Hi everyone! I just got my thief to level 80 tonight and I’m just confused by the overwhelming amount of Armor Set choices, etc…

What should I do now? I know I can complete the entire map but I just finished leveling my first character so I’d like to do smth different, I know that I can run now explorable and some story modes left. Should I start from AC to the final instance? I mean, can I complete for example CoF explorable modes with my kittenty gear of leveling ^^? Also I’d like to know what set should I aim for or what’ sthe best one… Sorry but as I said before there are a looooooot of things and choices to do, I couldn’t help asking..

you should be fine in explorable modes as long as you are in greens, as far as what to do, both WvW and explore/fractals are fun, so it’s up to what you prefer. you don’t have to do the dungeons in order, you can do whichever ones have to rewards you want as long as you have done the story mode of it already. as far as what armor to aim for, it depends on how you like to play the class. if you don’t mind giving more info on your preferred weapon set and play style, it would be a lot easier to help you figure out the gear set you should be aiming for.

Buy some cheap lvl 80 gear and do some dungeons and fractals. They’re all really fun. Go to LA and preview all of the dungeon armor to see which one you like, then do that dungeon until you have a full set. Be careful in dungeons as a thief though, were pretty squishy

A few things to your questions: Can you complete CoF with your leveling gear? Sure you can. I frequently have guildmates bringing their lvl 75 characters to CoF as a way to hammer out the last few levels before 80.

As others have suggested, you can go to the dungeon vendors in LA and look at the armor looks available there. You can also go to the PvP locker in Heart of the Mists and preview any of the armor sets you like, also mix and match pieces and see if you come up with a combination you’re looking to go for.

If you have not done dungeons yet, I recomend getting started with a group that you know and like to run with so you can figure out the mechanics, or, ask for a group that’s willing to take a rookie (I do this myself frequently when going to a new dungeon.)

If you don’t have all your skills unlocked, I would recomend getting any that you may have missed as several things that are less useful in open world PvE are far handier in dungeons.

Stat wise, for your gear, it depends on how you want your thief to play. Many people love the ‘Glass Cannon’ approach of Berserker’s gear (you can get the same stats from CoF.) I prefer a bit heartier thief and run the karma set from Dwayna’s temple as it suits my play style. What do you want your thief to do in dungeons?

As I’ve seen seems like I should start doing explorable modes. Yes, I want to try out the glass cannon build like it has to be fun in WvWvW. So I did story mode CoF yesterday, I guess I have to farm now the explorable modes of CoF. Also the set skin looks pretty awesome. I’ll do that

One question If you dont mind, I want to discover all the pve explorable modes and all the map but I’d like to focus my character to WvW and sPVP mainly, leaving PVE as a “time killer” or farming tool. Do I get the same stats from the Pve sets than the Pvp ones? Sorry about all my doubts but It’s my first 80^^.

The sPvP universe is completely different. Items are different and stats themselves are different. In WvW it’s the same as in PvE though.

For a modest investment you can get level 80 rare armor and weapons with major sigils and runes, and masterwork level 80 jewelry. This will make you much more effective in dungeons (and incidentally WvW). That gear will last you until you get your CoF set, and is much preferrable over the greens you acquired in your last few levels.

I’d go for level 78 exotics over 80 rares. They’re somewhere between in price, but only a couple stat points below 80 exotics instead of a tier below.

That and the exotic <80 medium armor set is perfect for a thief. Add in the correct colors and you look like Scorpion which goes well with the corresponding skin :p

Interesting, I couldn’t find lower level exotics with the right stats on the TP, and aside from that they were still quite expensive, >1g a piece. Perhaps I should look again.

They’re generally 75s-1g, compared to 80 rares at 30s and 80 exotics at 2-3g~. For both the rares and the 78/79 exotics, that isn’t really much above their price floor due to salvaging, so when you’re done with either of them you can pull most of your money back by breaking them down.
