I was in a hefty keep fight earlier on and the commander was calling out for someone to take out a siege weapon. I did and it was one of the few moments I actually felt like I was contributing to the overall zerg-fight.

Anyway, that sparked an idea for a new ability that might help give Thieves a more pronounced roll in large-scale PvP, without changing their play-style.

What if Thieves could temporarily disable siege weapons, either with a trap, a trait or anything? Maybe even something like “if you Steal a siege weapon you will disable it for 15 seconds”.

A potential upgrade for that might be the ability to sabotage a siege weapon, making it backfire on its user when fired next. So someone using a sabotaged Trebuchet might actually knock himself off and damage the siege weapon, including everyone around him.

This is just an idea I considered worth sharing.

That would be a great idea.
In a RvR gamestyle would be nice a real thief role.
Pity arena does’t care about roles..
Hope a dev reads this thread and gives us his opinion about that, also becouse steal should be something more then an utility

Well when you steal to an object like siege you get nothing, so it would be interesting if you stole from a siege weapon and got a stolen ability that could disable siege. Maybe even give it a utility against players as well so it wouldn’t be an ability you could only use on siege. Ground targeted disable siege for X amount of time would be a neat stolen ability from siege though.

It’s a great idea that the devs are never going to implement because this game is supposed to feature skills that a) do damage and b) are highly spammable.

Also would be neat if something like this would also add to stealing from engineer turrets and other objects like them. Could you imagine stealing from a turret and getting its activated ability? Or even getting an ability that disabled the turret, or maybe even both! Like stealing from a turret disables it for a second and gives you the activated ability as the stolen ability. Pesky supply crate, I steal your net and use it on your pesky engi master MUAHAHAHA. Ahem, may have gotten a bit carried away there.
At least it wouldn’t be like the annoying steal from engi’s themselves and how it reveals you, I mean I have gotten used to it for the most part and still put it to good use most the time but it’s still annoying. =P
