Dev please explain Shaving
They are buffing builds that do not use ini regenerative traits by giving a larger base. It will also open up options to pick other traits (which may or may not be useless lol)
They are nerfing the traits themselves because certain builds which abuse certain mechanics would be able to do so even more.
Not alot of people are happy but that’s just natural. Overall I think Dec 10 is good for the class and game.
I think theya re nerfing it a bit hard and without much to compensate. And as stated by OP they claim to give a 33% increase which is a LIE considering it is only from .75/sec to 1/sec. Check my post history, i usually am the one saying calm down, Thief is still fine after nerfs. But this time i really believe a mistake has been made.

I don’t want to be that guy, but 0.25 IS 33% out of 0.75. The 25% you are talking about would be the 0.25 increase, out of 1 second. Now, I agree that these changes aren’t shaving at all. Unless shaving means cutting it 50%
All due respect heizero but lets hope that you are wrong because if a mistake has been made then there is a serious issue. The “math” behind it should be under the heaviest of testing before any wind of preview notes.
At first I was only bothered by the nerf to shadow return but I Will take that on the chin to see the death of abusive builds.
Real problem is with my thiefs’ current hp pool the hits to avoidance with no mention of a different damage mitigation or promise of stable 25ms connection… this shaving ‘nick’ is gonna kill me
I just don’t understand the direction here. They say they want to reward and incentivize Thieves for sticking in a fight instead of leaving and coming back later but theya re directly nerfing opportunist which is one of the traits that allows us to do that. A trait specifically rewarding continuous strikes.
Aside from that they want to nerf our evades by crushing our vigor availability and at the same time nerf our init gain to make stealth more difficult to hold. So they want to nerf our 2 main defensive mechanics without giving us anything to compensate? I just don’t see where they are going with this….

I guess they figured assassins reward was enough? Everyone else’s vigor is to see the hammer too so I guess they want less dodging. This is made even more a hindrance as we have traits both minor and major that reward depleted endurance.
Acro III is now goin to be 4s on heal? Wat is that like one dodge? (if end was empty)
It is hard to see how much the Critical Strikes 15 trait change will affect init regen during combat without actually play testing it. I see a definite boost to out of combat init regen however. I think this change will increase out of combat mobility for the thief: more heart seekers or shortbow 5 for travelling.
The cast time addition to sword 2 really bothers me, but that is another topic.
the patch actually seems like a good change for thiefs, im looking forward to the initiative gain being increased and this will benifit my 10 30 0 0 30 build in PVP.
The sword change may raise the skill cap of the sword set, however the buff to pistol whip could bring S/D back into play.
I just wish they would add some more condi clear for us
EDIT: Oh yeah the vigor nerfs are totally stupid and unnecessary not sure why they put that in.
The opportunist nerf, i feel this ruins what they are trying to accomplish by raising the initiative gain… again not sure why they did this

Look at it this way, if your using a cheese build on d/p I.e perma stealth or s/d evade spamming then you’ve been nerfed. Otherwise it’s a buff.

What if you were one of the people hanging on to D/D with 15 in acro? That vigor nerf is going to hit pretty hard. In fact it will hurt double S/D evade spam less than the builds they are trying to push (which is SOP when it comes to thief balance anyway.).

Actually no. Critical Infusion and the other “5s Vigor on crit, 5s cooldown” traits ARE NOT EVEN MENTIONED. So Mesmer, Guardian and Ele are still capable of permanent Vigor, with 5 trait points not including Renewing Stamina.

I do not understand the term being used by Anet as shaving. I mean are you talking 5 o’clock shadow or ZZ Top beard shaving??? Im leaning to the latter with this proposed update. If youre going to ruin thieves damage avoidance then provide another way to make them melee viable * Please *

PS: Hard to Catch (Acrobatics XI) is subject to the same issues as other shadowstep/teleport skills and is next to useless. Sorry for the bad news.
