There’s been a number of speculation threads that have been glossing over this topic: who will be the Legend? Revs channel a significant person/entity from GW1 lore, so Anet will eventually pick one. Here are my ideas for Legends:

Saul D’Alessio: He was the first human chosen by the Mursaat, and actually learned Spectral Agony, meaning that he fits the “mortal with extra powers model” that Jalis and Ventari fit into. Also is more interesting in terms of lore, as the Mursaat were a neutral force rather than a bad one, previous Legends fall into the Pro-Abbadon, Pro-Destroyer camp, or the Anti-Abbadon, Anti-Destroyer camp. The Mursaat didn’t try to destroy them, simply contain them, and opposed the “Good” Prophecies heroes while still not being agents of the Destroyers. Skills:

  1. Heal skill is Soul Battery (AoE life steal). Alternative names could be “Chosen Sacrifice” or “Bloodstone Sacrifice” since that’s how the Soul Battery got charged.
  2. Ether Seal (increase cooldowns, effect not a condition)
  3. Jade Armor (stunbreak and reflect)
  4. Jade Bow (replaces weapon and weapon skills with longbow, which has condition-applying attacks)
  5. Elite is Signet of the Unseen (targeted area knockdown and burning, maybe passive effect would be increased condition duration)

Profession mechanic would be Spectral Agony (damage, slow, torment). This would be a good alternative to Mallyx for a more ranged condi option.

Varesh Ossa: Was a direct servant of Abaddon like D’Alessio was of the Mursaat, and like him gained powers as a servant. Strength of this Legend is snaring and weakening individuals for party focus.

  1. Earth Vortex: does damage and knocks down those using non-AA skills with an activation time. Should have a small AoE effect around the Rev, large AoE would be OP, but could also be single-target.
  2. Enchantment Collapse: Whenever target loses a boon, remove 2 more boons.
  3. Call of Sacrifice: Basically is just causing damage while target is above a certain threshold.
  4. Frost Vortex: Similar to Earth Vortex, but chills instead of CCs. Chill from this has a stronger effect, maybe 80%.
  5. Elite: Enemies Must Die: For 10 seconds, whenever an enemy is hit by Rev, it receives the “Enemies Must Die” effect. This causes any of Rev’s party members to do 15% extra damage to the target. The effect can only be on one enemy at a time, and will affect the most recently hit enemy.

Profession Mechanic: Words of Madness: taken straight from Abaddon, causes area immobilize for 4 seconds, AoE is 600.

Palawa Joko: Pretty interesting in that he was a big part of Nightfall’s history, but also plays a role in the present-day campaign. Might not work since he’s supposedly a part of GW2 lore. Could be replaced by the Master of Whispers since they’re both Necromancers, though skills would need to be reworked. Uses “Order” skills that have party range in the GW1 sense rather than just affecting nearby allies, like Facets, and require health sacrifice. Don’t have passive upkeep, only have effect for a few seconds, perhaps 5 seconds just like in GW1.

  1. Heal skill is Order of Unholy Vigor, gives quickness and small health regain on skill usage.
  2. Order of Pain (stack 12 might, maybe more)
  3. Order of Apostasy (boon removal)
  4. Order of the Vampire (lifesteal)
  5. Elite: Dark Fury (Each hit gives 1 sec of cooldown reduction)

Profession mechanic would be Taste of Undeath, is a life transfer from Joko/the Rev to an ally. This should not be party range otherwise Rev would just be a glorified battery.

Other ideas

King Doric: This one is iffy, he didn’t actually make an appearance in the games, only the lore. I don’t have many specific skill ideas for him, but since he was involved in the division of magic into 5 bloodstones which were sealed with his blood, maybe he could channel the power of a stone in each utility.

Corrupted Kuunavang: Kind of similar to Glint tbh but an interesting one nonetheless. Would be mostly focused on direct damage rather than Glint’s party support. Too lazy to translate her GW1 skills into GW2 language, but they are Corrupted Breath, Corrupted Dragon Scales, Corrupted Dragon Spores, Dark Chain Lightning, and Renewing Corruption. Profession mechanic would be giving very close allies (like within 300 range) Celestial skills which are based on the profession. Should not be the same a Thief’s stolen skills.

