Posted to the mesmers, but wanted to see the thiefy take too:
I was using my P/D thief main in WvW this weekend and noticed I’m having a much easier time against mesmers. I’m attributing it to the immobilize/vulnerability on the tweaked Body Shot (pistol #2). It seems to me that laying 2 conditions on top of my bleed stack, with one being immobilize, is fairly lethal.
Are you guys seeing this from our side of the matchup?
The only rough time I had of it in a 1v1 involved the mesmer popping a very hilariously timed Mirror. Most of the time, the Body Shot spam (1.75 sec immob) got people to tear through their condition clears, and that was that.
_
It was also great to run down stragglers for the zerg. Infiltrators Arrow / Shadowstep and then pop a Body Shot.
A spammable immobilize seems to be the greatest thing since Spam. I wouldn’t be surprised if they upped the initiative cost up to 5. I did find myself overdoing it a few times this weekend and not having any init for emergencies in WvW, but between Last Resort and Shadowstep, it usually worked out in the end.
And when it didn’t, it still worked out in my end.
i don’t think i understand what the problem is? are you upset that you can kill mesmers?
imo Body shot in P/D set isnt much needed all p/d thieves who learn to play it before the patch will continue do so affective after . i would prefer other condition instead of immobilization

I would enjoy a condition too, playing a P/D condi thief, but i think A-net was trying to consider P/P thieves as well. The attack was also meant to be more team based, so i get the immob. All in all i like it. I am traited 20/0/30/0/20 and have 0 swiftness or speed skills. Unless i swap out bow im not chasing anyone in wvw. shadow step and this skill work wonders though
p/p can used immoblize to secure full p#3 but i think p/p must be revized as its still the most uneffective set for thieves
yeah i think you’re right. P/P is pretty FUBAR. You can’t base a set off a heavy initiative skill, you have to base a set off the one skill or you become too reliant on initiative. The problem with P/P is everyone goes straight zerk and hopes to god they can down a player after spamming 3 until their initiative pool is gone. I personally would be more scared of a thief running P/P with full rampager’s set. Heavy condition, with some nice power? Maybe some assassin’s accessories? That’s how P/P should be played…. i think ima try that. maybe rock those god awful perplexity runes and just lol at my dps
I was trying to say that I’m finding myself taking mesmers out faster now. It was more of a grind for me before.
Isn’t the immobilize too short for your to get a use out of it? Aren’t you losing on stacking more bleeds by using it, and it only lasts what, 1.5 seconds?
New Body Shot is really waste initiative for nothing. 200 DMG 5 invul on 3 sec and 1 sec imobil ?
Really. Who came up with this change?
It seems to be working well for me when I put it in the mix. Yes, each time used chews up a CnD’s worth of initiative. I’m getting good mileage by using it as a means of control and trying to cover up the bleed stacks.
Looks like you guys were doing pretty good for yourselves before the change. It can be spammed, especially if you’re trying to hold someone in place, but I’m not. For whatever reason, it’s made things a lot easier for me when I do go to it.
Wanted to get your opinions on it and thanks for sharing yours. *grin*
its working well in wvw to cut off the opps escape. Its good in fractals as well in a lot of situations as an on demand immobilise with no cd. I guess in cond build it only adds another buffer to removal but you should also consider that there is a priority to cond removal so unless you keep spamming it your still gonna lose your bleed stack, and if you do spam it you are not bleeding.
i use this skill if i want to catch my target from running away or to prevent it to burst on me especially on warriors
for me its like the scepter #2 skills on the mesmer which blocks an attack . the immobilize prevent it if i can catch my enemy coming to me
@WyldKat: you seem to be a decent and humble thief.
Have u tried using Body Shot with Basilisk Venom?
On my P/P thief, you all know I use Body Shot to secure my Unload. But I would never ever spam Body Shot, and always use it with Basilisk Venom.
As far as I know, Mesmer has no stunbreaker with condi removal built-in, unless using traited Signet of Midnight in a Signet build and you probably won’t see much that build in WvW.
This means when you successfully hit with Body Shot, you force the mesmers to blow 2 utility skills (or 1 utility and another key weapon skill) to regain movement. And I think that is very impressive.
I always judge a thief based on their open-ups. The good ones are the ones I never see their open-up attacks coming because after all the whole thief class is designed to rely on surprise element to win.

An idiot who didn’t think thieves had enough sources of immobilize already. Surprise Shot, Infiltrator Strike, Devourer Venom, and now this! Obviously we didn’t have enough sources already, we needed another one.
Bunch of lazies we have “tuning” this class into oblivion, one patch at a time.
@WyldKat: Have u tried using Body Shot with Basilisk Venom?
Nope, not in WvW (mostly) or PvE. Daggerstorm and Thieves Guild both have more value for me than BV. Daggerstorm works better for me in group situations, and when I’m roaming alone Team Cheese usually gets the job done if I need it.
Doesn’t BV get popped by stunbreaks now? I don’t think it’s good enough to get picked over the other elites unless you’re really tricked out to use venoms. It’s been months since I used venom share, maybe half a year now. BV is ok for some solo boss fights where you expect your elite thieves to act like redshirted Stormtroopers.
