It seems a bit over the top for a Thief to be able to Finish off someone in WvW/PvP while stealthed, so no one can do anything about it. I’ve done my fair share of doing this in PvP as a Thief. Both on giving it and receiving this tactic. But as of lately I feel like it just isn’t right.

IMO stability stomp and haste/frenzy stomp are much more effective. A stealth stomp if pretty obvious if you see a thief use CnD or goes into any kind of stealth at the feet of a down player.

Well anyone can finish off someone in WvW while stealthed just that thieves and mesmers can stealthed.

I do not know about you but when i see a shadow refuge on a down opponent i am like well two kills for me. However, when doing one on one well it is a pain but the thief or mesmer got the better of you so just give him the kill or try to kill a mob nearby to rally.

It’s pretty obvious when it happens. See a friend downed by a Thief who quite clearly vanishes in to stealth next to the body? Smash his invisible face in. He’s still there, you know.

Enh, I dunno. Worst case, your victim’s teammates can attack the air.

I usually don’t bother to stealth myself when stomping. Takes too long. Popping Signet of Shadows to counter your target’s interrupts works just as well against most classes (maybe not Rangers, if they have a pet, like, right there to eat you).

Invisibility =/= invulnerability

You can do plenty about it.

You still take full damage while in stealth and you need to be right next to the person so really most people should be able to tell what the thief is doing and where they are.

Regardless can’t Ele can finish someone in Mist Form? That is far worse and I think stability stomp is more powerful than stealth stomp anyway (unless the people your fighting are being dumb).

It won’t even stop many classes from interrupting your stomp from the downed state even without teammates. Like Guardian, Thief, Mesmer, Necromancer, Elementalist… I think the only ones it works against, unless they’re idiots, are Rangers, Engineers and Warriors. And that’s if you get on them right away; the Engineer and Warrior can still interrupt it if given enough time for their #2 to activate.

I don’t really understand what you mean by ‘nobody can do anything about it’. If by that you mean some e-moron can run up and faceroll their keyboard while you stand there doing a death blow then I suppose you’re right. Its awesome though when their team runs up and tries to rez without giving any though to, I don’t know, trying to do an AOE attack near the body. If the thief is at full health and they follow through with the attack, it isn’t any different than if another class stands in plain sight and does it. Frankly, these threads are getting out of hand. Anet can’t correct human stupidity, and 90% of these complaints boil right down to bad players wanting to continue to be terrible while still ‘doing well’. And OP, that’s not directed at you, just making a generality.

It’s not so hard c’mon; I don’t try PvP so much, but in WvWvW this situation is avoided by companions who can still hit the Hidden Thief, and even the Downed one (if the class you play have an aoe attack). If you’re solo.. well, Thief gonna be an hard-enemy (like it must be).
And by the way, stomp in stealth is fair enough.

I keep seeing complants about this but the truth is not only can you still attack the Thief but you know exactly where they are.

More importantly even non glass cannon Thiefs are squishy enough to get torn up by downed state attacks, to the point that if you were already damaged in the fight it can be easy to down the Thief if they just try to do a normal stomp.

Why start this AGAIN several hours before the patch.Why didn’t you wait to see if this will be addressed(or needs addressing)?
Are you a troll?
Didn’t you read like several topics about this from before?
Do we(thieves) have stability,bubble,mist form and numerous other abilities that do exactly same thing?
“No one can do anything about it”?
You as a thief didn’t you equip Shadows Embrace and thus save the friends life once every minute?

When I see this happen I pistol whip. BAM dead thief and I get to revive my ally.

You do realize that Elementalists can stomp while in Mist Form, using their ring-o-rocks (forget the name) shield for stability, or when invulnerable, right? Every class has one or more nigh-invulnerable skills that they can use while reviving. Yes, the Thief can do it while invisible, which is unique but not necessarily more powerful than others.

And yes, you can do something about it. Stealthed does not mean impervious to damage or CC.

You’ve been doing your fair share of PvP as a thief and you still believe they can’t be hurt while in stealth? There’s something odd about your post.

The point is that the downed player, as opposed to any other Profession cannot prevent, interrupt the finishing move as they can towards other Professions that cannot stealth and finish the downed player from stealth.
If you cannot see that as game breaking i really don’t know what to say. (You as a downed player cannot interrupt the finishing move so that your teammates can get the time to interact and revive you in time)

Thieves are good at stomping, no doubt about it. But “no stomp interrupt for you” really isn’t a thief-only mechanic.

Stealth & Blind are the weakest of stomp utilities but are balanced by the fact they can be done much more often then the rest.

Guardians can still knockback
Thieves can still port
Mesmers can still stealth/clone
Ele’s can still Mist Form
Rangers can daze if anything/anyone else is nearby

All of this works on stelathed players.

This would be like Thieves complaining about being able to teleport while in the stomp animation. Any class that has access to an instant port can finish a Thief without them being able to avoid it at all. Mesmers, Eles’, Guardians other Thieves etc.

And YOU are completely ignoring the fact that all those other stomp aiding abilities do the same kitten thing.
And you know, Mesmers can also stealth. In fact, they can stealth while they have a bunch of clones up so you don’t even KNOW that they stealthed. Yet here you are, on the Thief complaint bandwagon.

Stealth stomping is not OP’d. Just hit auto attack or aoe on top of your downed friend.

It’s funny you complain about stealth stomping when other classes have much better ways of stomping players.

Also, stealth reviving is way more powerful than stealth stomping and I haven’t seen anyone complain about that one yet.