Zhu Hanuku: Could make use of cool GW1 mesmer skills like Psychic Instability and Panic, as well as its signature skill Jade Fury.

Urgoz or Kanaxai: Like Zhu Hanuku don’t have many unique skills of their own to draw from unfortunately, but have lore that could serve as fodder.

I know right Even though it’d probably somewhat annoying for me too I’d really happy with revenant getting a rifle.

However, there is higher chance that this class will get some other useless dung like focus instead. Ugh…

I think, General Morgahn is a obvious choice.
People do want Spears → so give them (Underwater-)Spears. Higher attack speed than Hammers, but not that strong.
You wont need much imagnination for Slot Skills → Shouts. Supporting your allies within earshot or maybe debuff the enemy. Shouts have no activation time and work with higher range as the Glint Facets, but cant be upkept like the Facets.

It is really simple.

  • 1: I hope we don’t get more humans.
  • 2: I hope we get new characters we never heard from before, from ancient times, and learn about new stories.

Most of the GW1 heroes are not important enough to be their own legends, and those who could be are just other professions already ingame.

My wishlist:

  • Ancient tengu ritualist, from a now extinct tribe. Focused on spirits, turret-like minions. Has a neutral and judging attitude at your use of her, instead of agreeing or disagreeing. Ideally, this legend wouldn’t be an elite spec, and instead be added to core revenant to improve variety problems. Would use scepter and focus.
  • Original Flame Legion imperator, a powerful Flame Legion shaman. Elite skill could be related to the Searing. Would use torch. More info about this idea here.
  • Ancient jotun stargazer oracle. Astrology and Zodiac themes mixed with nordic and celtic stuff. Maybe a valkyrie-like legendary queen of the jotun, the last of their monarchs. Would use shortbow.
  • Krait/Naga/Largos witch. Creepy underwater Lovecraftian themes. Darkness, voodoo, nightmares, etc. Would use scythe (new weapon). Could just be some kind of new monster instead of a sentient race, like some ancient kraken-like creature, defeated long time ago by an army of largos heroes.

The key is to make sure they cover new themes not available to other professions, like unique schools of magic, or stuff from other races.

Urgoz or Kanaxai: Like Zhu Hanuku don’t have many unique skills of their own to draw from unfortunately, but have lore that could serve as fodder.

In my mind, Kanaxai is too close to Mallyx, both being basically demonic. Also, his minions, the Oni, were assassin demons, and that comes too close to Shiro as well.

Urgoz on the other hand would be an excellent choice. You can directly compare Urgoz to the Pale Tree. The Pale Tree, in turn, would be a legendary character if she weren’t still alive. A dragon lieutenant failed to kill her. And those comparisons can be applied to Urgoz, since their nature is similar if not exactly the same.

Furthermore, even if Urgoz doesn’t have many unique skills, he does have a few that could easily be made into revenant skills. And the rest can be taken from his followers, the Wardens. Throw in a shortbow with condi skills, and we finally get something to use Mallyx with. In concept art Urgoz is depicted using a bow.

Other characters I would like to input for consideration would be:
-Rodgort
-Mhenzies
-Dhuum
-Gwen (okay, we can forget that, she’s more nostalgic than legendary)

Yannir for males. (guard,thief,war,ele)
Sonya for females. (necro,rev,ranger,mes,engi)

Urgoz could be really good, though I could see his themes used for a ranger specialization instead, something about dark nature, strangling vines, and carnivorous plants. Also, I feel like Ventari kinda stole the “nature” spot already.

Mhenzies… In one hand he’s a “nobody”, but in the other, he could be expanded, getting some unique fire spells. But then, a Flame Legion spec would probably be better, because cauldrons and Searing.

Dhuum is just a necromancer, and anything you think about him would be better spent on actual necromancer elite specializations. Gwen is just a normal mesmer.

It’s probably going to be Turai Ossa.

If we’re going to Elona, it’s got to be Turai.

