I do strongly believe that Longbow Pyre would be the best choice as both an additional ranged and we could easily put conditions on it for burning and poison/bleed, plus he actually done something major by starting the charr revelution against the flame legion oppresion which is actually more of a legend than most, traps would likely be the utility line but hopefully bring back the ranger “throwing traps” by letting us place them like wells.

Revenants are not tied to Utility types. Pyre might get 1 trap with everything else being something different. Even if he is not of the Flame Legion, Pyre is strongly themed towards fire, his initial Hero skills in GW1 reflecting that.

Ummm. Look at the Legends again and tell us they’re not themed…..

I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say. Yeah they are themed. But what I was referring to is that Revenants are not tied to utility skill types such as meditations or traps or shouts. A revenant legend is more flexible than another ESpec from another class. The utility skills might be a trap, a shout, a survival skill and a signet as elite for example. All themed towards one character.

He was the first sucessful attempt at charr revolution that IS what he’s special for.

What’s special about half of our legends? As I said previously at least three of them done nothing even close to what pyre did.

What did Jalis do? The turning to stone thing was a people based thing not something he done specifically, and Mallyx? A random Demon in a content area based in gw1, by that logic any boss can be a legend.

Ventari? He found a seed. He done nothing else noteworthy other than creating the sylvari ten commandments which anyone could’ve done.

Actions shouldn’t qualify you for a legendary stance, but power and uniqueness.

Jalis was a dwarven king, and had unique dwarven magic. Mallyx was the leader of Abaddon’s forces, and had unique demonic magic. Shiro screwed an entire continent and was one of Abaddon’s generals. Glint was a dragon, and a prophet. Ventari is the only one who wasn’t powerful, but still has some unique centaur and tablet magic.

Pyre was a normal charr, with no superpowes whatsoever. He is not even a magic user. What skills would you give him? Traps? You’re channeling a legend to set up non-magic traps? Or maybe you want to make them magic, and pretty much ruin his character and his crusade against charr magic users.

I’m sorry, but “leading a revolution” doesn’t translate into new cool mechanics and aesthetics in any way. Anything cool you could make around his figure could be applied to the ranger instead, through a “liberator/magehunter” elite specialization or something like that. Not the revenant.

I think we’re focusing a bit too hard on Pyre and lore here, he’s just one Ranger. There could be some other noteworthy ranger that could fill the role, doesn’t have to be him.

I don’t think any character with an established profession which also exists in GW2 should become part of the revenant. So no Gwen, no Rurik, no Lich, etc.

I make an exception if the character is powerful and also has some distinctive magic that could not fit its profession properly, like Shiro with the jade stuff. Still salty it’s named “Legendary Assassin” instead of “Legendary Envoy” though, assassins should be thief material.

There are no other noteworthy rangers. He’s probably the only one that’s ever done anything major to the lore setting. I mean Charr probably wouldn’t be playable without anet setting up his revolution.

The idea of these legends as far as I can tell is to implement people from the past that have done things to change the world, all of the current legends have done this regardless of what I’ve said in my past posts. I feel Pyre as also, I’m not saying that there aren’t other choices, I’m saying that if we ever get a new legend I would very much prefer it to be Pyre who has done something noteworthy and yet is a known fire based archer.

Which I’m sure every revenant will agree we need both a new ranged option AND a condition set, Pyre fits both of these requirements.

At the risk of making Ghotistyx duck again, in the cases of Jalis and Ventari, you’re essentially channeling what they represent rather than the characters themselves.

When you channel Jalis, you’re not channeling a dwarf warrior with a hammer. You’re channeling the Rite of the Great Dwarf or even the Great Dwarf itself.

When you’re channeling Ventari, you’re not channeling Ventari in life, but the philosophy he laid down. It’s not a coincidence that all the Ventari skills revolve around the tablet.

Now, the charr have undergone a sufficient cultural shift that it would be entirely reasonable to have a legend that represents that shift… but I don’t think it would be appropriate for such a legend to just have a set of skills that could just as easily have fit in the ranger (or warrior, or engineer) skill lineup. Instead, I’d expect a set of skills themed around leading a revolution against an army of fire elementalists, or around the charr industrial revolution that followed.

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

You make a very good point you really do but if and I say IF they added pyre as a legend what other skills could he honestly have but things Rangers already have in one form or another?

I need to point attention to the that dragon hunter thread on the ranger forums where some guy is saying that DH should’ve been the ranger elite spec. Rangers already have traps and longbow, warriors already have most of pyres actual default skills. The only stuff left is just other ranger skills from gw1 with new functionality.

