Its funny when you look at the first page of this subforum and its mostly “nerfs” or “op” yet looking at the Mesmer or warrior forums its “need help with build” or “why you should play this build” or other friendly advice.

Thief is not horrible, but they are no where NEAR the top of the ladder and people still complain. I feel bad for the creator of “stealth” archetype classes, I really do. Your work will never be truly polished without a bunch of nagging babies wailing their inability to L2P so dev’s have no choice but to respond with the all mighty nerf hammer. I give it a couple more months before the nerfs for us get so far out of hand that we have no choice but to move onto a new profession. sigh when will the hate stop? We don’t have the highest anything except stealth uptime, which does little in a game with growing knowledge to stealth counters forcing you to either full retreat or pick your next steps very carefully because you can’t afford another mistake. Lyssa forbid a warrior step into a collusion of wells and fight on it, he might just regen past it and remove those conditions like an onion layer.

i think the true problem is anet isnt letting us stay strong in our niche. we dont have a strong roll in team play which is 99% of this game. they should let thieves enjoy totally owning on 1v1 scenarios. not make them godly. just kinda like they were before. 8 months ago. before mug nerf. there were good but still didnt change much.

To define the argument from fallacy (or what we have affectionately been calling the fallacy fallacy) from Wikipedia...

Argument from fallacy is the formal fallacy of analyzing an argument and inferring that, since it contains a fallacy, its conclusion must be false.1 It is also called argument to logic (argumentum ad logicam), fallacy fallacy,2 fallacist’s fallacy,3 and bad reasons fallacy.4
Fallacious arguments can arrive at true conclusions, so this is an informal fallacy of relevance.5

And

It has the general argument form:
If P, then Q.
P is a fallacious argument.
Therefore, Q is false.6
Thus, it is a special case of denying the antecedent where the antecedent, rather than being a proposition that is false, is an entire argument that is fallacious. A fallacious argument, just as with a false antecedent, can still have a consequent that happens to be true. The fallacy is in concluding the consequent of a fallacious argument has to be false.

Oh my god the amount of drama queens on these boards is nauseating.

People seem to instinctively switch to “I must protect my class” mode when they see the letters “op” posted any where here on these boards. This is the same amount of drama and QQ that acted as if December 10th was a massive nerf, when in reality it changed very little (and even buffed some things).

It’s ridiculous that you can’t have a reasonable a dispassionate debate about an ability without having the listen to all this kitten whining from people who can’t be reasonable about their class. I never even asked for a nerf. I main a Thief 98% my play-time, I have over 2000 hours invested in him, including 2 Legendaries.

I merely think that an ability that grants us roughly 90% melee-damage mitigation and is night-spamable due to our class-mechanics is a little overpowered in a lot of situations. Not all, but a lot.

I don’t know if it needs or if it even should be changed. But I’m not sure if it was intended by the designers for us to have practical immunity from both normal and veteran mobs while using a single skill on cooldown. It would probably be fine it Thieves had cooldowns, but they don’t.

Anyway, since reasonable debate is not to be found here I will have to find it elsewhere.

Black Powder is the only way a thief have in this moment to stay alive more than 3 seconds vs Warriors or burst classes in general

i love d/d and i dont really like to play with a pisto as Thief, but without BP is really impossible to manage melee damage

DJ stop trying to cause problems. It’s already been said too many times, there are multiple ways to counter bp:

Go ranged
Stand at the edge of the circle and still hit the thief
Use a fast attack like pistol whip to mostly negate the blind (it reapplies pretty slowly)
warrior stance
engineer condi immunity at 25%
ele condi immunity at 90%

OR OR OR get this….. stand outside of the bp and wait for the thief come to you. You can contest every single point in spvp while also staying out of BP’s radius, all the while letting your cd’s come off cooldown. So what again is the problem? Good players don’t have problems with this and they laugh at the idea that it grants ~90% melee damage reduction. Think man!

For pve: pve is easy mode boring so who cares if you have a strong skill there? They already scaled bosses so that blind has reduced effectiveness anyways.

In summary: BP gives 100% melee damage reduction against heartseeker spammers and guardians/warriors that stand in the middle of the BP the entire time without knowing that it’s blinding them.

Cheers!
