A new way to burst?
http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIj3Z-gk5_7Zs17CQJNKkfg?feature=guide
its a terrible idea!
didn’t enjoy it as much as i thought…
I think the likelihood of this is minimal. Devs have already stated they want to decrease thief burst vs targets that aren’t bunker (no boons) while increasing damage to bunkers (most stack boons)
loads flamethrower
What we have here is a fine example of OP’ness
This + Executioner + Exposed Weakness + First Strikes (30-30-x-x-x)
50 + 20 + 10 + 10 = 90% That damage seems like it would be too much, even with it being conditional in my opinion.
and refuses to spare the life in return for the surrender at discretion (unconditional surrender)
of a vanquished opponent.
Hmm… interesting idea.
Let’s see what we can do with this…
If we make it 20% (like Executioner) extra damage to a foe with no boons, that would entice thieves to actually pay attention to the amount of stripped boons. Of course, you can’t really SPAM Flanking Strike, so anyone with major boon potential is safe from a sPvP or WvW perspective. However, when you look at it from a PvE perspective, this may actually help Thief dps in boss fights (where we kind of lag behind the other classes in terms of raw damage output. Let’s face it, a full zerker Thief is not gonna out-dps a full zerker warrior at a boss fight.)
“A wise man once said something. No one paid attention.”
I think 100blades should hit 100 times.
50% more damage….
50% more damage.
50% more damage
50%.
50%.
50%.
Think my head just exploded.
since when is having a sword skill that removes boons new?
Also yeah would be ridiculously strong and target the wrong people, same way that so far all their thief nerfs have mostly effected the ones that aren’t being complained about.

yeah….thts why i was complaining. its the builds that dont abuse things that get hurt the most. s/d is a balanced build….0 30 20 20 0 does about 60% dmg less than 30 30 0 0 10
30/30 0 0 10 is the fun way to play.
Bonus points because this would make thieves absolutely broken in PvE where it is easy to ensure the target is boonless.
Whether they need it or not, warriors are already going to be getting the flat damage increase vs. targets based on boons. Some more thief-specific boonhate might be an increased critical chance vs. boonless targets, a venom that does increased damage per boon the target has, a trap that eats boons and does a stun or daze based on the number of boons, or a field ability that applies blind whenever an affected enemy is booned.
I know “moar raw damage” is tempting, but there are ways to increase thief effectiveness against certain mechanics that more closely mesh with the current thief dynamics.
I seem to miss so much, warriors are getting an increase vs boonless targets?
Last I heard they were going to be getting something along the lines of 3% damage per boon the target has which isn’t all that impressive considering protections 33% reduction will still effect it as will aegis etc.

That is correct, I edited my post right after it went up to reflect this. I meant that warriors were already getting a raw damage increase based on the number of boons targets have. Giving thieves an opposite effect is just going to create a massive conflict of interest that will further favor warriors in group play (can’t bring both professions since they hurt eachother, might as well choose the survivable one with simple utility/damage).
Well wouldn’t be the first time games have introduced such conflicts, I mean with the boon removal in game already you would already have some conflict warriors would want you to remove only aegis and protection and leave everything else so they do more damage
But with the amount of complaints about people running with no defenses already being killed quickly I doubt they’d ever make it so you do more damage to unbooned targets outside of possibly PvE, not while they are catering for the casual player anyway.
Make it 5% or maybe (and only if it’s a 30 points trait) 10% and ok. With S/D dual skill specially now that it will be hitting targets and be more controllable, it would be fun I guess.
+50% damage though… if you look at all the +X% damage traits, it’s simply insane though, at least it’s refreshing to see it wasn’t Daecollo posting something so OP :P (just joking hehe don’t take it too personal).
I always hated burst/GC classes anyways. Reason being is theres RNG in it. I can’t stand RNG. Many times even with a 50%+ crit chance a vital hit needed to win will end up being a non crit and I get screwed over.
The power tree does need a buff, frankly very little in there worth taking, however this is just broken OP. 50% more dmg to 0 boon players? S/D + sigils to remove boons on crit would be insanely strong, and allow a very tanky setup aside the 30 invested in power, or make glass burst too big.
The thief may need some stuff, but this is not it.

Just make traps turn X boons into conditions (traited)
and venons strip 1 boons on application (traited)
this could improve the usefulness of some underused thief specs and utilities…
a poison/trap P/P // S/D thief could be a nice boombunker buster…
needle trap – ambush trap – thiefs guild – spider venon + venon share… ultimate boom stripping…
