I’m from Australia and with the difference in latency I’m wondering whether it’s worth trying to master the Thief class. Is it very harsh on latency compared to other ones? Are there any successful Australian thieves (and by successful I mean high rated in spvp and able to do mostly what american thieves do on 10ms).

I don’t have a high rating, but I don’t have any problems playing PvP on any of my characters, including my Thief. The latency is barely noticeable.

I don’t know of any names off the top of my head but I would check with the guild Unreal Aussies [uA], from my experience they are all very solid Australian players.

I’m from NZ, my latency can get REALLY bad with 5-7sec delays in skill activations. I don’t see much thieves from uA and if I do, I barely remember em. Doesn’t take much to be a good thief in WvW, in sPvP I never see uA in there.

uA is the only aussie/nz guild I know of in all GW2 lol.

These three below are all Aus/NZ based guilds. There are a few others. I play for Nocturnal. I main a thief. I don’t really do sPvP all that much as I find it rather boring. I mostly only WvW.

I started playing thief last year while I was still in college in the United States. I moved to India in January this year, and believe me, it’s much, much harder to play a thief properly in tPvP. If you picked up the class yet, I would highly recommend not going for this one. The only reason I’m still playing a thief is because it’s what I love and have somewhat mastered. I’m in the top 200 solo queue, but haven’t done team queues very much due to the latency issue.

What class would be OK to play with high latency?

What class would be OK to play with high latency?

At the moment bunker warrior and Guardian are the most forgiving.

I can see spirit ranger and necro being pretty solid in high latency too. Basically spam evades on CD for spirit ranger.

Hmmm, the point is to evade important abilities, with high latency by the time you dodge in reaction to what you see on screen it is too late. I think ranged classes in general might be a bit more forgiving though because with melee you might be hitting on screen but the enemy is not actually in range (makes C&D hard to land).

Well with the ranger you have perma-vigor, and if you’re running the meta spirit build with sb, s/d, you’ll have access to about 5(?) skill evades, as well as 3 immediate dodge-rolls (with energy sigil that is meta), and perma vigor. All of your evades are on an 8-16 second cd, so they’re almost always available when you swap sets. That being said, if you’re not spamming ‘most’ of your evades then you’re wasting them and taking unnecessary damage. Of course you’d be better to save some clutch dodges for combos and big skills.

Thanks for all the great replies I’ll mess around with both my 80 ele and thief and just see how i feel. I can definitely notice the latency more on thief though so that is why I was asking to see how others felt. Still strikes me as odd that games like swotr and dota 2 can setup aussie servers but other big name companies don’t give a kitten lol

I don’t have good luck with condi rangers. Basically Im finding lag tends to effect movement skills to the point where they are bugged and dont work. This goes for stuff like ranger sword and greatsword and others. I find Necro to be completely fine and forgiving because it mostly comes down to positioning and making sure your not CCd. Clerics guardians are pretty good and even though warriors do have some movement skills, they are an easy class to play and very forgiving.
