Dagger off hand #5 ability Cloak and Dagger ‘Stab your foe and vanish in stealth, leaving them vulnerable’ has a range of 130.

My issue is frequent misses with the ability, I understand this is a player side issue due to lag or PC performance or hand eye coordination -just to name a few- but I am wondering if others are also somewhat frustrated after many hours of trying and still failing nearly half the time?

Are you missing due to them evading? Or being blinded? because other than that it takes a bit of practice. You can NOT CnD if you don’t use mouse turn plain and simple btw. Sometimes iif they are behind you you can quickly swivel the mouse around to tag them with it, but it missing is common, just learn to think fast to compensate for the potential punishment that comes next.

Not having problems with cnd…just know you won’t always hit and be prepared for it.

Well, if you miss due to block/miss, you should practice more.
If you miss due to evade, you’re probably being outplayed.
We can say that CnD is more or less a “skillshot”.
It is more cheap on initiative than the Black Powder+HS combo (4 if traited and landed), but it is harder to land.

It sounds like you’ve maybe just started using cloak and dagger (please correct me if I’m wrong). This skill requires perfect timing to land properly. When I first started using it in the beginning, I used to miss quite frequently. But after a few days, I hardly missed. A few weeks later, I never missed unless I sneezed, had lag or I was playing a good opponent who knew how to dodge properly.
If it’s an experience issue, just keep with it. Practice on mobs to get the feel and timing of it. Eventually it will become second nature. If it’s lag, well, not much I can tell you.

L2p or roll the cookie cutter d/p just like everyone else.

i run WvW roughly 50 – 80 FPS i never had issue with CnD. Expect on Reset days where every map is full i am getting Sever lag it not CnD issue it just lag that cuasing you to miss most likely. that saying it with about 2100 hours of thief game time ^^.

It takes some practice to know how to use it properly.

The skill has a little bit of a “wind up”, meaning the stab doesn’t come out instantly, so it’s important to note that.

You can use this to your advantage as well. You can start CnD just a few steps away from your opponent, and run in as soon as you start casting it. That way, the attack will connect right when you get in range. It’s a matter of spacing and timing.

Shadowstep abilities can also help you land it, if you didn’t know. It’s actually possible to start CnD, use steal to take you to your target, and then the CnD attack will come out when you’re right next to you opponent without you having to do some fancy footwork. It would be a matter of timing it properly though, and sometimes the steal can be a bit clunky against a moving person.

Another trick you can do is to use it on people just after they dodge. Often, people will not dodge twice in a row unless they really need to, so if you can get them to dodge, you’ll likely have a chance to hit them with CnD provided they don’t blind you or whatnot.

It’s a very powerful ability, so the tradeoff is that it can be a bit tricky to use.

thank you for pointing this out as i have b een saying for many months to the thief haters that backstab and CND are less than 50% success rates for hitting an enemy. its just hard. keep practicing you will get better. i have had fights where i miss none….others where i missed 4-5 in a row :P it happens

Actually, before the nerfs, landing a CnD was far easier.
The instagib combo relied on precasting CnD and then using Mug to have a granted CnD coupled with a really high amount of damage.

There aren’t thief hater for no reason. People hated thief because it was too strong.

try to pre cast CnD then steal or any other shadowstep