That would be lame as hell.

We’re probably meeting his spirit again, so it’s kinda contradictory too.

Your post me realize the answer has to be Tybalt. It just clicked. Now I know for a fact the next legend will be Tybalt and it’s pointless to wish otherwise.

None of the mentors are really legendary. Also, please let them rest in peace, specially Tybalt, which is just a joke meme by now. Kinda defies the whole purpose of their sacrifice.

Treahearne could work (even if I don’t like him being a recent character), but there’s more powerful necromancers in lore, like the Lich. And in the end, they’re all just necromancers anyway, they don’t provide anything unique.

Hey, what about the Mad King Thorn. lol

His Elite could be a stance shift that changes the healing and utility skills.
Switching between a Giddy stance and a Grim stance. Each having a cooldown.
Could have a couple of traits that auto swap stances, bypassing the cooldown, when certain conditions are met.
I think the voice acting for that would be fun to do, and hilarious. Kind of like how batman’s Joker switches between jovial and dead serious when talking.

My updated wishlist:

  • Ancient female tengu, the first ritualist, from a now extinct desert tribe. Focused on spirits, turret-like minions. Has a neutral and judging attitude at your use of her, instead of agreeing or disagreeing. Ideally, this legend wouldn’t be an elite spec, and instead be added to core revenant to improve variety problems. Would use scepter and focus.
  • Original Flame Legion imperator, a powerful shaman who has mastered fire, lava, and smoke. Focused on DPS, burning, and blind. Elite skill would be a miniature Searing. Would use torch. New mechanic would give each legend an invulnerable pet, called the relic. More info about this idea here.
  • Ancient female jotun stargazer, last valkyrie-oracle-queen of her race before their civilization fell. Astrology and Zodiac themes mixed with nordic and celtic stuff. Would use shortbow, hunt stars, and weave constellations. New mechanic would be a transformation, where the user becomes a physical embodiment of the active legend, getting a conjured weapon with new skills while transformed.
  • The Ancient Seer from GW1, with new expanded background story. Would offer no resistance on lending his powers, and offer tips and advice, for no apparent reason. Later on we would discover he’s still alive. Skills themes around shadow and bloodstones, vulnerability and weakness, plus life stealing and enemy healing reduction. Elite would mark an area in the ground with the bloodstone runes, and give boosts to allies for all damage done inside the area. Would use scythe (new 2h weapon).

I switched the krait/naga/largos witchcraft for some shadow and bloodstone seer magic, since the underwater Lovecraftian themes could fit a mesmer specialization better, and elaborated on the skills and mechanics of each legend idea.

I was mostly joking about Trahearne. Honestly I think it needs to stay as characters not introduced in GW2. None of them have really made legendary status yet in my opinion.

The only exception I could think of is Asgeir Dragonrender but then again, there isn’t anything really special about him that could provide material for an unique legend. Also, the point of characters like him is that they were normal people who stood up and faced challenge, and giving them special powers would ruin their characters.

I’m glad Urgoz is getting some love. He could be sort of a dark ranger/mad ranger. Probably my top vote, though I’m still kinda pulling for Saul D’Alessio b/c I’m a Mursaat fan.

Dhuum is just a necromancer, and anything you think about him would be better spent on actual necromancer elite specializations.

I’m sorry but you are wrong on these 2.

Mhenzies is Balthazar’s twin brother, and equally powerful. The whole reason for PvP in GW1 was to aid Balthazar’s celestial conflict against Mhenzies. The favor of those fighting for Balthazar was turned into a sort of divine energy he fed on to defeat Mhenzies once and for all.

Dhuum on the other hand was the god of death before Grenth was. Grenth and his reapers took Dhuum’s power in a struggle that left Grenth alone among the living. This event can be equated to Kormir taking Abaddon’s power.
So no, Dhuum was not just a necromancer. He was THE necromancer if there ever was one. You could compare him to Sauron.

But the thing is with these 2 that they would be difficult to justify for the exact same reasons as the human gods. I’ll grant it’s not worship, or faith, so a charr revenant wouldn’t need to have that faith, instead just utilizing their power.

