Anet: Revert Shadow Return
And by the way, for any people that start spouting “shadow return has infinite range” it does not. You have 14 seconds to shadow return.
Whether you thought it was “overpowered” in it’s previous form is not the point. Anet should realize this was a big hit to thief mobility, and revert it and work from there.

It’s not overpower, but I’ll tell you why it was ner….Changed.
I was outside a keep and about 20 players from my server watched me teleport back and forth behind a group of 30 people that continued to chase me. At one point I made them chase me down so far that when I returned I got a loading screen.
Now, who’s fault is that? The enemy players for trying too hard to kill me that are mad? Or ArenaNet’s for not knowing the difference between “original location” and “return” and using more logic behind the ability as a life saver? D/D and D/P don’t rely on SR, S/P relies on it because S/P doesn’t utilize stealth like D/D or D/P.
Mind you: I was never able to kill any of them, they were never able to kill me.
Oh, and don’t forget D/P can’t spam stealth even more while using Black Powder. S/P got the shaft, once again.
My problem with the change is this: 1200 is their way of saying — you’re now in range of every class that ranges from here on out. Goodbye.
1800 would have been better, but that’s just my logical brain working. I have one of those.
It doesn’t need to be reverted to infinite range.
What it needs is for IS to be a “shadowstep” (requires a path), and for SR to be a “teleport” (does not require a path) to prevent kittenty pathing from denying the full return distance.

I see no reason for concern. Thieves have a lot of room for adaptation. There are numerous threads about that.
This is unlike other MMOs where classes really don’t have room to change.

So much QQ in this thread lol. It got a needed fix, move on.
The range fix is fine. Now, the fact that it can plant a Thief into the terrain (like Mesmer Phase Retreat used to do) … that needs fixed. evilapprentice’s idea would be sufficient if implemented.
