It is based on bleeding and stealth.

I post this to have some feedback what would you change in this build.

I hesitate on Pistol/Dagger + Shortbow vs PP & DD

My opener is caltrops + steal (to drop them on the target) + sneak Attack (pistol from stealth).

Ok lets say PvE for now. If you got 0/0/20/20/30 you dot get all that much from the 20 in acrobatics beside more health. Going 30 in shadow arts opens up heal in stealth plus 15 seconds might in stealth and might does effect condition damage. In my build im 0/0/30/10/30 to open those up.

Your build looks focused on stealing. You can steal Every 31.5 seconds which is not often at all. To add to this all the traits you have in stealing you miss aoe blindness on stealth, remove condition on stealth, caltrops on dodge, 7% chance extra initiative on first skill, and flanking as options. Imho its too much to give up for a skill on 31.5 second cd.

As far as P/P goes personally I prefer P/D and here’s why. You don’t need unload as your build is condition your spamming attack one and every other skill is to help you spam attack one faster and better. Second Sneak attack need stealth and your quickest access to stealth is cloak and dagger with a dagger off hand. You don’t use much initiative so if your timing is good ( and it doesn’t have to be if you have blind on stealth) you can basically spam this off reveal cool down. Third in some situations where you want to steal what ever get in and gt away and an evade wont cut it shadow strike will port you away faster than the roll and much farther. Bonus dancing daggers plus caltrops and circle kiting = lol win vs melee mob groups.

Support skills um here what you have imho is fine except I would carry shadow refuge over blinding powder in PvE because it has more utility or both for dungeons and Dagger Storm or Thieves Guild over venom in all situations.

As far as runes go I would take Vitality over Toughness but keep condition damage and and bleed duration over all because you really don’t need to swap weapons with this type of build but you do need to keep your stacks up.

I use 0/0/20/20/30 mainly for fleet of foot for pvp.

But I’ll try a 0/0/30/10/30 with your suggestions to compare.

Ok the fleet of foot thing. I had thought about this myself tried it and hated it for good reason. In PvP I dodge big attacks and to run away or gain mobility (Expeditious Dodger). The thing is that means I like to keep my endurance as long as I can I when i do use it frugally. FoF only removes cripple and weakness and its on a 10sec cd. Shadow’s Embrace removes one condition once you enter stealth and another if you stay in 3 secs with the trait. That’s 1 sec before it runs out. Combine this with Hide in Shadows which removes burning, poison, and bleeding, and you have just covered the likely gambit of what was on you. If you want to be a real pain let stealth run out naturally miss the revealed debuff and enter it again you just removed anything that you could have had on you and you have a regen buff the entire time. This also means you don’t burn your shadow Step cd for conditions. This plus a condition necro = a very funny story.

For PvP in Shadow Art I want to keep VIII (Hidden Thief) as it permits to go on contact in stealth while casting caltrops or other long casting ability. For the last trait I don’t know how to choose between XI & IV (regen or remove condition).

In Trickery I want to keep V to give a 10s swiftness bonus to my team-mates and me.

And hat comes down to the difference in play style between P/D + Short bow and P/P + D/D. With P/Dagger I keep trickery 12 the 1 sec daze and just cast C&D which puts me in stealth anyways then if I want to caltops (but I don’t use it in PvP cast time is way to long and the other players going to be moving anyways) When I did though I never had an issue.

The whole thing is when I do steal its for the utility. Mesmers (Save yourself buff) Warriors (Death spin) and Thieves (extra stealth) are my usually targets. If not those I only use to close in on the target unexpectedly and set up C&D again.

With any other build I could see the value of the 2 seconds actually 3 seconds of stealth. If you stay P/P + D/D I could see marginally help with initiative as you burn it for DB.

That’s P/D with a S/P swap. Most people don’t quite agree with the 30 in trickery, but daze on steal is simply too good to go without for the way I play it. Its basically a free C&D, no questions asked, which usually translated to a free Sneak Attack as well. It also turns steal in to a clutch interrupt, and the extra condition damage really helps capitalize on the condition duration increase from deadly arts. Not only that, the damage boost from 25 trickery turns C&D in to a pretty nice chunk of damage.

The rest of the build is constructed around a slightly burstier condition damage setup, prioritizing lowering the cost of C&D and keeping initiative high. While its certainly capable of blowing a lot of initiative in an attack chain, I find that the sustain this setup gives me is far more preferable, ensuring I always have a lot of defensive or offensive tools at my disposal while making use of C&D + Sneak attack for the bulk of the damage.

The P/D swap is for opening fights when steal is down, blind-spamming with C&D + Tactical strike, and otherwise being annoying and hard to kill if the fight turns sour and my defensive cooldowns are gone.

“Buy why poison?”
Poison’s damage pales in comparison to bleed, but its real utility is the extra might stacking and weakness combined with poison’s heal reduction. It ends up being a really versatile skill that works well as an opener, or as something to hold back until later in the fight and used defensively for survival. Not only that, in multitarget situations combining that poison with a quick spam of dancing daggers adds a good bit of extra mayhem before unleashing the dagger storm.

All in all I like this build a lot. Unlike a lot of different things I tried, I don’t feel like my thief is stuck with “blow all cooldowns and be useless for 40 seconds”

It works pretty well, I have a better survivability than with my previous one (Thanks TheGuy).

I use P/D + D/P.

The D/P 3 permits to go on dagger range with blindness active, it permits a good opening with : D/P 3 + P/D 5 + P/D 1.
With Geomancy Sigil it also apply bleeds on switch.

D/P 3 also permits a pretty good mobility to evade melee or chase a caster or ranger.

D/P also offer the healing reduction poison, and a daze.

So I use mostly P/D but D/P offer some good occasional utilities.

P/D, I get a lot of utility from stealth (blind / condition removal / heal) .

I use short bow on weapon swap for AoE / Blast Combos / Mobility