Actually a charr revenant would be more likely to use the powers of these 2 than a human revenant. A human would feel like he’s betraying the gods.

Lastly, I really don’t think these 2 very likely. It’s just fun to speculate. My money is wholly on Urgoz.

I have nothing against a god Legend for revenant, but that’s already been done with Dervish Avatars in GW1 for the Tyrian pantheon. Other extraneous gods like Dhuum would be interesting, but since Rev is only likely to get 1, maybe 2 more Legends, picking a god instead of a non-god would be out of character and arbitrary. Though it would definitely be cool to have a Dhuum Legend and he has plenty of unique skills to draw from.

Not really, Dhuum is 100% necromancy, and since we already have a necromancer profession, there’s no reason to give Dhuum stuff to revenants instead of necromancers, assuming he has anything that makes him special aside from his monster model.

The Scepter unleashes a constant barrage of Lightning projectiles and hexes a foe with Painful Bond, which causes each spirit you control to deal increased damage to that foe. While foes are distracted by a Ritualist’s spirits, the Ritualist can obliterate foes with the delayed strike of Spirit Rift, which deals devastating area damage and applies vulnerable. Immobilize foes with Binding Chains, so that they cannot escape the wrath of your Spirits and your Spirit Rift.

Profession Mechanic: Spirits. Summon powerful Spirits to act as your turrets. F2, F3, and F4 summon a spirit in place, but each requires 1 pip of Energy to maintain. Pressing the button again will destroy your spirit and cause them to go on recharge.

New Legend: Master Togo. Master Togo’s skillbar consists of powerful Weapon Spells, which function similar to Venoms. Splinter Weapon buffs you and surrounding allies with AoE splash damage for each foe you strike, up to 5 foes, punishing enemies who stack closely. Nightmare Weapon will allow allies’ next 5 attacks to steal life. Your elite skill, Dragon Empire Rage, is not a Weapon Spell, but a powerful burst which allows the Revenant to deal powerful AoE damage within range depending on how many times a revenant struck a foe within a certain amount of time.

I don’t quite understand how no one has mentioned this yet, but neither Jalis or Ventari were humans. They are a Dwarf and Centaur respectively. Mallyx is a Demon, Glint is a Dragon. Only Shiro is Human.

As far as options, I wouldn’t mind seeing:

  • Master Togo
  • Pyre Fierceshot
  • Jora or Asgeir Dragonrender (the guy who punched Jormag’s Tooth out)
  • Vekk or Snaff
  • Riannoc or Trahearne

We’ve got Primordus and Jormag as the main two targets, and Kralkatorrik as an extension of Aurene. The list above is organised as a mix of what I would like and what it likely because of the happenings in LS3. Togo because of the Ritualist, Pyre because of missing niche, Norn because of Jormag, Asura because of Primordus, and Sylvari because w/e.

Snaff? Snaff?!
Yes, that would actually be very interesting.

Personally I’ve steered clear of these ones because I don’t think most of them are likely. I think ANet are unlikely to add rev legends that have adventured with the players. But in the end it’s mostly personal preference, since I don’t see most of these as legendary figures.

So out of this list I only believe Asgeir, Snaff and Riannoc are plausible. Even out of those, only Asgeir fits the shoes of legendary status.

Urgoz and Pyre would fill the same niche btw.

Players did missions with Jalis by their side in GW1. They were together about as much as Master Togo or the Heroes were in their required story sections.

I think the more important consideration is the niche each legend could fulfill which is where Togo and Pyre are the strongest right now.

Master Togo: The Ritualist.

A Revenant reconnects with their ability to commune with the spirits of Tyria. Legends like Master Togo fought and died heroically to protect the citizens of Tyria and make peace with the races. Inspired by his legend, the Spirits fight as companions to any Ritualists willing to defend this world from evil.

