Dagger Auto Attack Chain?
well theres a bunch of stuff, such as generally a bit faster, more hits (thus more on hit effects such as signet of malice), endurance regen on second chain and poison on third plus higher damage stealth attack.
Dagger has smaller hits, but is faster. Sword hits slower and harder. Against single targets Dagger does more dps. Just take both weapons, use sword against normals adds and daggers against bosses.
Additionally, at least for my playstyle, the slot 2 and 3 skills on the dagger are better to those available for the sword. YMMV, of course, but weapons are balanced according to the full package, not just the first slot.
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
Not only does dagger hit faster (Dagger chain takes 2 seconds to complete, sword chain takes about 2.4 seconds to complete)
But a lot of Dagger’s damage comes from other abilities (Backstab, Heartseeker, Shadow Shot, Death Blossom) while Sword primarily uses Auto-Attacks to deal damage (Occasionally Pistol Whip, though it does about the same DPS as auto-attacking)
There’s two kinds of people… The quick and the dead”
You can trigger more effects with faster weapons.
Dagger does way more AA damage than sword overall, as well as with all it’s other skills. Sword is more for support and utility.
actually the AA damage tends towards even, with sword getting way more as soon as theres more than one target.
People that think sword is support/utility haven’t actually used it and people that think dagger is meant to be pure burst are blinded by their own limitations.
Dagger chain does about the same damage as the sword chain. As it only hits a single target, it is a little on the weak side.
Daggers get substantially more damage from the other skills on its bar, however, while sword skills do little to amplify damage.
It probably is in line for a slight buff (10% or so) once burst has been toned down a bit, but nothing drastic.

I carry all available weapons on me and switch often depending on situation and how bored I am at the time. Dagger more dmg. Sword more support/utility. Yeah.
Unless you wanna consider killing things faster equaling the best way to support.
The base dps for Dagger auto-attack chain is actually quite a bit higher when you count the poison damage because the chain is faster at 2 seconds compared to sword’s 2.4 seconds.
However; at endgame swords actually have slightly higher weapon damage and the attacks actually scale slightly better with power. So by the time you’re in endgame berserker gear, sword and dagger tend to put out about the same auto-attack dps against a single target.
Obviously sword trounces dagger against more than 1 mob, but the strength in Dagger isn’t in the auto-attack chain, it’s in the skills. Heartseeker and Backstab can dramatically increase your single target damage with Dagger. None of the sword skills increase your DPS in any meaningful way over auto-attack.
You can’t just ignore the skills and say the auto-attack chain should do more damage.

Why does it do way less damage than sword when its single target compared to AoE? It also lacks the cripple the sword chain has.
If anything the single target auto attack should do more damage than the AoE one… or at least add some kind of posistional component to the attack which increases the damage on par or greater than the sword chain.
If you run the numbers, they are really close to each other. Sword does slightly higher direct damage dps, but when you add in the poison damage from Dagger, Dagger pulls ahead in overall dps. That’s just single target, though.
Utility…
Dagger:
2s poison healing debuff
Gain 10 endurance
3s weakness debuff (if you have 15 in DA)
Sword:
2s Cripple
2s Weakness
Capable of hitting multiple targets if they stand right next to each other.
They seem pretty comparable to me, overall.
