Hi, my thief is about to hit 80 in a couple days and I’m wondering what the recommended armor build for a dual dagger and dual pistol should ideally be. I want damage to be my primary role but I also want to be able to survive dungeons without teammates constantly having to pick me up. I’ve been looking at berserkers and rampage armor and I wonder what experienced thieves consider to deal more damage. I’m also wondering whether its a good idea to plug in some knights or something that gives a greater chance of surviving the big hits.

In short, it is really up to you. I would recommend having a fair amount of berserkers armor if you want to be damage oriented, it can’t really hurt to mix in some knights if you want some more survivibility but honestly I have never needed it. I went berserkers all the way and I do just fine. stealth is your friend, and know when to drop back to range and when it is okay to go melee. Good luck!

When I first started running dungeons on my thief I used Knights gear with valkyrie upgrades. I also traited into Acrobatics for an extra dodge. That made the transition from my guardian a lot easier and I still did quite good damage, now I run usually with a full berserker setup.

A “Hi, I’m new to dungeons and learning” goes farther then new armor to improving your experience. Gw2lfg.com is your friend.

While some will insist on full berserker armor, others will say play what you want. At this time I think it would be silly to not have a full berserker set if you are trying to run as many dungeons as possible. I also think it would also be silly to only have a full berserker set.

I suggest having a few pieces you can swap in from other sets, and be aware of which style of run you are joining. Condition damage is fine for one character in the party, but at 2 or more players you tend to step on each others toes with it.

If the party advertisement asks for full berserkers, wear the full berserkers for that party, or just don’t join that party.

WvW Armor and Weapons, and Temple gear in Orr can be quite affordable as entry level 80 Exotics. Stat choices are limited though.

Hi, seeing as you are a fresh 80 I would suggest 1/2 Beserker and 1/2 Soldiers.

Beserker-Shoulders, Gloves, Boots
Soldiers- Head, Chest, Legs

This will give you a balance and as you learn the basics of a dungeon and find you aren’t having any trouble at all you can replace the Soldiers gear with Beserker

In the end from my experience you will live or die by the dodge and not the armor. So that is why I suggest eventually going full beserker once you know what you are doing

For GW2 I find “The best defense is a good offense”

A victor gives no quarter when the victor shows no clemency or mercy
and refuses to spare the life in return for the surrender at discretion (unconditional surrender)
of a vanquished opponent.

Just geared my thief too and this is what I ended up using. If you want some more HP/armor, mix in some Cavalier/Valkyrie/PVT

Also note that I use this build when I run with friends, not sure how it will work in PUG’s

Hello darkness, my old friend.
