Daredevil SUPER squishy!
On the contrary. Daredevil gives Thieves a ton of damage mitigation with both evades and damage reduction modifiers. Just keep playing around with your build. I run Marauder stats on my Daredevil and while I’m no Warrior, I can take a couple good hits without going down.
the problem is with us
so much time we spend as d/p with stealth kiting than with staff with no stealth we dont know how to handle ….
with my p/p build which i took 2 months b4 the release i train alot without stealth and now i manage it just fine with bound
maybe we will see more s/d comeback along side the d/p meta (i dont think d/p need DD)
but staff atm need adjustment for gamestyle
this is the problem with sticking to 1 set (d/x) it rlys toomuch on stealth, and even the burst comes from stealth, now all of a suddon a trait line that dosnt rely on stealth comes out, people struggle with it. currently using da/trickery/dd as s/d and its amazing! the weakness on crit hits, the remove condtion on dodge and the sprint on dodge too (-10% for a few seconds and the awsome 13 seconds of swiftness)
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
Well why do you think they give you 3 dodges, use them to survive.
No issues really here, DA/DD/CS 100% zerk, channeled vigor, shadowstep, signet of agility, & shadow refuge. Dodge, vault, dodge, vault. Naturally, if it’s too much knockback or some big cleave from champions/legendaries, range, it’s silly, but well it gets the job done. In open world specifically because you’re basically on your own even in a party lol
I’ve been having no survivability issues, I’m running a combination of Soldier and Knight for Armor, Staff is Marauder, and S/P is Assassin. I have a sigil of stamina on the staff so my endurance is almost always maxed or near maxed.
For example: In Auric basin I was able to solo 2 Itzel Shadow leapers, 1 Vet Itzel Flopper, and a Mordem leecher. You just have to keep moving, don’t stop, and try and refill your endurance as much as you can while dishing out damage. Using the interrupts and blinds you have available is extremely powerful, keep the pressure up and things will fall over dead more than you will.
During the night event I took part in last night I only died once out of the whole deal.
Just, Keep, moving, and you’ll be good!
Just like Mr. Miyagi said, “The best defense is not to be there.” You won’t need a lot of health and defense if you stay on the move. The only reason to go Knights or Valkyrie is if you are trying to use the “My face to foot” style. I should warn you, this is not a good technique!
my only problem with staff is that it being melee I can’t do much with it with canopy bosses that usually have a lot of fire near them, so I usually use shortbow or p/p for those. but I’m doing relatively good with it so far.
I’m planning to run zerker.
I just need to figure out how to get dash, improv, and stealth on steal all into one build.
without giving up trickery.
ponders heavily
Zarin Mistcloak(THF) Valkyrie Mistblade(WAR) Kossori Mistwalker(REV) Durendal Mistward(GRD)
I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
I am not having those survival issues at all in the expansion area and do very well against the champions and creatures found there. I solo several of these creatures at a time and will solo multiple packs of those raptors.
Build one in valkyrie a power build using P/P and staff with Dash. Vault used for multiple enemies. Evade from the staff 3 mixed in with dodges. Staff attacks replenish those dodges.
Build two is a Shaman build Condition guy ising d/d as main weapon set sb off hand. I sacrificed condition damage for more healing and using a mix of leeching venoms , SOM and have oodles of healing coming in. When I take on packs of an enemy the multitude of evades and dodges (db works SO much better now in the d/d set with the added evade) health stays right near the top. A daggerstorm mixed in as I get endurance/ini back helps keep health topped off.
I took this build into WvW and soloed a tower that was full upgraded so it had 4 scrouts 4 guards the chapion and those wizard npcs all clustered in one spot and took all down but the champion whom I was working on when another of our side showed to help finish him. I did not stealth once.
Being in those confined areas used to be dangerous. Using DB and dodges it now works against the enemy.
if you mix your dodges with the attacks and keep moving around quickly you will have lots of staying power.
Play around with your build some more, man. It took me a bit, but now I feel incredibly strong and super durable. I ran full zerk for a while, ended up switching 6 pieces over to valk and kept weapons and accessories, neck & rings zerker. Only so that I can take a bigger hit and not get 1 shot from some champs.
I feel like I’m running pvt gear with the amount of damage mitigation DD has.
yeah, i’m planning on switching out of zerk
Marauder stats look like they were made for Daredevil imo
+Power
+Precision
+Vitality
+Ferocity
I just gotta figure out how to get the inscription….it’s not on exalted, itzel, or exalted vendors….so maybe it’s the Dragon’s Stand vendor?

Just talk to the Leatherworker trainer. It’s in there with all the other inscriptions. I’m on my phone, so don’t remember the exact mats, but, at least for now, it’s cheaper than zerker to make.

I have swapped out from zerk to marauder and it has made open world HoT so much easier, I can afford to make mistakes and survive a hit now! I now understand how to play staff way more as well, so may slowly change things back to zerk but to be honest the dps feels pretty similar, and the extra 3k health makes a huge difference. I’m also using runes of scrapper for extra toughness and 7% damage reduction, but also thinking of changing those back to something more dps oriented, though will wait to see what the raids are like first. Just need to keep experimenting with your build.
Im Using Critical Strikes, Trickery and DareDevil. When i first started using the staff 3 nights ago it felt so jicky with the dodges and the Staff 2 Skill. However, after a couple of hours you start to get the hang of it. Im currently in Full Zerkers and i can manage to stay alive quite a bit (even more so now with the evade from Staff 5). However, i feel like all that damage isn’t necessary and I am still being downed entirely too much. I’m definitely going for Marauder Ascended pieces. That extra vitality at the cost of some precision seems more than worth it (with the Superior DD set too).
Gate of Madness – Chaos Legion (CL)
dunno what you talking about im litreally untouchable having played only s/d all my thief even when it got nerfed i find it very easy and pretty much even OP
The best build we have found is a one-trick pony. S/P along with Pistol Whip, Mug, Immobilize, Impacting Disruption, Daze, etc all in one shot. When it lands, it annihilates in a small AoE area. Everything else is about creating distance when that fails. Pretty neat trick since you evade everything while in Pistol Whip and can bounce beyond chase limits when needed.
This is a friends build and not mine. It is working well for him and nothing can catch this thing:
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”

Actually it’s not at all hard to melee canopy bosses. They don’t stand in their own fire, so to melee them you just have to get all up in their grill and dode toward their back then for the big hits/any mobility attacks.

This is not even remotely true. 30 thorns is already 30 silver… and then 3 ebony orbs = 6g. That’s 6g30s already for one insignia… without including the ecto/gossamer costs. The material requirement is way too high for this. Should only be one ebony orb as it is a very rare drop from Orrian Saplings (ancient log trees) plus 30 thorns is a pretty beefy number.
I’ve been running Staff/SB with Zerk armor, and runes of the brawler. I feel like the runes give enough toughness to help you sustain a bit longer in a fight, but not lose out on damage. I run Weakening Strikes, Staff Master and Bound, with Fist Flurry and Impact Strike, and i really love being able to hop around, with a consistent 10% damage increase, but not really have to worry about dying instantaneously.

I think you might like Rune of the Daredevil even more….same as brawler, but the 6 piece is “Next attack garaunteed to crit after completing a dodge roll in combat”
