Condition Thief Gear
To be more specific, I’m getting the CoF armor sets and slotting them with superior rune of the undead to make up for the toughness, as well as in my jewelry. I’m starting to wonder though if it might be better to mix and match my gear so that I have both power/vit/condi and prec/tough/condi.
My main damage output is bleeds from my caltrops and d/d, offhand is currently SB which, i dunno, is ok I guess but I’m not in love with it. I find I have more than enough AoE from DB from D/D and caltrops. I’m thinking that if I am going to have some power anyway from my dungeon set, what if i mix and match with some prec/tough gear so that switching to p/p might be a viable option? Might that work?
I would recommend going for whatever suits your traits. Personally, I have 30 in shadow arts. It gives enough survivability that I can do fine with rampager, power/precision/condition damage. I also stack alot of might, so its good to have both crit and condition damage going on. But I am quite squishy against burst damage, so going rabid would be better against bursting enemies.
My rule of thumb is if your enemy cannot out dps the healing from shadow arts, I do not need any more toughness/ vitality. Of course there are these moments when a burst thief instagibs me.
As far as I know, there seems to be 2 sets of condition gear out for thief, a power/vit/condition set and a prec/tough/condition set. Ideally we would want a condition/tough/vit set but as far as I know, that doesn’t exist.
That being said, are the karma vendors and dungeons the best source to acquire these sets? Currently I’m chasing the power/vit/condition armor, im farming CoF for this set. Are there better condition armor somewhere out there, or is this CoF dungeon set the best choice of exotics for a condition thief?
Here is my condition thief. All the armor is the same set up. Blades have 10% each bleed duration. Focus on Healing and condition damage.
It is all about personal preference and either going for a DPS/condition or a tanky/condition. You sadly, right now, can’t go true condition on a Thief—at least not to the damage that a condition Mesmer can.
Here is my build:
I personally do a tanky/evade/condition build that is very reliant healing through initiative spent, stacking 15-20 bleeds in a matter of 2 seconds, and then evading close to 90% of the attacks done to me during that time. It is a amazing PvE or mob build, but it mainly meant for survival and being a pest. This build it is not meant for PvP really, but can be extremely effective at soloing supply camps in WvW.
I focus on the tanky/evade part personally with throwing my #3 Death Blossom skill and doing evades 2-3 times, as well as dropping Clatrops. I have 20% cooldowns on all my Clatrops as well, which helps to spam it more. With Shadow Signet, and quickness form passives, you should RARELY get caught off-guard with this build—even in WvW you may not do damage in a PvP fight, but you will rarely die or get caught.
The primary focus of this above build is not for doing damage faster than the other player, it is simply out lasting your enemy. You should have about 1300+ condition damage (level 80 = 120+ per a bleed tick or 220+ per poison [short-bow]), which means that you can lay 15+ stacks in a second or two, and during that time take very little damage. With this build too you have +3 initiative regrowth above the normal rate. You can spam a LOT of skills at this point, especially your #3 skill.
The good news is too is that you can drop Shadow Refuge for the Shadow Signet and get close to 15 seconds of stealth with your passives stacking.
All-in-all a fun build. I will have to try the Shaman gear listed above though. The healing bonus means you will never die as a thief. Seems fun!

I wish I could see your build Icarus. it says bad link =(… I’m running a very similar build to what you’re describing but the armor I’m wearing now is level 70 blue armor specced to power/vit/condition. It’s doing fine so far but I was gathering data until I have to make a full commitment lol.
My build is this one currently:

I’m only at level 77 though and did not unlock the grandmaster trait yet (10 gold is expensive man…) so my condition damage is low (just over 1k) and my power is unnecessarily high (just under 2k). Hoping to balance that out soon after some CoF runs…
There’s one more set for Condition-Damage. Its the Powe/Prec/Cond Sets. I’m using it and i like it. I dont have realy much Life, but i pushed up to 15k with Accessoires and this stuff. I’ve only 800 Cond-Dmg (85 Bleeding and 120 Poison oder something like this, dont know correctly now) but i’ve also 1900 Power and 1900 Prec for more than 50% Crit-Chance. So i make very good physical Dmg but also a nice Cond-Dmg.
Vitality is something like 1200 and around 1066 Toughness.
So I can also use the trait, which is spending 5% of Precision as a Bonut to Vitality, to reach the 15k Life (without its 14k). I like it very well but its not everyones thing to play like this.
@Silver: Copy the link and open in a new tab, this shuld be working.
Thanks Kydar! That’s a really interesting gear set, where do you get that set? Also do you run d/d and sb with that much power and prec or do you use s/p or p/p or something else with high dps to take advantage of the high crit/prec?
Also there are runes that have 60% chance to trigger 5 secs of bleed on crit, so if using pistol whip on s/d… with all that sustained hits and crits… hmm! This is a very interesting concept, if this gear is affordable I’ll defn try to pick it up!
The prec/power/cond set is called rampager set.
U can craft this set. Its no problem to get.
Yes, i’m running D/D and SB….this are my favourites….because of the Poison and (short) Bleeding with SB (and nice Dmg as well) and the Death Blossom in D/D for bleeding and Poison in the first slot chain….This works very well.
I use this Sigil u mean in one of my Daggers….the other one is Bloodlust…but maybe i’ll change…

You have 10% bleed duration on both of your daggers? If so you should change one to a different sigil, they do not stack with each other so the second bleed duration sigil is a wasted slot, maybe sigil of energy would be a better good choice? That’s what I use anyway :P.
