i dont see a single thief in..

any City
WvWvW
out in the openworld
hell even in Spvp is barely any

and even those realy few thiefs that i see all of them runing around in one single backstabb build.

are you guys all changed class or left the game or what ?

its funny going in a WvWvW and seeing only like 2 max 3 thief in a Huge group fight
and yes one of them is me lol

I like it this way. I no longer feel as if I am being lumped into the Flavor-of-the-Month-Whats-The-New-OP-Class crew.

When u have a 200 gold build with t3 divinity runes…fire sigil and bloodlust and all is backstab based…u won’t just pass throught a bug…u would be abile to play YOUR KITTEN BUILD cause Someone fixed this bug…

i Agree there are sooo many useless Traits some of them should be added to some abilities as effects when you use the ability as baseline and give some worthy traits instead of them.

With all honesty, S/P weapon set is really bad where ever you go, especially in WvW and PvP…it’s manageable in PvE, but still frustrating. Dagger off-hand is a must in any dual-wield set.

If your goal is to hit multiple target, why P/P?

As for doing less damage than Mesmer’s autoattack is subjective since it relies which damage connects and actually dealt damage. Immobile target, sure, Mesmer wins, but hardly anyone will just stand there and take damage.

people are different from eachother and have different tasts and different play-stiles, i’m senselessly happy for you and glad you are still viable but i believe i can say most thieves got they’re specs ruined in both pvp and pve…

I’m talking about x/D and D/P base specs are all ruined.
Also D/x since the trait “hidden assassin” that useto grant 100% crit chance from stealth is not working… (one of the things that got broken on last patch)

The reason I said that is because they are both channeled “beam” type attacks, and unload should hit targets that get in the way of it, that is what bullets do.

However, because of the high initiative cost and the wait time, and the fact it doesn’t even go up to par with an ‘autoattacks’ damage, and the fact its the ONLY damaging ability…

I’m gone but still lurking. For me it’s not the Thief changes (haven’t even patched) it’s the WvW update. I was hoping for a DAOC style system but they went to one that promotes zergs.

The main complaint I have is that full world XP is given to anyone who hits an enemy player. That makes it a pointless progression system that is only there for the sake of progression. If world xp was split evenly for a group and based on how much your group contributed to the kill then I’d still be playing.

The other issue is that TES online is looking very good to me and once I start to get hyped about an upcoming MMO I loose interest in my current one. Vicious cycle! Playing Borderlands 2 with my group while we wait.

There’s really not much ‘outside the box’ when it comes to DPS; in PvE specifically.
Maybe Anet just wants us to main Shortbow or something.

I wouldn’t mind a damage increase on SB since I use it just as often as my main weapons.

Most thieves run d/p or d/d. S/P is a fantastic counter to that as the dazed,lockdowns and teleports will destroy most backstabbing thieves. After the haste nerf not so much unfortunately but saying that s/p isn’t viable is just noobish.

Not so far as revamping the class itself. If the discrepancy is the damage output, no need to touch the other parts of the class.

One thing I disagree with you on is the damage. Unload deals way more damage that Mesmer’s autoattack.

Pistol’s autoattack also deals more damage due to bleeding thant Mesmer’s autoattack.

The only difference is the ability to damage multiple targets, but if that is what you want for a P/P build, then Spec for Ricochet, I guess.

IMO it is not viable in comparison to other weapon set.

What is your view on pistol whip now? The problem with PW has always been that people can just walk right out of it – and of course, the answer to that problem was haste. Now though, it seems that even the HoTM NPCs don’t have the time to wait around while I PW them at 50% speed.
So, do you simply not rely on PW at all when you play? I agree that the teleports and dazes are great, but even then, staying alive long enough to do damage is tricky for me. Avoiding damage and then timing the burst right was my playstlye before; I’m thinking that may have to change, but I’d still like to try to play the S/P thief. So, all powerful S/P one, got any advice for me?

I wouldn’t say that, as Pistol Whip still does quite a bit of damage. Although, delivering it successfully against a skilled player who doesn’t want to stand in it is another issue.

S/P has no stealth, so you can’t get the daze from Tactical Strike unless you count a rare, long cooldown utility ability stealth here and there. Head Shot is situationally useful, but you definitely can’t lock someone down with a 0.25s daze at 4 ini per pop. D/P has the same thing available, too. If your intent is to lock someone down, S/D is better at it.

As for tournament play… A skilled player can make pretty much anything work. And you could make an argument that stealth builds are bad for s/tPvP regardless because they can’t contest points effectively. That makes weaponsets like S/P and P/P a lot more attractive than they otherwise would be if you take that viewpoint. The huge problem remaining is if you’re running those weaponsets for tPvP, you shouldn’t even be running a thief in the first place. You’d contribute more to your team if you ran a different class like warrior using greatsword or rifle – and have a lot more build options while doing it.

Too many people convinced backstab lol builds are the only damage. Prior to the haste nerf s/p was emerging in high level tourny play because of the burst and ability to lock down specific targets. I loved completely destroying the other teams thief every time because they couldn’t compete against the advantages of s/p. Alas the nerf to haste was massive against the build so unfortunately it’s a lot less viable now.
