Condition damage, how good?

I can tell now as a thief I am going to be better off if I use some range so I have decided to use a pistol off hand. I am curious to hear what you all think about condition damage and if it is worth it? I don’t feel like I have to get quick kills. I would rather be a thief who puts heavy pressure on as many opponent as I can and stay at range and have enough toughness to survive and get away. I guess I am looking to get advice on a good ration of power, precision, condition damage and toughness that would fit my playstyle.

Thanks

I just want to bleed you, poison you and stay at range, then if I have the opportunity shadowstep in a finish you but I wanna do most of my damage thru bleeds and poisons. If I don’t always get the kill it’s fine but I wanna put as much pressure on as I can.

You could try going P/D, dire gear, either perplexity runes or krait (? – extending bleed duration ones).
Something like:

SB as offhand is used to get away, hence the energy sigil, 2nd one is your choice probably also on swap (bleed? condi removal? steal health).

The idea is to enter stealth as often as you can (via CnD, and HiS) in order to use sneak attack to stack bleeds.
The two venoms are used to cover up the bleeds from being the first to be removed, devour venom is useful to root/snare the target so you can come in for a CnD.
Guild of Thieves and ambush (optional…) are used to create more panic/confusion/chaos for the opponent… I tend to plant ambush right beneath their feet after CnD, not sweating so much if they dont trigger it right away (as i’m sure they will if we’re engaged in a fight…)

I could have lost touch but, i believe bleeds or perplexity runes are the way to go if you want to be a condi thief, and P/D is the main condi weapon set (still).

Overall… in sPvP I feel/felt viable enough, roaming/back-capping/making fights unfair. Not 1v1’ing or holding points. Not sure how it fairs at high sPvP level/rank, though if you reach that point you will probably tailor a build for yourself.
In WvW, I rolled a warrior and a guardian.

P/D dire perplex/krait is the safest option, and the most powerful build in the entire game in WvW. However I have been keeping an eye on one of my friends who is currently working on a P/P perplexity build focusing on a headshot interrupt build on the basis that confusion does multiple times more damage than bleeding in a shorter time frame and is harder to remove.
