D/D Condi Daredevil WvW lamers
If they are using Lotus training then they are vulnerable to anything that can apply immobilize or cripple. D/D is also extremely range limited. Just stay about 500 away and range them down. Maybe use pistols. Use stealth and teleport to confuse them and stay out of their AoE.
And don’t stand on top of them. Hit and run with sword-dagger/pistol would probably work fairly well.
Judging from the forums you recently posted in I suppose you are playing either revenant or necro. Both are in a pretty bad spot to fight d/d thieves.
I play that build (in spvp but anyways) and first of all: its not stupid. It might be considered cheesy for a thief build, but it offers great potential while still allowing zero mistakes.
Now with that out of the way: Keeping distance is a good start. They are faster, they will close the gap, but they might waste skills or initiative on it and they might be irritated or so caught up in chasing you, that they miss a dodge or anything else.
You will also need constant condition removal. A single cleanse skill wont do. A passive one might be a good start.
Do not use condi of your own. ofc you can bust out whatever you have, but dont focus your build on it. We can basically shake of everything. If you however do manage to apply a decnt amount of condi, stop attacking. If we cant evade, we cant cleanse. Just like that.
No matter how good your opponent is there will be short periods of time when both initiative and stamina are out. This is easier to achieve if you force us to chase you.
This will give you several seconds in wich not all of your bursts can be evaded. Use that seconds wisely.
I dont know if everybody does so, but i prefer bandits defense as stunbreaker. This means 12 sec cd and a block. If you use cc, do it twice within these 12 secs, and we will hate it. We cant afford to stand around and take hits.
It’s really aggravating to play a power thief vs condi thief. Extremely limited condi removal makes it a pretty one sided fight. It’s possible to win, but the power thief has zero room for error. While the condo thief can make mistakes often and still have an advantage. S/D is the only way I’ve been able to beat them.
And to those who play this simple, low-risk build… Don’t sit there and /laugh when other Thieves refuse to fight you. It’s not your ability to play that they’re walking away from, just the spec you choose.

Well yes. Power thieves are…different. we still cant allow you to hit us tho. And this has been discussed recently but I still see no point in playing a thief without escapists absolution these days. Why would you even consider that?
Anyways a hard hitting power thief with bv and stealth can sometimes kill me, its difficult if you give me the opportunity to fight back.
Still: its not ‘forgiving’. more so than a common thief I believe. But still a lot more unforgiving than pretty much every other class.
After all: you are incredibly fast dead if you dont evade everything they throw at you. The key thing about this build is not mindlessly spamming evades, thats the easy part. The hard part is managing your ressources in the most optimal way. You stay in fights longer than the average thief, waiting for your enemy to tick down. The mass evade is merely a tool that allows you to do so.
Impacting Disruption is much more valuable to D/P. EA is more suited for S/D. So if a d/p thief encounters a D/D condi thief, they would have to disengage, change traits (and most likely weaponry) to put themselves at a slightly better disadvantage.

I keep running into these guys, all they do is press 3 and dodge , repeat sequence. Impossible to stunlock or catch. Their damage is not best but man are they one of the most stupid builds out there right next to PU condi mes…
I try to ignore and go the other way, but they perma cripple me and /laugh.
What do?
They are super easy to kill.
run -condi foods along with shadow arts d/p and they become free kills
Any form of 600+ range weapon to kite them with will work most of the time.
You can also make use of the environment to avoid being Stolen onto, look for things like rocks, plants, fences and pretty much anything where you can’t get to without jumping.
wot do? depends on your class lol you can put a trap if you are DH and watch how they melt or if you are thief you just sb 5 away from them
simply walking away from condi bot thief in any direction works too since they have no way to damage you while you move even if you are crippled since d/d 3 has a laughable speed and damage radius
I should have mentioned, I roam with GS/axe warrior, condi reaper and power rev but havent ran into one with my rev. They easily evade every attack even if i try to land at the end of death blossom. I can put some pressure with reaper but then of course they run away like every thief and come back to chain CC.
I’d like to take a moment to show my intense disapproval of players in general who (1) emote to taunt or mock their opponent — especially after winning. It doesn’t matter what your build or skill level is.
This doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate your victories. /cheer /bow are always options for this kind of thing. Either that or don’t say anything at all. If someone goes down without a fight I honestly don’t have the time to waste on emotes. If someone was really good/skilled/difficult to beat then a respectful “well fought” works.
‘Warrior’ ‘Condi reaper’ ‘Power rev’ These are exactly the three words I’d love to see in my opponents description. Along with ‘mesmer’ maybe.
Sry but you simply wont win with any of these, the rev might still have a chance, but only if you play exeptionally well or your opponent exeptionally bad.
This is simply a counter mechanic, cant say that I like it, but its the way it works. If you really have so many d/d’s, roll a dragonhunter or a scrapper. You are the paper, we are the scissors, either you get the rock or you try to avoid us.(tho we can pick our opponent, might be hard)
I’ve recently been running a build like this as a thief. No one can beat me its pretty cheese. But yeah the best way to win would be to stay away and attack from far away or confuse them with clones or be a diamond ele. But it is still an amazing build, you can’t miss a dodge though or you die. I’m a huuge fan and it brought my thief game from zero to hero.
All the dodge!
why is it that when thieves struggle, it’s because they aren’t good enough, and one of the few good builds we have is cheese, yet no one really kittens on all the very many other builds from other classes that are FAR stronger than our “cheesy” build?
all i see is “oh, you have a viable build? it’s cheese. you’re obviously not skilled and your build carries you.” OP is full of bs
Because people like to blame others instead of blaming their own inability, DB kills lots of thieves, because the evades last no where near as long as the animation so they are sitting ducks, any immob or CC will kill a thief running this build. But it’s the thief player being cheesy, yet you still have Trapper DHs, Cele Eles, Gunflame Warriors and so on running around but those aren’t cheesy in the slightest.
I have decided, per my signature, to respond as follows to any accusations of running “cheese.”
“I’m like parmesan. Hard to kill and salty from all the tears.”
I hate it when those thieves pop in shroud and you have to burn through two life bars just to MAYBE get them down. And then when they chain their invulnerable skills, blocking all my attacks. The worst, by far, is when those thieves spam spell immunities and auto condition transfers from their pets and omg when thief clones start popping up everywhere and you have to bring counters and situational environmental awareness.
something i’ve noticed is that if you just browse through the class threads, you’ll notice that the thief threads have a significantly higher amount of three things compared to the other class threads. thieves that complain, thieves who suggest changes, and other classes who complain about the very FEW times they’ve been killed by a good thief.
all the other threads MOSTLY consist of questions about which skill do other people prefer or which traits should they use. even threads about which class is better, cept none ever compare their class to thief in that subject.
to me thats a clear sign that thieves are really the weakest of all classes. still, there are a few players who still use the class pretty well. somehow, they’re like the loud minority that everyone pays attention to, which makes them believe THEY are the majority. kinda like femikittens
