Sylvari and Charr (Yes, Rytlock Fanboy here) and I’m unable to decide between the two, as I’m constantly hopping back and forth.

The thing leaning me more towards Sylvari is that they’re more pivotal to the story in HoT than the Charr.. but that’s about it, any thoughts to help push my opinion to one side?

If there are a lot of armors that have a lot of metal pieces on them, then I will make a salad. Salads only look good in salad armor or armor that has a lot of metal pieces on it to look cool on salads.

If not then probably a human since charr are still plagued with clipping.

Yeah that’s really one of the big things leaning me more towards Sylvari, the clipping on charr is awful, as is the texture stretching on a lot of armor. :/

I will be a Sylvari, but that is just for personal RP reasons. I feel that any race will work as a revenant as long as YOU believe it does. Ultimately, you should make your own decision based on what feels right to you, not based on your peers.

If Sylvari will be interesting to you for story wise go with that. If you want your Charr to become a bad kitten like Rytlock then go with that.

To be fair Heavy armor is the one of the three that looks the best on charr
Charr also have awesome animations (except for the staff auto, seriously what’s up with that?)
Mistward armor looks sexy on charr

I really want to be a salad though so i hope there is super cool looking heavy armor that doesn’t have much cloth on it. Charr would be nice but I haven’t looked back at charr since release. They get stuck with only race armor sets which really sucks.

Asura. Because small scale makes hammer #2 look even more big and epic.

Charr, as with all of my characters, since my friends and I have all themed our characters as being in a Warband together. :P I need to come up with some way to explain all of the powers away as being something mechanical, though. Iron Legion forever.

i am stuck between Human and Norn. I only have 1 human out of my serious alts(aka non bag space alts)

But i fell in love with my norn warrior.

problem is Norn dont have many options for young smooth male faces. There is only 2 smooth faces. Preferred not to have my Revenant and my Warrior look the same. So this was a blower when I found this out that Norn doesnt have many smooth young faces.

not sure what i should do.

Honestly, I’m not sure either. I ran out of good character ideas when I got to my Guardian and Engi.

At first, i was hellbent on charr, but they were saying sylvari gets more things going for them. so sylvari rev it is.

Honestly there’s lots of good combinations of armor for each race/class/etc. Even humans with like Long Hair run into clipping issues for example. There’s enough armor out there to come up with some acceptable/good looking combination that doesn’t clip.

I’m all about animations.

Human/Sylvari/Norn are pretty much all the same animation wise. Charr have some great animations with the weapons we got. So from the get go I pretty much plan to have a Charr Revenant and a Human Revenant.

Sylvari doesn’t interest me much. Literally every character I have is going to be anti Sylvari

I’m going to be a human female.

Human because of story and I think fits the class a bit better.

Female because I don’t have a heavy armor class of human female Going to mix it up with Arah armor

Norn Revenant ftw. Norn body and face models tend to be designed better than humans, more detailing at least. Plus heavy armor tends to look better fitted on Norn than human. This goes for both male and female imo.

If norn didnt have stubby legs with gigantic bodies/arms I would have loved to roll a norn when the game started. They look goofy and sound goofy in combat >.> plus a lot of armor is really stretched on on them.

Human Female .. I love the human lore and storyline. Female because I have all male chars atm and I need to switch it up some.

Asura, because I can make a bad joke with the name.

I’m a charr fan and i managed to stick to them with my engi (medium armor on charr ar honestly the worst)
Heavy armor looks super cool on them.

Human/norm while lokking cool are to mainstream to me.
My first main, a thief, was a sylvari and i really enjoy the race.
Asura also are super cool, but the fact they are so tiny cuts much of the fun after a while.

So i’ll make 90% charr and 10% sylvari (if i do not take back my thief ;-) )

Not all the medium armour looks terrible or clips horribly on the Charr.

Well yeah…but mostly. I for myself am pretty satisfied by my engi look

I was adamant on asura, but my inner bookah kicked in and now I’m looking at making a human revenant.

I will make Human Revenant because it has great culti armor.

Charr, full stop; and this would be the 6th. In order of creation so far:
- Guard (coming up on 3 yrs for him – my ‘main’ for all intents now),
- Mesmer & Ranger (these two were made for first NPE testing on PS),
- Necromancer (current NPE testing, & race change from Human Necro),
- And now Elementalist as of yesterday (testing to see how far my wrists can take this class).

I do have an Engi (I never delete first characters, no matter what), who is Sylvari.

All of them have very unique looks and styles. I’m particularly happy with the Necro (Crimson) – her final look was based on a Crimson Cultist from Thaumcraft. I’ve done surprisingly well under the circumstances, though I still need some CM tokens for the preferred leggings.

Medium armor on a charr is tricky, yes, but I’d recommend thumbing through the racial lists first. All characters are now given the T1 racial chest as part of personal story, which is the Drover Coat for medium. Its now made Charr my secondary race to avoid the ‘trenchcoat’ problem, after Sylvari (they need T2/3 racial to avoid it, and only partially).

Ive been back and forth alot. For me its most likely gonna be charr. Or Sylvari. Not really sure yet.

Sylvari, as that’s the race i’ve loved most since release.

Norn. It’s one of my favourite races ever from any fantasy setting (and their close cousins in some of those). They just resonate with me.

Asura, because:

• I love asura’s heavy armor
• They have awesome animations, mainly on hammer
• Because as they are small, all these skills looks even more epic
• Currently I have just 1 asura (have 2 chars of each race, except norn – I hate norns)
• You can sit under the Ventari’s tablet without touching it
• Love male asura voice acting

I will be a fast race

Asuran or Norn. I find the Norn personal story the most interesting but the Asuran race specific skills can be useful.

Just realized that I cannot use my racial abilities as a revenant. Not cool.
