I have not yet had the opportunity to try my thief after patch, but from what I read think so: all attack us because we use a build, the bs, which consists of spam 2 buttons. ArenaNet what it does? Destroys a build, s / d, which is the only build that, based only on the daze and movement (falnking strike is nothing short of embarrassing), requires more strategy and a little more experience and skill. In this way, forcing the thieves to use only the dagger and making our way a little too boring and only interesting for the kids who want to see only the kill. (I have absolutely nothing against thieves burst … I do not like those who spam without intelligence and strategy.)
The nerf ArenaNet has me completely disgusted.

Yeah thief seemed promising, but it’s turning out to be a real bust. I think part of the problem is that the class isn’t en par with the other ones, so they tried to push it in line.

I see 3 major problems

- We sacrifice way too much damage when speccing out of power/precision
- Pistol is too weak and dagger isn’t all that as offhand
- Stats, gear and traits aren’t as compatible as they should be

Imagine if our normal damage wasn’t so dependant on critting and pistol was good. You would be able to go a Venom/power build and wielding strong utility spells without actually kittening yourself (allthough thief also lacks venoms). The way stats and weaponsets are setup now, you can’t really go with fun an innovative builds without nerfing your damage. Perhaps stats should have an effect on every skill, just a different one, to improve build options.

Have you ever tried the backstab build against experienced teams in tPvP? I think you’ll find it a lot more challenging, and hopefully more interesting because of that challenge.

But yeah, I could see how people who play thief exclusively would be upset with the nerf, even if it was reasonable. Not saying that it was or wasn’t, just pointing out that no one likes losing power.

i dont even have a thief and i think that nerf was a lil overkill(i play a power necro)seems to me they just want to appease the generic casual players who DO NOT spec into any survivability or just map DPS increase utilities. IMO if you are roaming alone and get oneshot like this then you are doing something wrong. Like geewoody said backstabbing in a group situation is completely different.

My biggest problem is the same problem I had with WoW for years on end -

Various numbers and microscopic details are tweaked, for good or bad, endlessly while very obvious macro-level design flaws are left alone indefinitely.

As a result, we get poorly thought out nerfs, and less often buffs, to individual skills when the problem is usually indirect and related to skill combinations or specific conditions and would benefit much more from a more macro-level approach.

I.e. Pistol Whip. Haste was the obvious offender here, not Pistol Whip. Why patch after patch goes by with the Quickness buff not being retuned to an extra 25-50% speed rather than double speed is beyond me. No, instead let’s nerf Pistol Whip where it does less damage than auto-attack, even though it doesn’t affect any other issues stemming from Haste.

Dancing Dagger. The obvious offender here was not the baseline damage of the skill, it’s the fact that it does full damage up to 4 times when more than one enemy is present. The skill’s damage was balanced assuming a single hit/cripple, which made it OP against multiple targets. What’s the obvious solution? Make the damage degrade after the first hit. What did they do? Destroyed its damage altogether and now it’s as kittened as it was overpowered before. Even if they felt a reduction in its baseline damage was necessary, a 25% reduction would have been far more reasonable.

The Assassin’s Signet change was actually very good, but there’s still a problem with thieves being overly pigeonholed into glass cannon specs that does not seem to be being taken very seriously.

It isn’t just thieves either, changes I’ve seen across professions often reek of either laziness or incompetence. They honestly probably don’t have enough resources allocated to seriously analyzing and trying to resolve profession issues in a comprehensive way and are being left in a position that forces them to opt for easy, short-sighted tweaks.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, half of their bug fixes just result in other bugs.
