I’ve been trying to figure out which is better i mean d/d has the cripple which means they cant escape and a extra stealth but with d/p they can never lose me or hit me for that matter or heal themselves (obvious cast so an easy daze). But I just wondered which weapon set you prefer most of the time I cant see the point in d/d.

The problem with D/D (and a lot of Thief sets) is it cannot make up its mind what it wants to do. Backstab and Heartseeker are clearly for a power/precision builds yet then you got LDB which is all about condition damage.

The problem with Thief sets in general is they try to cram too much in to the tiny selection of weapons we got instead of just giving us more options and giving each a proper direction. Take a look at Warrior. You want melee condition damage? You use Sword. Direct damage? Axes. Control? Hammer. Then you got off-hands to enhance and tailor that style.

Now look at Thieves. You got Dagger which is mostly direct damage but also has the only melee condition damage move as well. Sword is a kinda direct damage/control/mobility hybrid that is only popular because Pistol Whip hits too hard. Pistol is good off-hand but P/P is completely lacking in purpose. I mean it is obviously designed for single target damage but kinda fails to actually do that considering Shortbow, the ranged AoE/condition damage weapon can do more single target damage then P/P as well.

Sadly the entire Thief weapon option selection looks very rushed and half-baked. Sure, they are powerful ATM but that is only because of two skills being borderline broken. Plenty more of Thief skills are close to completely useless.

I’ve found the D/P combination to be very useful. Using the weapon swapping ability, I actually will swap between a D/P and a P/D set (I imagine my character tossing his weapons from one hand to the other, heh). I’ll use the D/P when close combat is required, while using P/D when keeping your distance is preferable. I’ve found doing so allows me to handle most any situation that comes my way. Of course I still get knocked on mykitten a few times, but it wouldn’t be fun if there wasn’t some challenge to it.
