Dealing with bleeder thieves
Elona Bonechill – Necro / Fionna Gymirdottier – Guard /// RoF
The longer the fight the better for him. If you cannot burst his health down low with some pws he is probably gonna end up winning. If you run into these alot you might want to trait for condition removal and healing in stealth.
Thx, I have healing in stealth but with my main source of damage being s/p my burst comes from pw, which is quite initiative heavy to land, so I cannot just spam infiltrator strike. I’ll just accept that I should stay away from these thieves until I come across some uber counter for them. I guess it would be maybe conditions, but I have a ranger for that.

When I played condition thief myself, the hardest counter used to be zerker thieves instakilling me. I was pistol/dagger though, not dagger/dagger.
Just realized one thing. Sword skill #2 removes one condition on second cast, which can be used to counter his bleed damage.
Hope it helps
Yeah I know. But I’ll just need to start nailing that pw timing if I want to beat them, because of the evade on deathblossom, or I will start relying on autoattack. But then there is cripple from the caltrops. Meh… I’m used to being kicked around on my ranger, as I wasn’t running the op regen ranger build. Thief just felt so good until Today.

The problem is your weapon set, if you want to hard counter a bleeder thief, just go with d/p,d/d or s/d and use remove condition on stealth and heal in stealth. This makes a bleeder thief completely useless, every 3rd second you go into stealth you remove all his bleeds and regain hp.
Then he have 2 choices, run or die. He cant do anything to beat you at that point.

i played this build for a few weeks. very fun. semi hard to master (one mistake = death) but i notice that eles own this build….. d/p could never kill me unless im bad :P. i personally ran 0 0 10 30 30 (10 for condi removal on invis). i was d/d most of the time but i found if i wanted to play the build seriously i had to go p/d on the off set bc good condi builds just owned it. if the build is right he literally has evades for days. the best time to hit him is during death blossom (at the beginning or more preferablly after the 2nd half) bc its only 1/4 sec evade on a 1 sec move. that gives you 3/4 of a sec of free hits. this also means you need to either clear the bleeds or stun/immob him while u burst him down. hope this helpd
Home boy I’ll give you a shout.
Death Blossom isn’t full evade frames there is a delay before the evade frames start and a bit of an after cast before they can do it again.
Because of this if you utilize timing you can prevent future death blossoms with Headshot and even Pistol whip, tactical strike, sleight of hand or Scorpion wire reliably assuming you don’t have significant latency issues.
Simultaneously with a good PW they won’t be able to immediately counteract due to your own evade frames and when your ready you can Shadow return out to prevent him taking advantage of your root.
Don’t over prioritize condi removal here, as generally you there isn’t many to remove in the first place even if venoms are thrown in the occassion. You throw a shadow return in here and there if you make a mistake, otherwise save the ini, and blow him up.

@ensoriki i was saying i ran a lil condi removal when i played the d/d evade spam bleed build bc its weakness is conditions.
I know its not a full evade, but PW has a cast time, and I’ll need some teleport to land it, so it will take some timing. I was rather thinking about kiting him with SB actually. That way I can apply poison as well, so maybe he will has less heal.

I’m currently playing P/D condi-thief. CC is probably the best counter since the thief class doesn’t really offer much stunbreakers (honestly, Blinding Powder should be a stunbreaker).

If you dont want to run condition removal and cant kill him, why not just walk away? Youre a Thief, you should be able to just leave in a manner he cant follow you. When I find these thieves, I kill them in 10 seconds or I leave. I dont waste time messing with them because theyre not worth the effort. Theyll never kill me, ever, and if theyre built right and play correctly it’ll take me 5+ minutes to kill them, so I just dont bother.
Well I want to give it a couple more tries before I put him down on my arch nemesis list. If it won’t work with shortbow, than I’ll just run next time. I hate stealth and the reliance of certain thief builds on it. That is why I run s/p sb. I find that you can deal nice damage even with pistolwhip, and I find it riskier than a perma stealth build because of my limited access to stealth (basically SR, HiS and Steal). I think its the s/p s/d type of gameplay that would fit the thief well, with their defense mainly coming from evade or blind/interrupt. And even s/p seems cheesy against certain builds. I was fighting a power build BM ranger last week, none of us managed to down the other. But at least I didn’t make sleep/no/shrug emotes while he was struggling to even hit me (pet included) while I just sat in my smoke field.

Just use your S/P better.
yeah..d/d evade bleed builds can almsot never catch anyone…unless they run something like me with long reach + SoH

You can still run shadowstep + inflitrators signet for 3 stunbreakers in total. P/d thief stays ranged so you can use skill #3 to get away from melee range cc.

I won’t change class because I ran into a bloody bleeding thief.

Yeah, i’m currently using Infiltrator’s Signet, Signet of Shadows (for Speed) and Spider Venom + Basilisk Venom as elite (Venomshare for smallscale).
/edit: In groups i’m switching Signet of Shadows for Shadow Refuge when our supporters manage enough swiftness.

You need condi removal to beat condi thieves. How is that not obvious?
Either use your #2 skill or drop your shortbow for d/p and get shadows embrace from shadow arts line.
I run full berserker and scholars with 0/30/30/10/0 and have never had a problem with condi thieves. I stealth just as much ad they bleed and I regen more hp than they deal. I backstab for 8k even with thier tanky condi gear.

Why do you automatically make the assumption that I’m dumb? If you would’ve read what I wrote you already new that I know about condi clear but I don’t have much of it. Sword #2 is 4 initiative, pw is 5, so either I use my pw which doesn’t down that guy cause he is not a glass cannon, and than I have limited uses of #2, or I use #2 more often, and then I need to auto attack him with sword. But he is using dodge on caltrops, so he can apply a lot of cripple and bleeds that way. And the fact that you never had problem with condi thieves doesn’t help me in the slightest. I wish people would stop using that comment, cause it never ever helped anyone ever. I also wrote why I don’t run a d/p backstab build. Actually I was looking for some help from s/p wvw thieves but there aren’t many. I only came across this 1 condi thief, so its not the end of the world, just wanted some fresh perspective from others.
