Clips like this make me understand why people hate on D/P Thieves an call it cheap. Especially the fight against the Engineer where you just constantly stealth away.

It’s sad seeing players use Black Powder exclusively for stealth when it has an immense offensive value as well. Dropping Black Powder on top of someone can mitigate a lot of their damage and you’d win fights a whole lot quicker rather than using it exclusively for stealth and Backstabs.

Shadow Shot too is an immensely useful tool for applying pressure, especially vs. Mesmers and Blinds eat their Phantams.

I’m not saying you’re bad, but you play D/P like you would play D/D when the most effective play-style (imo) is actually a little different.

yay another kid who hates on D/P ^^ i like that you said my D/p is cheap but Perplex engi isnt, hate all you want, but do it on a complaint thread, thanks. Btw i use black powder offensively, but im not stupid enough to drop one on an engi so he can get free aoe dmg. its best against war/gaurd and some other melee classes

So, you can troll people wit d/p until they make a mistake. And you can kill ranger.

You should really consider deleting your target to have some control over your hs if you just use it for stealth.

i didn’t just ‘troll people and kill a ranger’. i fought a ranger, engi, necro, mesmer, ect. and i stealth’d for regen, i’m not stupid enough to fight without survivability. Also i keep them targeted becasue i can hit them with a HS to do dmg and still go into stealth at the end of the leap. but thanks for hating, the first song was 4 corners – michael urgacz vs. sean tyas

Real men don’t waste a precious slot on shadow refuge when playing D/P… I’m just saying.

People can complain all they want, but that didn’t look like a easy time with that engineer.

it wasnt an easy time, when i fight engis like that its mostly me waiting for the engi to make a mistake so i can capitalize on it. ^^

No actually you have target on even when you are way too far for HS to reach target or even when trying to stack stealth. So your " I keep them targeted because i can hit them with HS to do dmg and still go into stealth at the end of the leap" doesn’t justify that clumsiness.

whats wrong with targeting your enemy anyways karolis? if your complaining about when im trying to blinding power then leap back towards the enemy, i don’t use the short hs in the blinding powder, it’s easier to time it when i blinding power, leap out, walk in, leap out again, that way i can always proc the 2 initiative trait.

Man. That was kind of hard to watch.

I don’t really want to watch the whole thing, but here’s some advice given your first fight with the Mesmer.

From the very start you waste your IS and almost reveal yourself with HS; luckily your opponent dodged so you remained in stealth and were able to Backstab.
Two much better options for opening up would have been to:

• Watch your Stealth countdown and once it has hit 0, then HS to your opponent, that way while you’re traveling through the air you’ll de-stealth, hit your target, then immediately re-stealth and gain 2 initiative.
• Keep your target unselected, move your camera above your character, and do 3 HS without breaking your previous Stealth to give yourself a better surprise advantage. They’ll have seen your BP, but they won’t know your location and when to dodge.

After the first couple seconds the Mesmer stealths and you BP > HS to get into stealth yourself, but for some reason you target his Berserker. Had you made contact and he was running clone death traits you would have inflicted negative effects on yourself. It’s always best to BP >HS without a target while keeping an eye on your surroundings as to not accidentally hit a clone/ambient/etc.

After that you used Backstab into his front which luckily crit, so not all was lost. What you did immediately after is what boggles my mind. You try to Steal to him, but instead Steal to his Berserker; Steal is something that should almost always be saved for landing your Backstabs from a distance. Using it immediately after landing a Backstab while you’re revealed is a complete waste.

You then frantically try to get back into Stealth by HS through the BP you laid some time ago, but your internal timing is off and you waste 3 initiative; try to keep better track of how long your BPs are down.

Seeing as you’re out in the open, you’re susceptible to attacks and decide to dodge a clone’s 1 dmg scepter attack. The only things you need to watch for from a Power Mesmer is the iLeap Clone and Phantasmal Berserker. Save your dodges for those if your opponent is attacking from stealth.

You BP > HS again, but gain 5 stacks of confusion in a addition to a few other conditions in process. The best course of action would have been to HS just once more in the opposite direction to gain some distance while your Shadow’s Embrace gets to cleansing it. Instead you try to Backstab three times, Heal, and drop BP all of which damaged you.

You make eight more mistakes after that, but it’s too much to write, and that’s just for the first fight.

I suggest you practice a bit more, then make videos for display.

It wasn’t a wasted effort. I don’t play any builds even remotely close to what the OP uses and I still enjoyed reading your analysis while scrolling through the video.

Just watched the first two fights against mesmer and engineer …and thats just terrible gameplay sorry.
And u cant be proud to win against that engi , his playstyle was just …crap:D
And you always run away otherwise u Would just lose against them…

We all know what happens when you say someone that they are doing it wrong, specially in peaceful ( lecturing? omg no!) fashion – they get all defensive.

Out of curiosity why did you decide to waste IS on the engie when he is right next to you?

You already gain might from stealth since you have 30 in SA, it just seems stupid to try and get 5 extra stacks with IS of all signets. I mean you would have probably benefited with Assassin’s Signet if that’s all you were trying to do.

i used IS for might. nothing wrong with that, its not like i needed it to be up for some other reason

Anywho~ The fact that you popped I.S and Steal nearly at the same time makes me questions why? Can you explain?
You also Shadowshot then steal right after? I don’t understand this.. You waste 3 back stab combo’s

Stealth>IS>backstab
Stealth>Steal>backstab
Stealth>Shadow shot>backstab

Yet you choose to pop both CD’s at the same time at various times during the clip. I saw it prominently during your fight with engie.

sigh..personally i use both D/D and D/P. I find nothing wrong with using black powder offensively as well as defensively(crazy idea kitten me right). Now i wanted to rage quit on the video at the engi fight because you should of pulled your bow out the second he did supply create. but you still got the win.. the only thing i will say negative is get rid of the deer finisher…pvp moar

OP: I don’t like the fact that you use the stealth available to you in order to win. If you were a good thief, you would face tank your opponents without getting hit. :P

it wasn’t meant to be a troll thread kadin, trolls just kind of happen on their own :l and dustfinger, i use stealth because anet gave thieves stealth, so therefore i can use stealth, sorry if you disagree with me. i play plent of s/d too if that’s what you’re implying i should do. Gartz, i’m actually getting into pvp more, 1 more rank til i get the dolyak finisher :o and i dont use my bow unless im running because the time it takes to swap back to my d/p is too long, i could be dead by then, but thats just the way i think.

Lol, that was satire from me. I think it’s a little ridiculous when other thieves trash certain builds like d/p.

My point was that the stealth is available so there is really no reason not to use it. When posters knitpick about how you won, it is pointless. At the end of the day, you won and your opponent lost. it’s my inderstanding that you never claimed to be the best thief ever! so them describing that you could have won quicker/or better/ or with more skill is nonsensical.

Use steal and backstab at the same time

the dmg hits a the same time as when you teleport to them, taking you out stealth. shadow shot is different, you teleport, then the bullet catches up to you. i prefer the extra dmg + heal rather than to save it for as long as possible until i need a gap closer, i always have shadow shot for a gap closer anyways.

you can mug into backstab as long as you start the bs and steal before it lands. BS has a casttime, and you can precast it just like a CnD, although the time frame is shorter.

You are still able to complete a full backstab while in stealth. Just need to precast backstab (autoattack) and then steal immediately. I am from sea of sorrows
