Hello there everybody,

So after a long time, about 4-5 Months of gameplay, I finally decided to create and post a guide into my final chosen proffesion and the set up I use.
Many people do guides ect but Ive never done one so please bar with however constructive critisum and improvements are always welcome, so then lets begin.

First as the post said this is a pvp build ( haven’t really tested it in pve or wvw) focused on the dagger pistol set up with a shortbow added aswell, with major evade and blind.

Weapon Choice

Simple weopon choice – Dagger/Pistol

No.1 abilty – chain attack - Constiant ok damage on the first two part with a poerful finish, and the cherry on top poison. Always use these attacks as much as possible.
No. 2 abilty – Heartseeker - Insane damage + evade and its a combo finisher. Many will say “spam this as a gap closer it does awesome damage”, well i agree its damage in very nice I tend to only use it to finish a enemy player off, or as a way to stealth for a backstab. (see gameplay)
No. 3 abilty – Shadow shot - More damage than heartseeker till enemy is below 50% where heartseeker does more damage, However this is your main gap closer simply because this a blind build and this abilty blinds.
No. 4 abilty – Head Shot - I dont use this abilty very often, becuase the other abiltys have consitant usage, However this abilty does ok damage and can stop them pesky players stomping you team mates or reviving theirs giving you one amazing abilty to keep the fight in your favour.
No. 5 abilty – Black Powder - Well this is simply my favourite abilty that a Theif has access too. Combo field smoke + Combo finisher pojectile and a AoE pulseing blind, what more can you ask for in abilty. This abilty is so versitile, you can stop a 100B and stand there and laugh or ensure you not interupted whilst finishing a player off, and also gives you access to your very limited stealth potental.

I wont go into much deatail about the shortbow choice, because its only a secondary weapon. The reason for the shortbow is very simple its got crazy mobilty which will help you either escape a bad situation or gap close ready for D/P.

Sigil + Amulet Choice

I’ve linked the build in trait choice, however ill explain the sigil choice. First the reason why I choose Divinty runes is for two reason, one being it gives you 12% crit damage, always nice, secondly and more importantly it gives abit of everything, and although not a game changer as a theif and as with this build toughness and vitalailty are at a low, but the focus of this build is damage and crit damage. So with that in mind i think Divity runes just give you a little bit of wiggle room and surviabilty whilst increaseing your overall damage output. Secondly the amulet easy choice berserkers with berserker jewel amazing crit damage with awesome power and precison with a little bit of vitality added. Finally weapon sigils, this build focuses on being able to evade alot of damage so it’s import to have more and more endurance regen so sigil of superior energy will make it so that it is so easy to maintain enduced that you hardly have to worry about it. The other sigil is completely up to you, I choose Bloodlust for the increase in power, but you may choose any other sigils you like for that one I recommed, either Minor/superior accuracy for more crit’s.

Utilty and Elite Choice

There are many useful utiltys a theif has access to which can stealth you or condition stack, but stealth is not important in this build and nor is conditions. but more evade and escape moves are. We will use 3 stun breakers for the simple reason of if your mobile and evading your alive and killing. Being lockdown and unable to move with get you killed faster than any other glasscannon build out there.

So choices :-

Withdraw - 15sec cooldown 4k+ heal with a evade that removes movement imparing effects. Simple choice as this is a evade build.
Roll for Iniative - 60sec cooldown – same as above just gives you back that all important Iniative. oh yeh and its a stun breaker.
Shadow Step - 50 sec cooldown – 1200 range stunbreaker, that cure in total 3 condtions, either away to get back to a point to recontest it or put in safe spot and use as a great run away abilty. With very little conditon removal this abilty is a life saver.
Infiltraitor’s Signet - 30sec cooldown – this is used mostly for the extra iniative gain, but once again a stun breaker with a shadowstep and you gotta love being able to keep up with even the most mobile of kiters.

Dagger Storm - 90sec cooldown – this abilty comes down to personnal preferance, theifs guild is another good option but the cooldown is too long for me. This abilty gives crazy damage and reflects projectiles give stabilty and also bleeds and cripples. Its my *there are too many of you time to mow you down in style button.

Trait Choice

Now some of you will know this build, but I tweaked and played around with it myself for awhile and this is what ive come up with.

0/30/5/20/15 Evasive blinder

Now being that this is a variation on other builds Id rather leave this is bit up for open discusion on improvements with reasons why.

Gameplay

Finally some gameplay tips tricks and generally how to play this, No stealth, blind bombing evasive build.

For those who love stealth this isnt your build, the only access to stealth is using Blackpowder then heartseeker or using heartseeker into any smoke feild or blinding powder trait. This build is about avoiding damage all together staying mobile and killing alot fast and not getting hit. However using the heartseeker + black powder trick is beautiful to surprise enemys comming around the corner.

You will get kited ALOT by nearly everyone infact. Use your gap closers wisely makesure you can follow a gapcloser with a hard hit, when your criting hard why not smack them in the face when your near them.

Use your shortbow to get you around fast also if there are groups of players use it then becuase d/p is single traget for the most part and trying to kill one at a time, whilst impressive when you pull it off, will get you killed and keep your distance. Remember getting close to a target is not hard for this build.

Most importantly evade alot with some many way to evade and get enduance back dont worry so much if you find yourself evading every 3-4 secs you will be able to escape most things.

Pro’s and Con’s

Pro’s
- Amazing mobilty
- Average to high damage output
- Great escape abilty’s
- Fast playstyle
- Fast initative regen
- Most improtanlty an abundance of Blind abiltys.

Con’s
- Low toughness and vitalty
- very little conditon removal (with this meta that can be a problem)
- Fast initative comsuption
- Lower damage output than some other weopon/trait set ups.
- low margin of error (making a mistake, using the wrong abilty a the wrong time can lead to a quick death, however this is true with most proffesions)

Anyway I know its wall of text and there are probabily more than one or two mistakes, but i hope you enjoy this set up and please feel free to give advice or ask questions regarding this build.

I’m looking at your traits, and I have to ask, why are you putting 5 points into Shadow arts instead of say, putting that 5 into trickery and unlock another Master major trait such as Bountiful Theft to grant vigor and boon steal while reducing Steal (another gap closer) CD?

I agree that 5 more points into trickery has its advantages, the boons + boon steal is very nice not to mention steal CD reduction. However with the amount of gab closeing and evade this build already has, my personnal preference , is to have a abilty that can save your life incrediably well for just 5 points into shadow arts im able to get out of a fight that i could quite possiably be losing. This ofc is my personnal prefrence and the build still works well if you go 0/30/0/20/20 instead, plus as a main focus of the build is evasion and blind its allows a auto-matic close range blind giving you a little more wiggle room. But thanks for the reply :P
