Dead Eye
Deadeye looks incredibly boring. Enjoy your recycled Warrior rifle Thieves.
top kek.
When you do things right, people won’t be sure you’ve done anything at all.
Anet will find a way to make this insanely OP while also being weak, and then they’ll buff the weak part and it’ll just be insanely OP.
kitten elite but since its a new elite u make it insane OP so u gotta buy the expansion in order to play properly.
who kitten wants rifle on a thief >.<
Looks like we’re also getting cantrips and new “malice” mechanic.
Thief | Mesmer | Elementalist
The animations didn’t look very appealing and ranged DPS from the Rifle will probably be lower than Staff (or else it would be OP in Fractals and against some raid bosses).
I don’t see what you’re supposed to do with rifle animations. You can only hold a gun so many ways and still fire accurately at long distances. Are they supposed to go full-on marine marching drill team on the thing?
A bit sad I wasn’t seeing any prone animations though, but… Knowing Anet, they would just disappear into “Uneven” terrain unless they originate 12 feet above the ground.
Jumping Gunners ftw.
Not all that concerned with the rifle, I want to see the traits and how they affect my Unload Sprays.
We all new this was coming. Not convinced by the specialization concept. Seems boring. Hope we get a spot on for every profession.

I haven’t been excited about rifle but those animations don’t look bad really, they look like the right amount of snappiness and aren’t too ridiculous, that jump back animation in the video is the kind of elastic snappiness I wish sword animations would have. Would have liked to have seen a prone along with that kneel but close enough.
NSP
I fear dp will still be most popular pvp build

I know what you mean dude but it’s not impossible. Imagine a toon pulling out a canister of gun powder, hurling it at the enemy and firing at it mid air to make it explode on the enemy. That would be sick, 600 range and it could apply a blind.

If this pans out, im going d/p and rifle (instead of P/P)
- I am currently a main thief roamer for SF in WvW. LOVE ME!
- {SOAP} Solo/Havoc roamer, lover of good fights
do we know if rifle is condi based or power based?
At least there is a mobility skill on it. But otherwise, its not quite what I had in mind. Although I’m curious how the contract mechanic works.
If they give back Ricochet Trait with deadeye all i can say just that alone will make it worth it to ALOT of players… basicly will be all those players not stuck in a mold that thief is a melee class peroid , end of sentance, but instead is something better.
Straght from gw2 stream with potatos who presented live gameplay of deadeye in pvp lobby.
WOW dead eye so trash in pvp, iam calling it now. Much worse than daredevil.

Nothing will ever be as good as Daredevil unless it’s broken numerically.
The concept for Daredevil is about as strong as one can possibly make thief.
Bad spec design is bad, however.

Complaining complaining complaining…. ehh.. people always complain, always. It can be anything and people will complain… C’mon, at least wait until it is released.

An overwhelming majority of Thief players are your run-of-the-mill “get to da choppah” them vs. the world main character action heroes. And that does not seem what Deadeye is going to be. Deadeye looks like it will make their character the co-star, rather than stealing the show – something some people can’t handle.

The term “op” gets thrown around way too much without being used properly.
There’s nothing “op” about deadeye based on what has been seen and what is known.
Its “killshot” (which requires 2 skills) is not unblockable either…unlike warrior’s (which you can turn unblockable).
So, unless you consider 1-shotting yourself thanks to the plethora of reflects in the game, or burning large amounts of your initiatives on blocks/evades/invul spams that all the other classes have at their disposal “op”, then there’s nothing “op” about deadeye.
Will bad players die to it? Of course…they die to nearly everything. Will they complain about it? Of course…they complain about everything. Is WvW primarily comprised of bad players that feel they’re good when they kill someone while blobbing? Yes…so, you can expect those complaints flooding in.
It seems like it will be very annoying in WvW and low-level PvP.
Kneel mode will most likely only be good in short bursts/openers. I like that there are two different “modes” to rifle, there the Run and Gun type playstyle and then theres the sniper playstyle.
I’m thinking Acro/TR/DE will be good for mobility and survivability while running and gunning (more of a shotgun playstyle) while DA or SA instead of Acro will be more oriented toward the burst/sniper playstyle.

I agree with that. No so much the recycled warrior statement, but with the spec being rather boring insofar as we have seen. Quite a disappointment coming from the very exciting and dynamic Daredevil.
Deadeye does look to be the worst of all the new elites imo. What is this going to do to steal, the class’ main mechanic? You can’t steal with a sniper rifle. C’mon.

Steal still works.. just from range without moving you.. via spoopy shadow magic…
And you can generate stolen items from certain skills, so I guess you just find random booty.

Ehhh, lets not bring realism into this fantasy game where you can turn into a ball of energy and shoot forward 1200 units. Or teleport. Or make someone bleed by yelling at them.

If we are going to go that far down the reducto adsurdum trail, then everyone should be able to fly and do whatever they want. Every class gets every skill, yeah! After all, it’s a fantasy game. The fact that the game has ‘mechanics’ means that there are some rules in place.

Then use your imagination just like you do with all the other unrealistic mechanics in this game that are also not explained. Here’s my imagination providing me with a satisfactory justification on the steal: “Shadow magic shadow-steps the item to my hand.” Amazing.

I don’t think it’ll be OP so much as anti-fun.
You can be a fantastic player and get one-shotted by some guy 1500 out from stealth. I think this class is just going to be mostly people taking pot-shot cheesy 1HKO attempts on others from range, or CS/SA/DE D/P signet thieves getting 40k stabs in other cheese with safe restealth. There really seems to be a definitive lack of skill required to play this spec with a lot of potential payout.
It might not be OP, but neither is something like a 1% chance to deal 50k damage to your target on-hit. Landing 100 hits begs you’d kill the player and is objectively more than what’s needed in most builds, but on the off chance the stars align for it very early on, there’s no way to really deal with it.
The Deadeye implementation we’ve been shown is simply poor design for the health of the competitive side of the game. It’s anti-fun to play against, like other things that have been revealed so far.

One shooting ppl from 1500 units will never happen. here is why.
1) You need to place a HUGE VISIBLE shiny mark over there heads
2) Build up 7 stacks of malice (that will take a long time to build up)
3) Hope that after 1 and 2 the target is still in range for you to take the shot
4) Pray that it does not get REFLECTED, blocked, dodged, immune and so on
On a fast paced PvP game like gw2 this specialization will never work. (imo)
PvE spec.
I don’t see how it will work in pve either. Well, maybe the traitline will but that rifle certainly won’t. You need to move your ass in raids, that kneeling thing just won’t work. Even if you can dodge with the kneel that’s just not enough in raids. Need to be able to haul kitten

I agree with this. The concept of kneeling for damage is cute but it’s antithetical to the concept of thieves as I understand them and in sharp opposition to the design of the rest of the game. Everything up to this point in the game trains you to move, dodge, run now you want us to kneel? Ok… Negan.
That said, I assume that Anet’s mind is made up. They did succeed in designing a new play style. I will try the spec but not likely to use rifle. The mechanics that I wanted for the thief ended up with the Revenant(Renegade) short bow /sigh.

Yes, a marked player will know he is marked. This very unlike a person getting hit by a gunflame or by someone out of stealth with a backstab. If that Mark goes up he has in essence an extra big and obvious tell .