That being said Anet have shown that they’re not above using skills from X class on Y. Such as above with warrior longbow skills and reapers having one or two assassin skills.

I’m not saying that everyone is wrong and pyre should be added for my sake alone but he and maybe a few others are the only “legends” that may be worth it due to them having what revenant is missing.

Hmmm Urgoz, whose profession was Ranger, has already been discussed before in this thread. He’s similar to Mallyx (who wasn’t part of the main questline in Nightfall) in that he was the boss at the end of an elite area, Urgoz’s Warren. Whether you find him to be legendary or not is subjective, and his significance is very different from Pyre’s. But I think he’s a viable choice, it appears that all of the creatures in the Echovald Forest being hostile and such is the result of Urgoz’s rage at how the forest was affected by the Jade Wind. Seems pretty kitten to me.

I don’t know if lore-wise Urgoz can be really considered a ranger (in GW1 everyone had a profession, even monsters), but yeah, he nails the nature aspect, and would be a better alternative than Pyre. He also used a bow. I would prefer both him and Pyre to be inspiring new ranger elite specializations, instead of the revenant, but well.

For charr, any Flame Legion shaman would be a better alternative than Pyre, because they have unique fire magic that wouldn’t really fit the elementalist. Also, there was nothing more epic in charr history than the Searing, and just like Shiro is built around the Jade Wind, so could the potential Flame Legion legend as well.

I would still argue that ranger doesn’t have space for an Urgoz-like ESpec, a dark archer if you will. And that’s simply because ranger already uses both bow types. There is space for dark themes, just not the dark archer-type.

I agree with a Flame Legion ESpec but the thing is it’s hard to personify into anyone really. Bonfaaz Burntfur doesn’t scream legendary to me. He was level 10… However they have a chance to set up a new character in the current LWS story with Rytlock, or they could even go with Gaeheron Baelfire or Hierophant Burntsoul.

This is a bit off-topic: I think the next Especs should probably not include a new weapon for each class. That was the base idea behind the previous Especs but it’s not necessary to repeat it. I think Rev would benefit tremendously from it, but in all honesty do Ranger and Warrior really need new weapons? It’s hard to see how their functionality could be improved by another new weapon, they both have long-range and short-range power and condi weapons, all warrior is missing is a support weapon (Druid has staff). Same goes for ele and guard. Mesmer has a pseudo-support weapon with Staff’s Chaos storm and has many support utilities, with inspiration it’s a very supporting class. Thief lack a ranged condi weapon, and Reaper only has a 900 range power weapon with axe. Engi lacks a 1200 range condi weapon but tbh that’s probably for the best in terms of sPvP balance. I really hope Anet thinks beyond weapons and “range,” I think they blundered when they gave LB to guardians and I hope that they’ll think about creating new functionality rather than increasing the spread of existing functionalities.

I mean Shiro is a human and we have humans, so I think it would be ok to have a Tengu legend and Tengu as a playable race. Thing about Talon is that warrior-like gameplay wouldn’t really add to Rev’s existing playstyle with Shiro. Weapon: Greatsword
Unique class mechanic: The nerfhammer, basically whenever you click this a random ability is reduced by 50%, no cooldown on this; please note that nerfhammer’s effects are permanent, so once they your staff 5 is reduced by 50% it cannot be buffed again.
Utilities-
Healing = “A new experience…” Revive all downed enemies
Utility =
1 – “Commander, to me.” Pull friendly ally towards you and stun them for 10 seconds.
2 – “This won’t end well..” Apply max condis to allies within 6000 range of you.
3- “A word?” Stuns and binds all allies within 6000 range of you for 30 seconds.
Elite = “Commander..kill me..” Kill yourself.

It’s been a minute since I looked at this thread. I was thinking about how Dragon stance works (providing buffs to nearby allies) and realized that both Urgoz and Kanaxai are prime candidates for legends because their respective elite areas are exactly the opposite: they have debuffs depending on the area they’re in.

For example, in The Deep there are Aspects that reduce adrenaline generation, healing, blocking, and one that degenerates health, one that reduces movement speed, and one that CCs. There are a few more but if you want to know more you can visit the wiki. Urgoz’s Warren is the same with the area debuffs. Imo working this into something similar to the maintained Facets would be a really interesting counter to Glint’s aoe buffing of the team.

