I do have plenty of condi clear. However it isn’t right that they can deal so much damage AND evade everything and when you clear their condis they go right back into death blossoming again.

There needs to be longer cooldown duration on that death blossom.

a DB only extends to melee range. Added to that the animation locked in that once started it pretty easy to determine where they will land.

If you stand under a person doing DB spam and try swinging at him you will lose more often than not as this is exactly what he wants you to do. When he starts the DB dodge back, backpedal back , just get out of melee range. Allow him to do this a few times and his INI gone no more DB. Thieves do not have cooldowns on their weapon skills. Instead they are linked to INI which they have a finite amount of.

Now Impaling lotus is a little different. This has a great ranger in the evade itself and the missiles have greate range. A thief tends to mix these two up so it hard to tell which is which.

The best way to counter these builds with your own attacks is through stuns or immobs. Drop a field/trap/aoe where they will land.

Thief do not have any cooldowns, they use initiative. Maybe if you study thief class mechanics a bit you might stand a better chance to counter them by learning the weak spots of the profession.

No offence, but if I can kill deathblossom thieves with S/P then any meta build should be able to do the same. It’s an incredibly passive build all told, as it’s entirely reliant on two animations that both have punish frames. Make him waste his ini then stun him for a burst, rinse and repeat.

What class are you on? If you tell us what you play, we can offer some more constructive advice than L2P. If it’s a case of just not liking the build conceptually, then suck it up. I hate DH but I don’t want it nerfed into oblivion just because of a build concept.

So, I actually play this build, and it’s not that hard to defeat. Eventually i will run out of INI and dodges, and that would be the time to strike. Watch for when the thief stops bouncing around then slam them.

the animation is longer than the evasion, just time hard cc at the end of blossom and ur set. get condi cleanse aswell and only use if many stacks, dry them out of init and dodges.

No to fight this build the first half of the DB animation is the evade once it reaches the top of the flip it can’t do anything besides get punished, so start the burst then and Cc any immobs will kill this build once you have condis on Thief don’t spam attacks when they are DB spamming since that will clear the condis on them, you can kite the DB thief they have crap for mobility and rely on you standing directly underneath them in one spot.

It sounds like Yin doesn’t know how to move out from under the Thief and kite them when they blow Ini.

@ Aeolus thieves actually need to have preparedness baseline since Anet wants to balance around a 15 Ini pool instead of the 12 Ini baseline Ini pool.

The Really hard evade thieves to kill are those who sacrifice their condi burst for pure survival.

  • Trickery, Acrobatics, Daredevil (With Lotus)
  • Withdraw, Roll for initiative, Signet of Agility, Bandit’s Defense, Impact Strike

(this is what I played)

But they give up most of their offense and if you kite them or if you are a DH you can solo them fairly easily. Unless you are power Rev as the build Massively hard counters them.

A perfect thread that shows, how cluelessly peopel want to see Thief nerfed, when its basically just a personal case of “learn to play” or just in this case.. learn the class you want to see nerfed, before you shout it out to be nerfed.

Theres a difference in evade thieves..

There are those with condi builds, that evade you with condi spam together to death.
This become due to HoT just more cancerous thanks to the condi dodge style that addes to all dodges more condi damage spam

There are those, which use them effectively only to avoid dangerous attacks and otherwise fight you with stealth and burst attacks, because they know how to hurt you bad quickly and when and where it hursts the most, that are the pro thieves, which know how to dodge and these players dodge really only, when its absolutely neccessary, they don’t spam dodge, because they know very well how quickly this can bring them into a bad situation if they should ever run out of ini or dodges when its the most needed.

And then there are Troll Dodgers, people which builded their thieves just for the sole purpose, to annoy their enemies to hell, just to show you, how good of survivalists they are andhow long they can avoid from being hit by you, because thats their only way they have to get some attention in their poor lives by trolling people with that build in WvW, thats essentialyl what emkelly described (not that I described now what I think of him, please don’t missunderstand, but thats personally the type of thief I as thief self hate the most to fight against lol xD, because fighting as thief agaisnt a troll dodger thief is like the most annoying fight ever in the whole game, especially when both thieves are like equally skilled combatants, a battle for true eternities)

Anet has nerfed the thief class due to too many clueless people screaming for nerfs out of various reasons over the last years way too often, that now the point is reached, that the class has been totally nerfed already to death.
The has has been done through the recently existign powercreep of E-Specs and the terrible rework of the condition system since 23rd june of 2015’s patch and Anets constant ignorance tolook over also all other important aspects of the games combat system to get rebalanced, other than tweaking permanently only skills and traits, as if the games combat and class balancing would consist only out of skills and traits rolleyes

As a small tip to the OP…

Play first for a while a Thief Character, battle for few months with that character in WvW and PvP and then return and say again ,that this joke of a class needs further nerfs like you propose >.>

I know Gingerbread Man is annoying, when I created it I instantly thought, “EMKelly, you are an evil, evil, troll of a man.”

So no offense taken. I’m very proud that it annoys you to no end. It’s very annoying, but still not broken. I’ve been very clear with people on how to kill it.

Probably OP is with mesmer just relying with clones and stay still or not move move much(wich is mandatory as a mesmer if ur squishy), he needs lure thief better.

While I do believe this build is stupidly broken for how little skill it takes to play it and how in WvW it can with almost pure ease 1v1 anything in the game so long as it’s played with half a brain, I would be hesitant to nerf DB itself or the condition application or simply decalre the build in general as definitively overpowered or warranting a nerf to the thief in this case.

I’d personally much rather see all forms of sustained damage during sustained defenses removed from the game and DB’s bleeding along with it and moved elsewhere to promote more skilled gameplay as a whole (and to let DB get a rework to be an actually good skill), but that’s just me.

Death Blossom doesn’t have a CD. It uses 4 initiative (I think), so what you want is a higher cost.

You just need to be patient. D/D #3 doens’t need any nerf, it just got a small buff anyways.
It’s the same rule for defeating every and any thief and even more so for D/D condi Thief, because they heavily rely on dodges.

Make them waste their dodges, don’t rush and interrupt them in the begging, since they tend to spam, then it shoudl be GG.
