Deadeye fun to play boring to be
that’s always been the thing of a backline single target glass cannon. While you put in all the effort to kill 1 guy, the frontline train drive through the enemy zerg and tag 20-30 bags, while you barely have 2. 1 single sniper will never really change the game unless you happen to down the enemy pin.
The thing is they do drastically change things a single kill is a huge deal if they are in the main squad. and Deadeye can reach the backlines with its 1500 range allowing it to eliminate support and DPS
If i decide to join the zerg on deadeye, my only objective is gank the commander, focus fire the backliners, and work on dealing with flankers skirting around the zerg fight.
A single target glass cannon with that much range can be invaluable if you make the right choices.
I know the amount of discipline required would be too much for usual WvW squads, but wouldn’t it be possible to create a full Deadeye squad ?
Something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1vWK2yf9Y0
If you think it’s not possible in WvW then think about this setup :
- Lines of kneeled Deadeyes with action cam to avoid the targeting problem.
- Use waves of rile skill #2. The pierce + immob to remove stab from the ennemies.
- Use roll for initiative + withdraw to keep the lines while maintaining distance.
- Add some mesmers for quickness & feedback protection bubbles.

I heard stories about people trying small teams of deadeyes. When they all focus on the same target, its just ridiculous how fast they can pick people off. That was until the other team got wise, and started sending their flankers after them.

I joined such a team in WvW. We were 5 deadeyes without voice comm. It is really powerful. Once on position we held the rock between Redbriar and the bottom left spawn from the borderland. We could snipe every guys coming against us, even outnumbered. The problem lies in the way to deal with positioning, when one start to crumble, the entire group has trouble.
I believe that with a voice comm you can effectively reset fights as a DE group. I mean theoretically, a squad could run shadow trap and have the whole squad disengage easily^^
they should do something with shadow trap it is really unreliable and buggy.
if it is not used on flat ground it always gets cut short, u need to be perfectly lined up with a return spot for it to work other wise you are SOL and will get cut short of the return location.
I mean I wish the skill was reliable but it is not, and that in combination with the long cast time pretty much make it nothing but a gamic- if u can find a little area where it does not bug out to much it could be a lot of fun but the skill should not get caught up as much as it does

In a zerg fight, I think your best role is as a skirmisher, largely finishing what others have started. So you kill stragglers & reinforcements. Finish downed players after the clash. Kill the one or two lowest who just barely live through the clash.

deadeyes can get amazing results like that ranged nuking the downs so they dont rally is very important
-1- sniper has a massive impact in a fight than you think :/. Doesn’t matter if you’re defending or attacking. Deadeye deals a CRAPLOAD of damage to a single target, and can outright kill them before they even get a chance to do anything.
So what makes deadeye impactful? You have the EASIEST time killing artilary mages. you know, those mages that can really ruin a zerg with just one half- kitten placed AOE. You can kill players who are using siege engines on walls. You can kill players who are using things like catapults or battering rams. Or… you can just be like me and systematically kill zerglings one at a time while they scramble about to try and find something fun to do. You’ll probably have racked up plenty of kills before the zerg finally decides to go crashing in.

You can kill players who don’t pay attention. A magic trick surely just deadeye can do.
Beside trolling, deadeye won’t have a decent place.
