Descent of Shadows: This trait’s effect can now only trigger once every 8 seconds.
Looks like we are going to be nerfed every patch some how, but why was this even nessessary? Now it will be much harder getting around quickly but it won’t make a single difference in getting away, and people who were using it to get int back by moving around in a circle was kind of dumb anyways.
Can we please nerf everyones -50% falling damage traits to also be 8 seconds now?
((P.S. At this rate we can say we’ve been getting nerfed every patch!))
Can we please change it so the BLINDING POWDER portion of it has an 8 second cooldown, but you passively take -50% falling damage?

Are you really falling off of cliffs/ledges/walls/towers more than once every 8 seconds?
Does it make the -50% reduction happen only once?
I know for the Stealth effect, people could stack it over and over at the right spots, giving them a long time in stealth after falling. So I’d say it’s working as intended, as long as every other class’s fall abilities are the same way now.
This is just a band-aid fix to prevent stealth stacking. The REAL issue is that you take falling damage several times on a single fall, but they’re taking their sweet time fixing that one.
Why are people over-reacting to this balance changes? All you see is “AMGHERED SOMETHING ON THE THIEF IS WEAKER TIME TO GO COMPLAIN!”
Try to think about the given changes and realize that they have had good reason for these changes. This change is good because being able to constantly drop Blinding Powder again and again and again is ridiculously powerful because of it’s blind effect. Consider that Mesmers could use Portal Entre and have a Thief run through it to repeatedly drop these.
These are not “kneejerk” reactions – these are changes that they spend a lot of time deliberating on.
The fall damage reduction isn’t limited by the 8s, just retested in a more consistent location.

Pretty sure they made stealth cap at 23s. There are ways you can perma stealth yourself and 5 others, but the stealth caps at 23s.

this change seems to be related primarily to a weird bug/exploit for when people would fall down cliffs in alot of small steps and end up triggering this ability like 5 times in a row and getting 30 or more of stealth.
under normal circumstances (say, jumping down from a wall) you would only ever get 1 trigger anyway, and have no realistic way to perform this more than often then ever 8 seconds.
they just fixed a bug basically. this is not a power level adjustment (aka nerf) of any kind.

To reiterate, they didn’t fix the bug, they fixed one of the symptoms. The bug is taking falling damage 20 times off a single fall, and that remains unfixed.
I actually kind of welcome this change because the rapid blinding powder puffs killed my fps for a couple seconds, but they really need to fix the underlying issue instead of the symptom.
Let’s avoid drama-queen posts like this. No one who understands this ability thinks it’s a nerf.
If you complain about this “nerf” then by all means, reroll or quit. That’s just stupid.
I wonder if they will also fix the necros falling ability and add a cooldown to it. I hated those necros that abused that. (When you fall you put out a cloud of poisonus smoke with a pretty large aoe) in WvW towers they just jump down off the side and poof, then run back up and jump down again, poof. The cloud lasts a while and its damage stacks. I cant count how many times i run into a cloud thats actually like 4-5 clouds hitting like 4-5 times a second (around 800ish damage per hit)

I rerolled guardian. Now I can laugh at thief nerfs and I feel ZERO incentive to log on my thief. Guardian is that much better.
love the ele exploit vid, sadly HS spam is both nerfed, and indicative of “kitten” design and the part he misses is that despite his ire towards it, he’s only executing already doomed players in pvp,
by all means balance thieves in pvp away from that kinda stuff like HS spam but GIVE US PVE OPTIONS! jesus….
