A bug with stealth
Multi-shot or channeled attacks are intended to follow stealthed targets.
This is no bug; you have encountered one of the few weaknesses of stealth.
Excuse me is this a disguised “NURF THEIF” thread by any chance ?

I started playing my thief again in WvW last night and noticed this exact thing. I don’t think they should change it to be honest, the stealth thing is way too OP as it is. I ran in the middle of a 30+ man zerg for about 5 minutes just hitting someone and then stealthing before finally getting caught and killed. I have lvl 80 warrior, mesmer and guardian also and none of them could do that.
I agree, it’s very odd indeed.
It’s counterintuitive to get hit by single target abilities, even after you use a “force target drop” ability.
Not even talking about that it doesn’t makes any sense. How the feck do they know were you are when you are invisible, to fallow you with their shots.
It also feels stupid as player using the ability since you just sit there and fallow nothing with your shoots. Easymode.
Enemy uses an ability to counter my channeled attack? What do i care!?
What does stealth do?
It forces a target drop.
It makes the enemy not knowing where you are.
Protects you from single target abilities.
What do these channeled attacks do?
Don’t drop when the enemy stealthes.
Makes you know where the enemy stealthed player is.
Continues to do damage on stealthed enemies.
Why do i carry a stealth ability again?
This sounds more like a rant from people that can’t stealth. Being able to continue casting once stealthed completely obliterates our very diminished as it is survive-ability.
I constantly get pummeled by staff guardians and warriors, i don’t need a ranger showing off where i go when i stealth to those guys. That is just a plain moronic way to balance out stealth, it takes the surprise chance for us against our targets. OH YEAH i forgot, kids don’t like to get hit by surprise.
To me, this should be changed, that would force other classes to have to get some survival skills to survive and actually get a chance. Why do other classes get to have “super-powers” and still rant on our 1 advantage(stealth)?
So is this a bug or is it intentionally made by Arena Net?
If it is intended, then I don’t agree at all with Arena Net about this decision.
Stealth is made to get away and surprise the enemy. As mentioned above, noone should be ably to know where I am going once I’ve gone into stealth.
The whole point with stealth is to be INVISIBLE.
Not only can others take a lot of my health without using any kind of brain activity to think about where I’ve gone, but they can also follow my movement while the attack is channeled.
This is ridiculous IMO.
Holy cow. You’re complaining?
If you’re not running a 3 to 1 kill to death ratio in 1v1 encounters on a fully geared thief, I have to say you’re doing it wrong. Our stealth is already ridiculously overpowered. It can heal, remove debuffs, and grant speed. This one mechanic not working in our favor is like complaining that your new Lamborghini needs new windshield wipers.
I’m on the fence with this one YES its stupid that the “stealth” ability does show others where your heading with the mutli shot/channel attacks, especially those fecking karka pve ads that hit for 1/2k+ and pop and costantly pummel you after stealthing. This does need to change in some form.
But also if you play a thief right you can hide in the wvw battlefield most of the time using your skills to break and close to targets before turning stealthed and losing your target or killing them. Ive met some uber thief players in WvW and i couldnt help watch one kill 3 players whilst using stealth so fluidly. Even i myslef as a good thief player was stunned and still know I need to learn more.
But overall if stealth could be tweeked slightly to get rid of this multi/channel attack i’d be happy to see that.
Kincaidia, I can see now, that my above written text can make me seem like an unskilled QQ’er, but I can assure that I am not doing it wrong.
If I am to say it myself I’m a very good PvP’er as a thief and I can easily take down a group of 5 if I play my cards right and take my time.
However, this is in my honest opinion a weakness to stealth that does not seem intentionally made by Arena Net, giving the fact that this bug/weakness sort of contradicts the meaning of stealth, and therefor I want to make them aware of the bug/my opinion of the contradiction.
I do agree with your comparison of my complaint to the Lamborghini issue though. It was funny too.
But one has to ask: if the windshield on your new Lamborghini is broken, or does not work intentionally, wouldn’t you like to see it fixed?

So you can take down a group of 5, no problem? This sounds like more of an issue than channeled skills tracking through stealth. A little advice, next time a ranger casts rapid fire and you go into stealth, you can still evade instead of soak the entire channel. It isn’t that difficult to manage.
I can evade sure enough, if I have any endurance left.
But even if I have, I can still be hit after I have dodged, because the channeling still follows me.
But Sir, I do think you’re missing my point, I should not be hit in the first place, if I go into stealth and move from the path the channeling is going.
On a further note, the 1v5 thing is not something I and any other thief can do if the group is filled with truly skilled players though.
Besides, the question of wether ot not the thief as a class in general is OP (which you seem to be refering to) is coming from a bunch of noobish QQ’ers, who haven’t figured out a way to counter a thief’s stealth mecanic IMHO.
I can take down a group of 5 with cunning and patience, sure. Not many other classes can do so, but it only takes ONE truly skilled player of any profession to take me down.
All that matters is some knowledge and insight of a skilled thief’s mindset.
Learn to counter is all I have to say about that really.
