Death Blossom's evasive move
Even Heartseeker has this issue if a mob dies from an unexpected big hit/crit and you HS again so it leaps at a new target, or just the direction you’re facing.
This proved twice lethal when I was trying to get a Skill Point up on wooden platforms in a Dredge area.
It would be OK if not for the “new target”/“no target” behaviour of both abilities, but as it is, especially with ability queues, something needs to change, i.e. stop such leaps/whirls short at the edge of drops.
Well it is kinda in the name “Leaping” Death Blossom but yeah I do know what you mean I once used it and leapt off the side off a cliff…and then died. I was not happy.
But maybe instead of spamming 3 you could hit 3, wait to land reposition and then hit 3
Maybe you could try this:
- open the keyboard shortcut setting
- under “Movement” you’ll see “About face” option and assign your prefered key there (mine is X, you could try Q/E
- or just rotate your camera and press the W/S key once. (I prefer this method, quicker and that’s how I used to spam DB, no problem at all)
GW2 allow total control of your character so IMO you have to do this manually.
Hey fijea,
that’s something new to me. I remember something like that from other games and it makes sense to use this in GW2 for this case. I’ll definitely give it a try next time I log in
I think it’s based of the position of the target, namely the way the target is facing. Usually, for me, it’s pretty straight forward when I start spamming it. I’m either behind or infront of the target. It’s happen to me sometimes too when the target faced something else and the “leap” adapted to his position and I ened up taking a tumble down some cliff. Best advice to offer is to avoid using it when there’s a pretty good chance you’ll end up falling.
You just need to use a bit of common sense. It will always leap in the direction of the target, and usually over them to their opposite side. If there’s something on the opposite side of the target that you don’t want to leap into just don’t use the skill, or reposition yourself first, it’s not that hard.
Because there are no cooldowns for thief skills, and because there is a skill queue, if you are hitting the #3 key multiple times you’ll often find yourself jumping all over the place when you didn’t mean to.
You just have to press #3 once, let the animation carry out (because you can’t do anything during that time anyway), and then decide what to do when you land; reposition yourself, turn the camera, leap right back over them again.
Just be careful not to hit the skill keys multiple times on a thief because they will queue up and fire off back to back because there are no cooldowns. This is not a problem with any other profession in the game.

I believe you can turn that behavior off in the options.
Answer: Don’t spam. Get a couple autoattacks in between Death Blossoms, or Heartseekers. Considering the autoattack 3rd attack applies a bleed, it’s in your best interest to use it. Manage your initiative and become a better player overall.
GW2 queues up attacks. If you press a key a few times, they will activate as long as there is initiative to do so. Make deliberate attacks and you’ll be fine.
Just one of those things you have to take into consideration when playing. It’s like how you don’t want to hit Pistol Whip when a mob is running around, or unload when the target is obstructed; you need to be aware of your surroundings and what’s going on. Simply put, look before you leap.