It’s not a gw1 specific lore thing (doesn’t suit Talon for example) or anything but there is that trope of tengu/bird-like monsters using razor sharp feather-like projectiles, so a dual wielding ranged dagger spec mechanically themed around agility, bleeds and kiting? Might tread on Shiro’s toes a bit too much though even if it is condi focused.

I’m definitely loving the Urgoz suggestions though more than anything else in this thread.

EDIT: trolled by forum necros.

The problem with that is that you’re just writing weapon combinations. You need to think about the theme, and also the mechanics connected to it. In my amazon idea, it’s a swamp stalker, heavily inspired by wild tribes and jungle poisons, and with an in-lore connection to the hylek.

Just “guy with x weapon” doesn’t work. You need a context. Also, said theme/darkness won’t usually come from the weapon skills, but the mechanic and the utilities.

No, mechanics are designed first and then themes are fit around the mechanics. A class’s theme is communicated more through it’s asthetics than through it’s mechanics.

Example:
Take Necromancer. Change all of their effects from green/black to green/gold. Replace all the spectral/skeletal hands with vines. Rename the spectral skill type to spiritual, and rename the corruption skill type to Rots. Replace minions with animals. Change Lich and Plague form to Arboreal and Insect swarm form. Rename Shroud to Nature Avatar.

Now the dark evil necro class has become a hippy nature class with zero mechanical changes.

Obviously there are some limits, for instance making a class all about group support, and giving it the thief theme would not make sense, but beyond direct contradictions themes can be fit to almost any mechanic.

Sanity is for the weak minded.

I’d actually say Eir could become a ranger legend.
Here’s the thing why: Look at Rytlocks dialouge during Prisoners of the Dragon.
He can feel Eir’s presence due to his revenant-magic, or mist-connection, or whatever it is that we hopefully get an explanation for soon.

And i think, this is just speculation, i think this is because Eir is, in her own right, a legend already.

We don’t have norn legend yet, so don’t rule Jora out.

The more I think about it, the most fitting it seems to have Jora as the next legend with either greasword or mainhand axe as the corresponding weapon.

I’d rather not have a charr legend anytime soon given the absurdity that it was Rytlock who was chosen as the first revenant despite the fact that the Charr are the least attuned with the mists; the first revenant should have been a norn or human. But Rytlock has always been the writers’ favorite.

Given the desert setting and the prominence of Azura in this season’s story, I would bet on Snaff. This would also round out Revenant legend themes to include something mechanical.

Maybe gun(s) or shotgun or sceptre as a ranged weapon. Summonable golems which cost energy to keep active. So you might pop them all for a quick blitz or just keep one or two out for a longer duration.

I’m not counting norn because theyre basically human. asura weren’t very prominent in gw1, I mean they were there but were sort of in the back ground. I’m thinking its a charr. there aren’t many notable charr, but pyre fierceshot comes to mind. that would mean a bow which doesn’t quite fit into the revenant theme tho, but they do channel spirits thru the mists so I guess anything can fit a rev. since rev only has one ranged weapon I’m thinking the next weapon will at least be ranged.

who knows, cant wait.

I would actually like Zinn for this part rather than Snaff. Zinn is the creator of Rata Novus, after all.

Yannir for males. (guard,thief,war,ele)
Sonya for females. (necro,rev,ranger,mes,engi)
All classes lvl 80.

I am the only one arround here that wants a greatsword as a ranged condi weapon for rev?
Its an iconic weapon for soldier classes, with condi ranged it would find a use it didnt had before would go well with Asgeir Dragonrender, trahearne or Riannoc ir even tge pale tree if she dies.

I wouldn’t be mad at a ranged condi greatsword, but it would be better if they made it like the spear. Both ranged and melee.

Interesting possibilities. Kanaxai used double axes, so that would be a route to bring in a mainhand axe. One of Urgoz’ combat skills is effectively a ritualist skill attached to a projectile, which puts it more in the revenant’s court than the ranger’s.

Keep in mind, though, that those locations weren’t the only ones to have environmental effects – the various domains of Glint’s lair did as well, as did the Realm of Anguish.

Based on my prior assessment, though, both can be said to be effectively extensions of Shiro’s impact on the world. Still, they would be more impressive than just giving us legends based on GW1 heroes.

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

“Nono” (If you dont know: The vacuum cleaner from the Teletubbies)
→ Youre able to use racial skills only
→ Sucks basically (just like a vacuum cleaner)

Its great, its wonderful. I love it. You will love it. 100%
