D/P: how to do damage?
Mild addiction to arcana tree ~
You are using an “old” build. Before the Ferocity nerf, DP SA builds relied mostly on Backstabs to kill your opponent. Now the damage you dish out with a successful BS is not enough to kill most “meta” builds.
That said, it is still possible to win some fights with DP Shadow Arts. Don’t rely only on backstabs. Understand WHEN you can go trading autoattacks with your enemy.
I’d say that playing DP with SA successfully now takes a lot more skill than before: you must have complete knowledge of your opponent, and understand when it is the time to attack (usually after they have used some damaging skills with long CD).
For example, you can go toe-to-toe with a warrior if he has already used zerker stance and you stand inside a Blind field(but try to always have your Shadowstep ready in case you get stunned).
You can go toe-to-toe with a guardian if he has already used his GS#5 skill (use the stolen skill for when he uses his GS#2 attack).
You can go toe-to-toe with an Elementalist when you land your stolen skill AFTER he left water attunement so that he can’t move away from the Blind Field.
… and so on. There are countless of situations, but after the nerf to critical damage it is way harder to put pressure on your opponent.
How to do dmg? Strength runes, 25 SA, a battle and air sigil, and power of inertia in acrobatics
(Wvw) Hi everyone, where is the main damage source of d/p? I ask this because my backstabs dont chunk as hard as d/d and when i trade auto attacks with someone i take more damage than them. Im running full beserker with ogre runes, cav acessories and trinkets, and beserker rings. 10/30/30/0/0 or 0/30/30/0/10
Is there something wrong with my build or am i playing it wrong? Even with blindfields a gs warrior just outdpses me.
Thanks
Actually your backstabs hit exactly the same, no matter what weapon set you use. Use your logics, woman.

Mind the insults above, but yes, your Backstab deal exactly the same as D/D, it’s just D/D hits a chunk with Cloak and Dagger and vulnerability stacks.
Strength Runes is now the go-to runes for damage. Allows you stack quite a bit of might consistently during a fight, while doing 7% more damage. 0/6/5/3/0 is now slightly better with Power of Inertia trait for damage.
Your backstab do only like 5-7k now on a Warrior, which is more or less 1/5 or 1/4 of their HP. Expect longer fights and using Autoattacks more.
if you run beserker equip (high crit chance) then I can propose the following:
classical 0/6/6/2/0 (I use fast movement in stealth instead of Power of Inertia), beserker + runes of strength, executioner trait, and food for 8% dmg while moving.
So you will get 7% from runes, 8% from food and 20% from executioner when you foe gets <50% HP. Furthermore you will get additional power from migth stacks.
Thanks for the help. That being said, is it more efficient to run s/d or d/d now? Im sure they have as equally as high skill cap but perhaps may prove better in the might stack meta.
(Yes, my backstabs do hit the same =_= i meant burst seemed higher due to a guaranteed cnd backstab as kind guy above me pointed out)

IMHO the most efficient weapon set at WWW is still d/p. I mean small roaming.
With the new ferocity patch, i find myself playing a little less offensively, rather, i’d be stacking blinds with shadowshot/blinding powder and using auto attacks a lot more. A useful tip is auto attacking inside BP until it nearly runs out, then heartseekering for stealth and a critical hit if they’re close enough. Whether they stay outside your BP or come in and try burst you down, you have many options, switch to shortbow and range dps them down, or stealthing to try and close the gap. I am also finding that Precision is scaling rather close to ferocity, with not being able to rely on huge crit chunks here and there (also with the chance you might miss/hit them from the front), you have to find a way to sustain a stable dps through auto attacks, shadow shots and heartseeker.
Personally, i am still using the “old” build of 0/6/6/2/0 with travelers, and although damage isn’t nearly as good if you might stacked with runes of strength (i’ve ran both sets), but i love my movespeed and i find you’re able to sustain yourself and survive better against many classes.

That makes absolutely no sense, you realise that? If you are using the same build for both weapon-sets, there is no difference in BS damage and obviously D/P has more survivability, especially when you are exchanging auto-attacks with anything for that matter.

Try using speed runes instead of traveler. You lose like, 2% crit dmg and 40 power in exchange for 1500hp, and still retain the movement speed. I find it helps a lot since fights are now longer and conditions are more prevalent.
I use D/P for the utility, and not so much the stealth. IF I really need to gtfo I use the bps+Hs combo to escape but otherwise blinds interrupts and constantly hopping around are enough for sustain damage. The poison on the aa is quite important to get through, or you’ll just be countering regeneration on those heavies.
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”
