Hey,

As a new thief player I have no idea what the best weapon for content like Fractals/Dungeon/Raids is.

I think DD has better DPS and Staff doesnt seem to have any use for PvE content.
Sword seems to be our “save” weapon for harder content.

Because of the higher DPS (if thats true…) of Dagger/Dagger this should be the setup im supposed to run for dungeons, right?

What are your prefered weapon choices?

Depends. For bosses I go full runes of rata sum and shortbow. Spam 4.

Raid perspective here:

Staff has higher DPS when being able to land the rotation (Bound -> WC -> WC -> Auto -> repeat or Bound -> WC -> Vault -> Auto x2 or Auto x3 to regenerate initiative -> Repeat, which is easier but less DPS). The caveat here is landing all 3 hits of WC can be tricky, but practise should negate it mostly. Had zero problems vs. any of the raid bosses.

If you’re having trouble landing all hits of WC, take D/D instead. The DPS difference between the two isn’t extreme, anyway.

That being said, Staff has other advantages over D/D. More reliable evade frames, strong mobility that comes in very useful on all 3 raid bosses, ranged blinds vs. annoying adds that doesn’t require you to swap to inferior Sword/x to get them, consistent Whirl Finishers for Burning, healing, condition removal and other things depending on fields, etc.

If you can land all 3 hits of WC, you should absolutely run staff – it deals a good 25% more damage than a perfect D/D backstab rotation in that case.

If you can’t land all 3 hits of WC and need to just spam vault and bound…then you should still run staff. Vault spam does slightly more damage than a perfect D/D backstab rotation, and is much, much easier – you don’t have to worry about positioning and can more or less spam skills to do reasonable DPS.

Short version – if you are looking for top damage run staff. D/D is obsolete.

Marauders offer more total stats, so it’s not as big of a dps loss as you might expect. Switching from full zerker’s to a marauder’s setup ends up at about a 10% dps loss for around a 50% hp increase. If you’re trying to min/max dps, then 10% is a pretty significant loss. However, being downed is also a pretty significant dps loss, and with thief’s low HP pool, I personally prefer splashing about half marauder into my set for only a minor loss and about 15k HP.

Like a lot of these things it depends a lot on other aspects of your build – with the added ferocity from Practiced Tolerance and No Quarter, on top of a Ferocious Maintenance Oil to provide even more, the DPS loss from full marauder armor and weapons can be as little as 2%. Without those buffs it will be closer to a 6% loss.

Is it worth it? Well, are you getting downed frequently? If you are, and the extra health would prevent that, it is easily worth it. If you’re not, then the extra health doesn’t buy you anything and you should stick with berserker.
