Since the beginning, I’ve only been able to find 2 types of chest piece. The one you get at the beginning of the game… and the coat. I’ve been wearing the same kind of coat since lvl 10 and I’m now lvl 33. Is it me or there is some creativity missing in the chest piece?
I mean, the look was cool at first, but I’m starting to ask myself if I’ll ever find something else.
Tell me, will I be able to see something else soon?
Do you find that there is some creativity missing for the look of armor at low lvl? I can’t speak for heavy or cloth wearer, but for us, medium armor… it’s kinda boring after wearing the samething for over 20 lvls, dont you think?
Well there are all sorts of variations within those chest piece and coat options.
For example, my Thief uses a sort of clean trench coat that reaches down to his ankles. It’s completely smooth, has no buttons or straps, and just has a thin bandolier across the chest at a 45 degree angle. I found this graphic on a lvl 11 karma piece. While I can make my own “coat” pieces, each one is different from the one that I like. They may have an outer belt piece, reach only down to my knees, have ruffles, or even buttons. My point is that while we have a “coat” graphic, it’s actually kind of a nit picky subject with lots of room for variation.
Having said all of that, I do agree with you Psychomaniack. For pretty much any class that’s 30th and below, I’ve often felt like I didn’t have enough options. It’s only once you hit the 40’s and 50’s that you start to see some variety. Then once you get into the 80th level armor pieces, there’s tons of variation. I know that ArenaNet wants your visual appearance to be one of your end game goals, but I have still prefered a little more variety in the lower levels.

Don’t forget to check the heart NPCs after filling a heart. Once you get to level 15+, they typically all sell green armor and items that tend to have unique looks compared to dropped gear you might find on the trading post.
If you don’t want to waste that much karma, you can buy the blue versions from the heart merchants as well, which will have lesser stats but still have the same look.
The starting armor, that fancy jacket with trousers you get from the personal story (Duelist), the “Bettletun” coat with a shirt underneath and a strap (Rogue), the “studded” plain bulky looking armor, the coat with a sweater underneath (Swindler) and that weird looking coat (Outlaw).
Seems like you have found more than me. I loved the coat at first, but I’m now tired of seeing it.
And seeing the same color since starting wearing it. I havent found any good looking dyes so far. Seems like I’m lucky with the pinks one or the light green/blue, which doesnt fit with my character. :S
Anyway, I guess than in 8 silver, everything will be better! :p
