first of all, for a build to be “decent” you gotta learn how to play it. also, each game mode favors different playstyles. i guess you’re looking for a pve/dungeon build?
for casual solo pve, i would recommend something stealth-focused (i can give more details if you are interested), for dungeons i am personally using a venom share build (and a slightly different version for pvp), which works really well with “stacking” tactics and generally provides a lot of damage support.

Dire perplexity build. Can also work quite well with krait runes using basilisk venom for the elite and caltrops instead of scorpion wire.

^rabid ring is actually Plague Signet, not yet listed in GW2 skills database

For PvP you’re gonna want to swap out Signet of Shadows for Shadowstep, and the same thing goes for if you want to fight anyone with heavy cc in WvW. Otherwise, for WvW and general PvE, the 25% speed boost is legit.

If you’re really set on doing a power/crit build but want the extra survivability, you probably want to look at either a dodge-centric S/D build, or consider D/P using full valkyrie/sentinel with hidden killer and signets of intelligence to give 100% crit.

PvE is simple, the meta D/D S/P and SB is the best DPS and survivability shouldn’t be a problem with perma blind on mobs, I don’t have any problem and I rarely play Thief in PvE.

In sPvP you are kinda stuck with again .. meta but there is worst because beside those very few builds work and have to be very, VERY well played to work

In WvW, meh, you can go Cancer that uses condi damage in full dire, you can go suicidal in almost full zerker, both use almost the same traits (2/0/6/0/6 is the trait composition most common in both Zerkers and Condi users) main difference is that most Zerkers go with D/D, D/P, S/D and condi goes with only P/D, SB is mandatory in almost everything

Wouldn’t call it cancer either, more like STD, you can have a slightly different strain, yet you still spread condis around.

It’s not a qualified meta cause it’s an easy counter able build if people put little effort into learning about it…

Does the meta prefer perplex P/D over zerking D/P backstabing? I see two camps of people on the forums and I can’t tell who is TELLING ME THE TRUTH! I just want to be the best little roaming pain I can be!

Since you are most likely new go with P/D Perplex

In WvW both are viable but one is harder to play than the other

Alright, Did some research but I’m at another crossroads. I’m curious for perplex roamer P/D do I want to stack celestial gear or Dire gear?

Also, if you’re asking which can kill the other, it’s a bit of a tossup. I run perplexity, and it’s wicked hard to take out a good d/p stealth thief due to the innate cleanse and crazy blind/stealth mitigation. That said, it’s nigh impossible for them to kill me due to high armor, health pool, healing, interrupt, confusion/torment, gap creation from shadow strike, and my own (less frequent) mitigation.

So.. as with most thief v thief fights, barring perhaps fights between condi and sword builds, its quite a lot like playing battleship. -_-

Best part is you actually think that a duel proves that your build is useful and that you aren’t a waste of time in a CONQUEST 5v5 game mode – the key word here is CONQUEST – where stealth is a liability

A condi perplex thief should be running Dire, maybe some pieces of celestial or carrion mixed in but your main stat that you should be stacking is CONDITION DAMAGE

Healing Power and Crit Chance are not going to be of much use to you not to mention the superior durability of Dire because of Toughness/Vitality

yeah, i guess dropping everyone on a point in a few seconds through shared damage really is quite the liability… also, the fact that it’s a venom SHARE build should already tell you that it’s not 1v1 focused (and not really stealth focused either), but if you just want to downtalk my build without making an effort to understand it, let’s just end this discussion cuz it’s no fun.
Edit: also i didn’t write anything about wanting to duel you. i wrote “fight” which could mean showing you my build in a ranked match as well.

at least now you’re giving some reasons. since your “last post” includes questions, here’s the reply:
1) i call it “my” build, because it differs from what i have seen in venom share builds on sites like metabattle. of course i’m not the first one to run something like this.
2) i’ve been playing since the beta, though i was never very interested in competitive play. i’ve only been trying around with pvp recently, but i don’t see how that decreases the worth of what i have to say, since our discussion was simply about “does this build work or not”.
3) it might be “known” that venom-share sucks, but it’s not a fact, at least not after the changes that came with the last few patches.
4) i don’t know about “top level competition”, but that was never the topic. i’m talking normal ranked pvp. and yes, “my” build doesn’t include stunbreakers, which is an issue, but not a large one. i have enough toughness to survive most initial bursts and the blind+invisibility from blinding powder help me get away after that (IF i get hit). also, you forget “withdraw”, which i can use every 15 seconds.

first you don’t wanna duel me because i use shadow arts, then you tell me i’m useless if not surrounded by teammates? that’s some great reasoning.
