I can totally see DPS Revenant being a thing, even if theoretical dps is still way lower then Warrior/Guardian/Elementalist.

The problem is that Revenant is not going to have much more survivability. It’s going to be kill before getting killed.

Tank Revenant won’t be possible if things don’t change.

The problem i noticed is similiar to guardian (mace/shield), defensive builds with low mobility can be easilly defeated trough high mobility or high damage builds (metabuilds are extremly good at this, and extremelly good within some classes), the game dont support that defensive/tactifull gameplay.

The problem is not only on the revenant.

It’s the combat mechanics, and your concern only adresses PvP/WvW Roaming.

“Tank” builds are not viable because defenses and damage mitigation come from boons and if you have access to it weakness/blind, positioning, crowd control, blocks and dodge also play a role on this, that’s why the celestial meta was so strong before the patch you want a good bunker/node keeper? get a profession with some mobility, moderate damage and acces to boons that amplify the damage they deal and decrease the damage they take and you have it, thoughness and healing alone are not reliable on fights that last longer than 30-60 seconds because in other professions you end up without cooldowns (revenant just runs out of energy), with your boons converted to conditions, tons of condition pressure over you and you get outdamaged by 2-3 players focusing you if no one helps you mitigate damage. I actually find this more challenging because it makes you think on what skills to use and when you should use them, if you should disengage or stay there even if you’ll die just to stall the attackers and not just a bash fest on keys to regenerate yourself and stand in the middle of the skirmish like an allmighty piñata.

PvE wise you just need to min/max DPS for your party and then for yourself and the same could be said, mobs don’t spam autoattacks, most of the time are stationary if you are on melee range and you just need protection, vigor, weakness, blind, blocks to manage the heavy hits they might do to you, not counting that you have 2 dodges, the highest damage that could 1 shot you can be mitigated and even then, you’re better off killing faster because if your boon/condition upkeep is low and you get outhealed, your utility skills will be on cooldown, and eventually you’ll die. That’s why people of the speedclear scene use berserker gear even in high level fractals.

Well for the videos ive been seen Ravenant cant desengage and is not a mobile class, no matter how much active defense has it is easy to kill, only way to survive must be via shiro and high damage builds? i assume that everyone will play it since it is supose to be teh damage role.

I wouldnt call it is more challange, becouse it is easy to kill players thus the challange is to survive(by having more damage output than target) but anyone can make a point w/o much tactics, that leads to only viable builds are the builds that have better (aoe) damage.
Loled @ that “allmighty piñata” ,imo it is perfectly example how ic players play spvp, when ic a team getting killed in less than 5 seconds… by 2 players.

Bout pve i dont know.. i avoid it, so yes my concerns are mostly towards wvw a litle bit pvp.

(edit) i dont like tanks to(does not make sense here), but some classes have defensive tools that not worth to take them, thus i gave the example comparison of a defensive rev wit the mace/shield guard.

Sigh….I will miss my necro. But my damage output has just been making me so sad I know shrio and glint will just be better.

Roy, I appreciate what you do but i am BEGGING YOU, please seriously consider reworking Mallyx and Jalis. presently it seems like Revenant doesn’t possess any real passive benefits for these two Legends and because we are limited to only 3 utility skills per legend it seems as though we are unable to customize our set up based upon our needs or our team mates needs. Jalis especially seems to be lacking in boons or effects that mitigate damage reliably, if you
get focused there really don’t seem to be many mechanics that can stop you from getting steam rolled.

I could use a little “energy buff” if ya know what I mean. :P But in all seriousness, I’m so pumped for the next chance to test some of my build ideas for rev and see what I can make work. Also thanks for listening to the community’s suggestions on revenant. One of the best things I read in the changes was the cast time reductions on some of the skills, I actually fangirled a little bit over these changes (and I’m a guy so that’s some serious stuff lol)

i think one of the biggest issues that we haven’t seen much active defencive mechanics on Rev yet

teef – stealth, blind
guard – blinds and block+invurn
engi- blocks, heals, good CC
mesm – blinds, stealth, invurn, block (omg STAPH)
ele – blind, inurn, reflect block (wth)
warrio – inurns (stances), stabs, blocks
ranger – signet, evades
necro – oops…

seems rev will be like necro in this case if it won’t add bigger ammount of active def abilities, though need futher testing of what u already guys chancged (because as i udnerstood you worked ALOT on it)

But without some kind of decent defencive/evasive mechanics u can’t make it good pvp dps class.

Guard has also a lot of protection, and ele is getting 40% protection on overcharge… has 4 of them. And ele has like 2 times the dps of a shiro revenant. Necro has shroud, protection and siphons.

Revenant has less siphons and jalis elite

Since the Beta event I have done very little in game other than farm to gear a Rev. Even with the damage being weak I found a build I like and hope to improve on it with the changes made.
