D/P Build Theorycrafting
This is the build I often run with.
Utilities are not that important as I often swap them about depending on the situation. With my gear I have 56% crit chance (60% with signet), 3200+ attack and +100% crit damage.
I use Withdraw instead of HiS because it provides more healing for the cooldown cost and gets you out of dodge quick with little fear of being interrupted. And as you have easy access to stealth with this build HiS is not really needed, but that’s just my personal preference.
If I wanted to purely focus on base damage with average/low/decent crit rate how would I go about it (runes, traits, amulet)?
A damaging build with little to no crit?
I had a mess around in a build calculator and came up with:
30 IV, VIII, XII
0
30 IV, IX, XI
10 III
0
Soldier Amulet, Vampirism runes. Focused on using high power (High damage attacks) and multiple sources of Life-steal (Runes + Leeching Venoms (Leeching Venoms scales damage off Power)) whilst having some good survivability (Life-steal + Regen in stealth + Vigor) to be able to last long in a fight.
That said, I’ve not tested it so wouldn’t know how well it works (Might mess around in the Mists a bit at some point)
There’s two kinds of people… The quick and the dead”
Well Taril I think I found the ideal build for what I was talking about.
Basically it gives me 23k Life, 2.9k Armour, 3.1k Base damage. The only downside is crit rate which is 18percent. However that is not of a concern since I got the hidden killer trait!
Will post more info about it later on.
Here is the wannabe-glad, wannabe bunker/damage version of D/P.
Please criticize it as much as possible because that would help me to twitch some traits or utilities (which I think needs to be changed too).
Soldiers Amulet.
Scholar Runes.
Sigil of Chill on Dagger.
Force on Pistol.
Fire on Bow.
Note: My instinct tells me that “bunker/damage” role/build (call it whatever you want) suits more with a sword/pistol

Anyone see any good D/P videos? I would say I’m pretty good at it, but far from great, and would love some more tips.
The videos I see out on youtube seem to feature thiefs killing people who are 1/2 dead or have blown all of their cooldowns. I know how to kill those people.
Like I imagine most people, my big problem is balancing survivability with burst damage. I often run 0/0/30/30/15. I can do a 3 on 1 if they aren’t good. It’s a good setup but no way I can kill a good D/D Ele or a guardian. I just can’t burst worth a crap.
I went to 10/0/30/30/5 (Something like that I’m at work now so I’m not sure) for mug. It’s better but not great.
I’m running a PTV chest and the rest Zerk. Shortbow backup. I’m thinking I need to run a sword/dagger backup, PTV more of my gear and spec higher in the fist 2 lines.

You have probably seen most D/P videos including the Permanent Stealth D/P aka “Slayer” on youtube so I doubt there are more out there. Check out the attachment I posted above and let me know what you think if you can be bothered to try it out.
Thanks for the reply Authority, 0/30/20/20/0 might work for me with Valkyrie armor and Zerk accessories.

say what?
d/p is 1v1 build, not for ganging, that guy’s traits and utilities were plain dumb compared to setups ran by d/p thieves these days.
Wat is this I don’t even

Maugetarr that is really close to my build. How do you burst? Can you? I can’t take down a Guardian or a D/D Eley (Well not good ones) with my build.

I usually just move along when it comes to taking on bunkers in whatever build I’m using. Against D/D eles, it usually comes down to them messing up. It sort of comes down to a rock paper scissors thing in my experience. Direct damage thief beats necro>condition necro beats bunker>bunker stalemates with direct damage thief. I’ve had some success with popping thieves guild from stealth against a bunker once you establish a pattern that they react to, but there’s a fair amount of luck/timing involved in that. In sPvP you may cause some ragequits if you’ve stalemated in a 1v1 then pop TG to burn them down.
