Im going to make a thief but when i play a thief, I want to do that…. With style!
So which race got the nicest looking thieves if the options are Human, Sylvari and Asura

I thought Asura was great for being a small assassin, but telegraphed attacks are really annoying if you’re so small. I recommend doing for Human or Sylvari just for the size alone.

Should i do Human or Sylavri then? Which one suits better with the Medium armors?
personally, i’ve had people stop me to compliment my (human) thief’s look. the only racial armor is the T3 mask, but i don’t think the set would be nearly as effective with any other mask.
No one else really cares what your character looks like so decide if you want to minimize your animations or not. I liked the idea of a small sneaky assassin so I went with asura but I was also keen on maximizing my advantage.

Asura are ok but due to their size weapons are reeeeeally small.
Norn at the smallest size is about the same size as the tallest human.
Sylvari have a kind of stiff running animation which got on my nerves not to mention I hate their voice. But style wise they are really cool and pretty similar to humans; they do however have or appear to have a larger frame around their waist I always found armor seemed a bit frumpy looking when I made one compared to the human model.
I wouldn’t suggest making character to different from the “default” size. Weapons’ size doesn’t scale and if you, for example, make a small norn, many weapons will either look huge (although if ypu go for bows, I suggest small norn, big looks like a man with a stick instead of shortbow) or totally clip, even into the ground.
That’s said, the best “lore” for the Thief is….. Charr actually.
People tend to forget that the Ash Legion gives you nice personal story, background and there’s no other racial organization comparable really. So, Charr!
Human norn. Bearded. Tall as you can make him. Nothing will ever match up to 400 pounds of viking rage spinning through the air with a pair of cheese knives.
Personally I went with asura and my two complaints are:
1) The class just doesn’t fit their stories
2) Any effort you put into your armor will only ever be 1/4 as noticeable as the other races.
Seriously. Nothing says stealth like norn.

I find that asura t3 cultural weapons fits them nicely and are decent in size unlike most of weapon sets on asura characters. Second pic: t3 dagger vs molten pistol which is cool but not on asura. Unfortunately i spent all my karma and cant change it yet :S
Iv made numerous thief characters, ranging from norn to human, but my first thief character was a sylvari and i always go back to it. Iv made numerous looks for my character, even a caithe lookalike kit, but heres what im rolling right now:
Human: females look hot as hell, nothing else to say about them. Males look pretty cool/kitten. By far the best cultural armor for thieves.
Sylvari: the fact that you can make them dark is awesome enough. Couple this with the glow they have at night it’s pretty cool as a thief. Ok looking cultural for thief.
Asura: small, looks really cool when they do certain attacks because of their size (pistol whip looks amazing!). The back/front flips and other animations fits the profession. Most medium armor skins look like crap on asuras, unfortunately.
Look up some youtube videos of all the races as a thief. Also take a look at gw2armor.com to see the different armors.
