the revenant looks interesting just not sure i fully understand, i dont pvp much so m not bothered bout metrics there, but for pve what style is the revenant mix n match of x classes ? or something else ?

I think its its own style really, because it has so many different flavors in PVE. Its all going to depend on how you want to play the character. I plan to do backline support/dps in WvW, and melee support/dps in PVE. Then again I can switch things out and go Frontline tank/dps in WVW and full backline support in PVE.

Revs fall under the category of Jack of All Trades. So they can be spec’d for quite a few different types of roles depending on team comp. They play very well in the DPS and Support (defense and offense).

That’s part of the beauty of the Revenant is that you can mix different styles together. Whether you want to be aggressive offensively, be tanky, provide support, or some combination, there’s a way to do that.

Guardian in that they can group heal, projectile block, and provide protection

Warrior-ing in the form of high might and vulnerability generation, and they have a damage boosting party buff.

Ranger in the sense that their primary range weapon hits like a truck and scales with distance (to an extent).

Not entirely sure what you mean by caster (roles-wise, I mean). But yeah, the Rev class can wear a lot of hats. Not necessarily as well at the originators of the hat, but Revs still do a great job of filling a role.

You can do just about everything with the revenant. Each legend covers a pretty large area of gameplay.

Here’s a very simplistic and superficial description of the style of each legend and weapon:

Shiro/sword: Frontline damage and mobility.
Jalis: Tank and some support at any range.
Hammer: Backline damage with a nice projectile absorb.
Ventari: Mega-support at any range.
Staff: Frontline damage and support.
Glint: Support with boon pulses and some mid-range damage options and utility.
Shield: Support and block.
Mace/axe: Frontline condition weapons.
Mallyx: Frontline conditions and utility with resistance.

Ultimately, it’s just better if you play it.

You can, but you’d want to switch it up sometime.

It’d be about as viable as an elementalist staying in fire forever or an engineer who never uses any kits. It’s technically possible and you probably wouldn’t die ALL the time but it’s just a waste. If you want to play like that, you’d probably be better off with a warrior or maybe a ranger.

I felt like a warrior/guardian/thief hybrid when I play.

High damage auto attacks if traited and with fury.
Boons to allies
UA dodging around
Shield to block and heal
Protection options
Perma swiftness making us fast

Guard + Thief is my simplistic 2-profession combination comparison. This does not mean Revs can do everything a Guardian does, or anything a Thief does.

Revs support their party through heals and boons similar to Guardian. They teleport around and have lots of evades like Thief.

I wouldn’t go quite that far. I think Glint is well suited to staying there most of the time, especially in a group where personal dps might take a hit, but you are boosting group dps. But yeah, there will be times where switching is advantageous, like if you need a heal or want to break a stun or clear a condition.

I think maybe the question is asking whether you have to constantly switch legends to do decent dps, and the answer to that is no if you manage your energy usage well (easier to do with some legend/weapon combos). Not like you would on a class built around long cooldown abilities.
