It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.

Mesmer builds that rely on stealth are as much a thing as thief builds that don’t utilize stealth.
Personally, I wish stealth was a wider-ranging mechanic. I also wish that thieves had more options instead of stealth, so that people would stop thinking the two were equivalent.

I just want people to stop relying on nerfs to make their game more enjoyable.
Lol I don’t care about nerfs i will play whats op till I can’t and for now that’s d/p with thiefs. I say let the nerfs come and I’ll play the next most op build (I gave on discussions because they don’t fix the game recently) Enjoy your stealth spamming while it lasts.
Sebrent died to a thief.
Sebrent keeps dying to thieves.
Fixed your post for you.
gotta say he IS quite passionate about breaking apart any people say in thieve’s defense :P

This is the conclusion I’ve come to as well. It’s reached the point where I just can’t shake the nagging feeling of “this build is so ridiculous, how has it not been nerfed yet”.
And so that puts me off playing my Thief. Not because Anet hates Thieves, but because this one build is so silly that it can’t possibly stay in the current state for much longer.

u guys think D/P will get busted next?
if so what should change?

He isn’t that great at it too. Forces you into technicalities and COMPLETELY avoids the topic at hand.

Being able to run away from anything is silly. The build has little to no counters and is excellent for WvW roaming. It has high sustainability, condition removal, and damage.
They can just change anything and it will be a nerf, because as it stands D/P is far too good.
Edit: I’m not saying that all of these should be nerfed, because that’s too much. What is probably going to happen is that WvW traps stop Thieves from running away when they lose.

maybe. but being able to die to ANY class in 2-3 seconds is crazy too. :P wheres the trade off?
and d/p is too good in what sense? u mean 1 v 1 or roaming to pick of strays? a build thats not changing group play or changing zerg function.
imo u wanna know the strongest skill in group play? sure its up for debate. but EPIDEMIC on necros is just amazing. aaaaaaaaamaaaaaaaaazing. no calls for nerf? that one skill makes more change to a group than any several a thief could do.

Well, in WvW that upscaled staff ele running in a big enough blob can’t really die to anything either.

I don’t mean to be condescending or negative, but you nane cracks me up every time I see it. If you were truly a master of time and space you wouldn’t complain about any class ever!
Thieves have been able run away from anything since beta. Pretty sure anet designed them this way on purpose. That’s what it means when anet says “slippery”.
Honestly, I know you play a Mesmer and that’s one of the best classes in the game.
Why does it matter if a thief runs from you? You can kitten every other class in the game and now have the highest burst dps in game.
A stated, Mesmer builds that rely on stealth are just as common as as thief builds that don’t. Take a look at SevenMirrors. He is one of the top Mesmers that employs a large amount of stealth and posts videos showing his gameplay.
It isn’t a strawman argument to point out that your list of “tons of skills that use stealth” features several skills that cannot even be used in the same build due to the skill restraints in the game. It’s a fact that diminishes the size of your list.
Mesmers often use stealth for a much different purpose than Thieves … breaking target (especially called target). This allows us to make better use of the confusing nature of combat with a Mesmer with multiple clones out.
I’m happy to see Sunflowers and Zelulose say the exact stuff that our thieves say in Teamspeak all the time.
I’m sad to see the same handful of people defending thieves by breaching the code of conduct despite being constantly advised to read it and adhere to it:
Do not engage in personal attacks against forum members or in character assassination. Posts that attack another member, that single out a player for ridicule, or that accuse someone of inappropriate in-game actions will be removed without notice.
Do please try to stay on-topic.
As far as strawman … this is a strawman:
@ Zac: It does matter that you can’t take all of those in a build. What you’re playing is that class with a set build. If the build can only fit a set amount, the skills/traits/etc. not included don’t matter.
So every other build doesn’t matter?
Why is it strawman? Because you are arguing against something that my post did not say.
I still stand by my earlier statement of:
No, that is not enough to know that it targets thieves. You guys are just jumping to wild conclusions as usual.
With zero information, the reactions that “this is to nerf thieves” are assumptions and/or wild conclusions on what the traps do and what the intention of their existence is. If you get actual information on how they function, then we can revisit those assumptions and/or wild conclusions.
Oh, I missed this…
If you look at the Related Skills and Related Traits on this wiki, you will see a very clear difference between usage within a class. Mesmers come in second by a longshot. Engies and hunters have 1 skill that stealths, 2 if they are a Norn with Become the Leopard.
Fact is, Mesmers have almost no reliance to stealth. In the shadow of anti-stealth traps, Mesmers have nothing to cry about.
Except, as I already pointed out:
Furthermore, as I and many others in this forum as well as the Mesmer forum have discussed, Mesmer has many good uses for stealth and several quite strong builds that make great use of it.
Mesmer’s often make good use of stealth when leveraging a portal bomb, giving up several utilities and/or their elite in order to stealth to a good position to drop a portal. This trap could prevent this iconic Mesmer maneuver. Compare that to Thief trolling. What has a greater impact on WvW? So which do you think the traps in WvW are intended to hit?
Lastly, a single Mesmer veil can stealth “infinitely many” allies that run through it. This allows a massive zerg to jump any point, especially with multiple Mesmers with them. Again, compare this to Thief stealth trolling. Which has a greater impact on WvW? So which do you think traps in WvW are intended to hit?
No one is crying … except those jumping to wild conclusions saying things like:
Lol.
