D/D and Dual Pistols
Well if you go dual pistols you are almost certainly going to be using unload most often, which is your bread and butter dmg, that usues initiative. If you use any other skill besides the auto attack you’ll use initiative which then cant be used for your #3 which has no added effect besides direct dmg. Shortbow on the other hand, while arguably weaker, has an aoe, on demand blast finisher, built in evade, up to 30s poison field and a shadow step. Why would you pass that up in WvW

But P/P suxor for the most part
easy as hell to dodge and reflects/retal will destroy.
Since you’re primary weapon set is D/D, im guessing you’re either playing a backstab or perhaps a condition build. Either way I don’t see any of them synergizing well with P/P. Dual Pistol requires a good initiative regeneration which most D/D builds do not require. I find P/P to be a good setup but as a primary weapon set but leaves little utility as a secondary weapon other than bursting down enemies who are running away. For a secondary you would be better off learning to play with a shortbow.

D/D and P/P isn’t a good combination
P/P isn’t a bad setup like most people think, but it requires traits chosen specifically for it to make it a setup that is able to challenge other builds (read, challenge, not beat them. Even with the right traits it’s a hard setup to win with).
P/P is a very ini heavy power based setup and requires your utilities too. A D/D 1 combo backstab won’t work with it for example (your utilities aren’t correct for P/P). Stealth heavy backstabber is also heavy ini based which will work against P/P. Haven’t tried out a condi D/D but theoretically you’ll be a jack of all trades since P/P is a power build and this will reduce your effectiveness.
P/P works better with a stun build cause it makes your enemy to pull away from you rather than facing you head on like a D/D setup.
P/D P/P combi, same as condi D/D.
D/P P/P This might possibly work, haven’t tested it myself yet so no comments
S/D P/P Same, it can work, but haven’t tested yet
SB P/P Twice ranged, twice no stealth ability and with only 1 having evade mechanism. Poison field with unload isn’t very spectacular. It could work but I don’t see this being very strong in duels.

i want to use P/P myself just because it looks cool. my suggestion is to wait for the oktober 15? patch. i believe they are changing the #2 skill on pistol for thief.

It’s a trait..either trick….yah…iirc…its in trickery…(X)…. makes every shot like 60% bounce to another enemy…and they can keep ricocheting…. i know b/c i play d/p P/P in SPvP and its funny as hell when you shadow shot into a crowd and blind/hit like 4 ppl b4 u stop bouncing around….anyways..that solves your “lack” of an AoE problem…also…if using d/d p/p …d/d has an aoe, DB.
P/P w/ the right traits can be very fun
It has dd + condi on 1 skill…2 skill….I belive this was too nerfed….as far as length of condi..but it puts vulnerability on foe w/ a small-med dmg as well… 3 all DD but multiple quick high dmg hits….4 for wvw in smaller groups can save lives/prevent ressurection(foe from downed to up), prevent use of heals/prevent use of that “I know its comin..i know its comin i know its commin… i better wtf out” skill that kills/etc etc…. and 5…not only blinds the target..but blinds anyone near you as well….its a very eclectic but hard to master skill set. Just use it more and you’ll learn to love the play as well as the look.
