Is there any possability to counter the thiefs burst output with a non thief glasscannon spec on any other class? Its totally irritating to be kille din less then a second. Just not competitive…
I’d suggest packing at least one panic button utility. Then again, if you’re a GC, a stiff breeze could blow you up in a second.
Well if you don’t see the Thief coming…..no.
If you do, you can try and predict his Steal (900 Range) and time your Dodge accordingly. You could also try jumping him first. A Snare, Chill or Stun is often enough to ruin a Thieves opener.
You can also run towards them if you see them since that kinda ruins their positioning for a rear-Backstab.
GC vs GC the thief usually wins. GC thief has real issue with a well played defensive build though. I stress well played as the thief class, regardless of build kills noobs without any difficulty, but even a well played thief is a toss up vs a well played defensive build.
Like Dee Jay said… run at em. Then it depends what build you are. I am on Sword mainhand at the moment so I drop an untargeted infiltrator’s strike as I run in and if I fail my dodge I shadow return.
On P/D I always had a stun break and caltrops on dodge.
Blimm, are you talking PvP or WvW? If PvP then you will see less and less over time.

depends on your class
GC warrior > burst thief in 95% of situations. – endure pain bull charge 2 hits -whirlwind gg
GC guardian > not an vey viable combination – you block 1 hit with aegis but you won’t surive the entire burst
GC ranger – got an real chance if he time his skills corectly , the transfer pain, 2 knockbacks +longbow 2’nd skill , will kill the thief before gc thief can stealth away
Not sure about other classes , i find GC warrior good counter vs burst thief,
The ideea is , thief will initiate the fight, he will surprise you but if keep panic button UP, burst thieves cannot stealth to much
If you can eat the mug and CnD damage then you can just activate an ability to counter the backstab. Generally i just let the thief use their steal+CnD then use an ability like shadowstep or mist form to avoid the backstab damage and create some distance until their stealth expires. After that they’re usually easy kills.
However, if they use haste I find it very difficult to react in time and it does feel like a cheap kill that you can’t really counter, but haste always seems to make abilities feel OP =/
No, you probably shouldn’t,
“Refers to a person, weapon, or vehicle which has a high output, but a low defense, life, durability, etc.”
You gave up durability for high damage, you can instant-gib someone, but expect a stiff breeze to blow you up.
Then they can repeat this chain in seconds so no there is not any real counter for a good bs thief, if you don’t have friends you’re gonna die. This is from wvw perspective, in tpvp thiefs are fine as they cant attain near the damage they do in wvw.

Not true, a warrior or necromancer can use aoes to destroy thieves, especially bs thieves who need to be in melee, but they need to abuse there defense to do such, and not focus solely on offence.
Necromancers are the true counter to thieves though.
If you don’t see the thief just dodge whenever you see the first damage, you may (MAY) avoid his backstab. If you succeed CC are always useful against thieves, especially the ones with a long duration, like the #4 of the elementalist or the multiple knockdown/stun of a hammer warrior.