New Weapon: Scepter. A Ritualist gains the ability to use a Scepter, invoking powerful Channeling and Lightning Magics. You may be right on that one, my memories from the Prophecies campaign are hazy at best. I remember the Factions campaign more clearly. The thing is, King Jalis doesn’t fit the “exceptional mortal”-caste he’s usually thrown in. He invoked the Rite of the Great Dwarf, which puts him more on level with Mallyx/Glint than Ventari/Shiro. In that, he is kind of unique.

So while the legend channeled is personified by King Jalis, it is essentially in truth the entire dwarven race that is channeled by the revenant via the invoked Rite.

My thoughts are the opposite, the lore of that character must come first. The role played is secondary, but important as well. There is a plethora of smaller considerations as well. While Pyre and Togo are important characters, I don’t feel like they fit, or are exceptional in any way.

Pyre led the Charr rebellion against the Shaman Caste system. They bound the entire race underneath world-destroying “gods” and prevented females from having any appreciable role in society (if you’re into that sort of thing). He’s the one that helped Charr become the atheist race they are today.

Master Togo was Headmaster at Shing Jea Monastery. He negotiated peace treaties between the Tengu and Humans, ending the Tengu war, and twice negotiated peace between the Kurzicks and Luxons to help defeat Shiro. He had Imperial blood, and was finally enshrined in Tahnnakai Temple with the other historical heroes of Cantha.

If anything, we can agree Revenants aren’t short of options to revere.

Well part of what makes all legends other than Ventari exceptional is their access to powers that transcend that of a normal mortal’s. Togo actually does, as you can see with the Dragon Empire Rage skill in The Tengu Accords. In fact those of the imperial bloodline had special magic given to them by Dwayna. Shiro stole that power when he murdered the (then) emperor, and the Jade Wind was the release of that power on his death. And yeah I’m kind of a weeb when it comes to GW1 lore.

So simply by his bloodline Togo really does fit the “mortal with superpowers” model, although Ventari proves that you can just be a cool horse dude who plants a baller tree and end up being a Legend.

Since we already have Rangers, who are sort of like good wardens of nature and are on Melandru’s side, I object to really any Ranger Legend like Pyre. Although I like his personality as a Legend, it would be unique. He doesn’t seem to have any superpowers that I remember, but again Ventari has left a precedent of being just a chill bro Legend. I’m pulling for Urgoz since he’s morally neutral and is kind of like the unforgiving, hostile side of nature as opposed to Rangers.

Well, with Ventari specifically the baller tree created the Sylvari (as opposed to just mordremoth minions) and his tablet seems to be quite magical itself.

I like what little lore of the Wardens we have, but I personally don’t think Urgoz resonates as easily as other options. If the Wardens got expanded upon, then sure. It would certainly be more topical to get a legend at the same time as additional lore.

On this basis, we are equally likely to get Prince Rurik. Or King Adelbern. It’s like I said, he’s important but not exceptional.

I might come around with Togo though. I had forgotten the power of Canthan imperial blood. Thanks to @Huskyboy for reminding me of that.

Exactly what I was thinking about the Wardens, as well as the rest of Echovald. If Cantha is added, and hopefully it will be, then Urgoz would be more topical. Although if we’re being honest it’s not like the existing Legends are terribly relevant to the GW2 storyline in general, with the exception of Glint’s egg. Ventari is mentioned in his relevance to the Pale Tree, and that’s really about it. Shiro, Jalis, and Mallyx are kinda just relics of the past, though Mallyx was never part of the GW1 storyline anyways.

Also, since the White Mantle and Jade Constucts are showing up in Ember Bay, I wonder if they’re going to fully revive the Mursaat. If that’s the case then Saul D’Alessio would become a more relevant choice.

If you recall, Pyre had quite a few fire based skills. If he’s added, I picture them giving him some skills that weren’t moved into GW2, and have access to a lot of burning on Longbow (which would probably be his weapon), and possibly more than a few conditions on him. While Mallyx seemed to deal with torment and taking conditions, Pyre could easily deal with dishing them out.

Looking at his GW1 wiki page I’m not really seeing any special skills, just regular ranger skills if that’s what you’re referring to. Was he in anything like the Bonus Mission Pack where he had extra skills or something? And yeah your model for him as a legend makes sense.
