Hyperboles abound. They stated their intention in the SOTG, and it was a good one. Thief burst is too good. Thief everything else is poor. That means the only way to effectively play a thief was to be a glass cannon. Therefore, they’re nerfing their burst and boosting other things. It’s what they should do.
Also, consensus is that Mug was OP.
they really arent boosting other things yet…..i mean larcenous is …..nice…but it doesnt make up for the last 20 nerfs. :P it doesnt even make up for the SB nerf.
To your knowledge condi mesmer and ele were nerfed badly in this path.
If it was changed, then it means, it wasn’t supposed to be the way it was. Dealing 6+6+10k within 1sec was just too much with basicly no space to counter it.
Personally I’ve got hit for 5.5k by Mug while having 2947amor.
But if in your opinion, only viable build was mainly mug based, it shows you weren’t any good in the first place.

Just because you are only able to use a burst build, doesn’t mean that non-burst builds do not exist.
If you choose to funnel everything into one huge lump of burst, it’s your problem that the burst is dodged. Thieves already have the highest burst in the game, and the Mug nerf was meant to tone that down. This is because if the target doesn’t have a stun breaker, or have split-second reaction times, he’s dead.

@LERT…..i only got the combo off 50% of the time when i used it. and anet is giving it to allt he WHINERS. bc the d/d burst was fun but IT SUCKED bc you would die in zerg play. since 1 v 1 doesnt change anythign and if ur out in wvw by yourself running solo you should expect to play a dueling class. dont go play one thats not particularly good at 1 v 1. cmon. even if steal did 10k on average…..thief had to wait 60 secs for everythign to recharge and do it agian. thieves sacrificed their ….defense…..sustained dmg….. CC skills….. boons…….heals………and conditions all for a big burst. so if u lose 5 things to gain 1 really good thing………..whats the problem? u know? and even that one good thing doesnt score poitns or kill more than 1 person. killing one person then runnign changes no odds/ratio in wvw or spvp. so it changes nothing :P
Actually, I played the instagib mug spec for a few hours, got bored and started trying other specs, all of which I liked more. Burst users with nothing else left? What about stealth, mobility, blinds etc.? Really, just because we can wear dual daggers and are called thiefs doesn’t mean that we are bound to use a standard burst spec that is almost as predictable as a 100blades burst warrior in PVP. Besides that, I woulnd’t really call this a nerf. We lost some damage, gained some survivability via the heal, seems fair to me.
Why is everyone always so kitten at every change? Last patch we asked them to undo the revealed to 4 secs nerf in PVE, and they did that. The only things I am upset about this patch is the completely uncalled for SB nerf and the fact that warrior still isn’t seeing any nerfs PVE wise.

I know right, obviously Ride the Lightning (edit: or just D/D eles in general) was too strong in zergs, so it was nerfed. Totally not because it was too strong at 1v1.

gotta say EVERY class hits thieves as if they were GC themselves (regardless of build)
not just that…..u dont need split second reaction time. u need about 2.5 seconds or more……CND+BS alone took a second each to do. if u cant respond by the time uve been CND’d then ur just not going to cut it against a 2 v 1 or 3 v 1. ur dead just as fast if not faster. u gotta have a stun break hotkeyed. mine is ….and i respond in less than .5 seconds or 1 second if im not paying attention. and my stun break is a ground target….takes 2x longer than most.

Oh mr/mrs smarty pants and how much does it take? Oh and u should tone down ur egoboosting. I`m sure that, based on the general display of your ignorance i`ve just witnessed , i could play whatever profession u play just as or even better than you. ATM the least bit of effort involved to win is with a mesmer closely followed by ele and necro. It`s casual clicking and dodging while conditions and clones do all the work. I`m betting you`re an ele. Amirite? How`s that keyboard mashing with one hand while knitting a pair of socks with the other?
Thieves are a burst class with nothing left once u strip that away. Ur obviously incapable to grasp the concept that a high risk/high reward profession that`s artificially, agonizingly converted into something else will be the punching bag of the more stable ones. The devs are at the break anything that`s good part. I`m guessing that the beefing up part will come much later, if ever.
And no, thieves have burst and burst only AND some evasive tools. Tell me oh master of everything pvp: what can i do with anything else than a burst spec? Cloak and cloak some more while i hug my zerg? Seems hypocritical to state that thieves burst was op since a mesmer can do what a thief can while having his back guarded by an army of clones.

from first activating CND to the end animation of BS….yes…mighty close….just like trick shot says .25 seconds but is like 1.15 from start of activation to end of animation (arrow actually leaving bow)

Mug was EXACTLY how it was meant to be. We are burst users with nothing else left once u take that. Thieves, at least according to my philosophy, strike first and strike hard and then retreat. But noooo mug dealt just too much dmg, the only other damage spike skill left is backstab which honestly it needed mug to stack up a nice amount of hurt. The way ppl compensated was easy: equip a kitten stun breaker and ur safe since mug almost always came with basilisk venom as a follow up.
Thank u ANET, logged in once after 3 months, your blind hate towards this profession soured things for me yet again. All is right in the universe now, but please devs remember to buff up mesmers and eles, it`s nice when ur so impartial with the player base.

The thief burst build you are discussing here is [Hotkey for Basilisk venom] [Hotkey for Assassin’s signet] 5 f1 1. Three move burst.
The entire execution takes not 2-3 seconds. The actual reaction time afforded to the player that you are murking is .5-1 seconds depending on how long you wait before you use steal while channeling C&D. If you aren’t terrible, you can time it right to get their reaction time to just above .5 seconds by using steal as late into the C&D channel as possible. Standard human reaction time is 1/3 of a second, they have .33 seconds to react, and then 1/6 of a second to stunbreak and dodge or eat the backstab.
That’s remembering the order of five keys, right, ignoring reactive play. And you’re complaining that mesmers and eles dont take skill to play, simplifying their class mechanics to “Clones dodge and shatter” and “Spam the right skills”. On paper it sounds easy, but if you think it actually is you’ve got another thing coming.
Also I’m neither mez nor ele main, my main is arguably one of if not the most faceroll class there is to play, and I can admit that. (No, not talking about thief)
